Congrats! You're a great composer....unlike me who barely passed counterpoint! Counterpoint is VERY difficult! I'm just interested...how long does it take to write a piece like this and how do you figure out the time signature?
I really enjoyed this. It captures the feeling of a fugue, which is a notoriously difficult style to master. We're all students when we experiment with the form, and very few can claim to master it. So don't be hard on yourself. Be pleased with what you've chieved. Well done!
Thank you! Yes, fugal technique is definately an acquired skill. The great thing about writing fugues is the journey you sometimes have to take through keys you don't normally compose in. It can be like learning a new language in a different country. I appreciate your compliments.
Hey, thanks for the comment! Believe me, I'm the first to criticise my work, and this fugue has several weak points...particularly in development. I suppose I could spend another day or so ironing them out, but I've already lost interest and want to move on. I think you can only do so much with this type of theme before the sequences become wearisome and redundant :)
Well, I can set a harpsichord soundfont to play it on midi if you'd like. I'm not a very good keyboardist, and a composition like this is far beyond my capabilities. Someone else would have to record it if you wanted to hear it live. Thanks for the comment.

Hi,i am looking for a fugue speciallist to tell me what is that chromatic fugue:

I found it as notes and then i made it with a music notation program

You're too good. What's the best way to master counterpoint? I've been teaching myself. Would a college course do any good?

I play intermediate-level classical guitar, and a smattering of piano.

OK, just to know :)
(Because your keyboard compositions are quite demanding sometimes)

It took about 8 hours to write this, in the course of two days. The time signature came automatically; the theme dictated the time.

Wow awesome.
Could I ask what your writing process is like? Do you write one line at a time or write all voices at once?
twiddle7125 3 years ago
I compose vertically, meaning all the voices at once, measure by measure. Thanks for your interest in my music and I appreciate the kind comment!

Paul, you definitely have talent in writing in the Baroque spirit, and fugues require some real skill. I enjoyed this fugue.
If playing for a King in times past, they would have enjoyed it too.
I'm sure some would have a few critiques of it, but I'll leave that for the experts. =P =D
