Hey Steve Green hope you get this....I'm the bartender from Philly(many moons ago...1989 ) that everyone called white girl. Recognized you the moment you asked for a drink. You were blown out that a white chick not only had the album but knew who the hell you were. If you perform in ATL drop me a line..cielopezzo@yahoo.com
This is definitely such a Philly song. I was crazy about this song. I don't know the last time I heard it. I got it on a raggedy cassette somewhere back when I used to tape songs from the radio, and hope the announcer is quiet until the record is over. LOL @ myself!
I saw them last weekend at the West Oak Lane Jazz festival...Brought back a lot of great memories..But the real sad thing is that right now "Breakwater" is the best funk band in the city....After 30 years you would think some young cats would claom that title..too much sampled I bet...
Wow! I This is simply awesome! I love Breakwater, I had forgotten how sexy the album cover is. I just called in my sweetie to check it out. I converted the cassette tape to a CD. I always wondered why they never made it big? Anyway thank you!
gotta be the best funk/soul band never to make it big..... "Work it out" is still my favourite though. bought it on 12" ( back in the day ) one of the few that never gets put away.
Gotta respect sample artists too. Some debate that sample artists have no creative ability. But without the method and style of sampling being developed in Hip Hop there wouldn't be as many younger people getting into and having a divine respect for this kind of music.
@linkmasta114 I guess you wouldn't never find these type of groups if you never come out that square box you been living in right? thank god for the internet these days son all you've to do is type in the word...70's-80's classic Funk and hey you're there don't be an idiot all your life...omg
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@linkmasta114 They did make it! And I as well made it here without any listening of Daft Punk. Since you are a open GAY because you like "Daft Punk" I will let it slide this time. Anybody who can openly express his of her flaws has guts!!! I actually like you now!! Nah just kiddin. Faggit!
very ahead of it's time, seems it doesn't belong to 1978, I can tell 1981-82. we can call it the very first 80s groove ever recorded in funk/soul history!
If any one would like to buy the LP... hehehehe, it would be here in Switzerland..... but I don't sell it.... I not am stupid.... nononono..... es mucho bueno....hahahahahaha
This reminds me when I was just a wee little elementary student living in Northern California..San Jose/Palo Alto area to be exact...Some of the best days of my life! My mother use to play this LP (that's record for you young bucks) OVER AND OVER AGAIN! I love this group!
I had a group call Supreme Force played after breakwater torn down a club on Ridge ave. we came in the next week and still kept the funk going. lol lol. Can't think of the name, but had hotel rooms you can stay in.
veewee, you done done it again.....i havent heard this song since my mama played it on record player when i was a kid growing up in chi---99th & state...holla
Reminds me of training at Frazier's gym in North Philly with heavyweight, Jimmy Young. Who loved Breakwater! RIP Jimmy! He really loved this song, and "You Know I Love You"
This Group vanished much too quickly. I will never forget that unique voice Gene Robinson had. Tried to mimick him many times while singing all the great Breakwater songs.....never worked lol.
Thanks for the info parkridgegdr. Any more information as to where and when would be appreciated. That is good news. What a band they were !!...........mrblue
This group was a sleeper. I think the boys from EWF (earth wind fire) produced them. But this album is solid rythm, funkified soul and liquid lyrics....the whole damn thing is tight.
