I deconverted through very similar thought processes. However my biggest breaking point was that being a bible literalist, and no longer being able to take the creation story (a very literal account) figuratively made it impossible for me to discern what was meant to be figurative and what was meant to be literal and basically destroyed the whole bible for me. And well without the bible, there isn't any christianity.

Is it possible that God leads people to atheism and deism because he doesn't want to be worshiped? And why does God need worship and prayer to do his "good works" anyway? I thought he was all powerful. Maybe God is far more humble "in spirit" then Religion says he is. Maybe that's because Religion is a reflection of Man's pride in himself. For if God holds pride a vice and humility a virtue, how could God demand so much admiration and praise?

i think if there is a god he just has a great sense of irony, his most devout fanatics have shown to be able to commit terrible crimes and are uncaring of humanity as a whole and its progress yet they will get to go to heaven
