At 4;46 it show's him installing the tread with Blatent disreguard for crowning. You should always try to keep the crown up to allow for natural water shed and to prolong the life of the product.. When you look at the end of a board, a "smile" is bad and a "frown" is good. Just remember to Frown Crown! Good luck
At 3:00 they should show how to set how to set the stair gauges properly. You can't just set them at say 7-1/8" and 11-1/4" ; you have to set the square on the board at the measurements you want then set the gauges on the square against the board.
hey i'm from New Zealand and i noticed that the bottom toe or kick board had been fastened to the posts, with the stringers near the ground fastened to the toe board with screws. I would have bolted a bearer to the posts then sat the stringers on top with z nails( wire dogs) connecting both together.
being a deck which which i a high foot traffic area where people entertain, drink on and have bbqz on top of i'd build the deck and the staircase a lot stronger.
The other thing which I found is dfferent height of left ad right stringer ( this affect only the very first riser). I highly reccomend to use AutoCad or simple paper and pencil before any piece of steel or timber will be cutted. Its easier to think twice and cut once then opposit way.
See my profile - stairs 12m long with 24 risers, all curved with change of direction at halflanding - and no supports in the middle !
That movie is fantastic. Its show very clear how to build simple stairs, and probably you wan't be wrong doing stairs this way. Just one comment regarding measuring techniqe. Ground not very often will be level and if you take a measurements in 1m distance from your deck and your stairs will be long and will start 2m from the deck ground level can fall 2-4 inches. Than your stairs will be missing those 4 inches. What you can do is you can measure depth in approx position where your stairs start.
guess he decided to add the nosing to the stairs after, forgot to mention the minimum allowable depth of 31/2 inches if you are cutting out stringers.....and what about the math where the posts should be in relation to the main deck.......I can see ppl waisting alot of expnsive 2x12......lol

Very good video. The home depot ones pale in comparison. I am a pretty good DIY, but never built a deck before... so it was useful for me.

i hate when they have an extra top tread. its unnecessary to have a tread protrude off the deck like that.

@kiddhitta that makes it difficult to install railing also when done that way, not only that, but it looks wrong.

This guy is the same guy who explains the Retroencabulator. Look that up on YouTube--it's hilarious.
