  • Thanks a lot for the video. I totally should pay more attention to these kind of thing ^^

  • Nice, but I don't agree with them being rivals... I believe the verbal distance they keep is more to *emphasise* they're special to each other (might seem like an oxymoron, but it isn't^^ )

  • @AcenPhina I agree completely, I've always felt that their remaining formalities showed a special level of respect for one another, not a rivalry. Even at the final battle Ken still calls Daisuke "Motomiya-kun" while he calls everyone else by their personal names. It's because he respects Daisuke the most that he never lowers their formality, and vice versa. At least, this is how I always saw it.

  • @TrippNessa Which, in turn, is interesting because everyone else seems to kinda look down on Daisuke, but Ken never does that ^^

(Especially obvious in that scene after they return from that 'world tour' around christmas; Daisuke says something 'good for a change', as Taichi remarks, and while all the others look astonished, Ken just smiles ^^ Yay, DaiKen ftw xD )

  • @AcenPhina I once read this theory on Daisuke having an inferiority complex, so I tried re-watching a bunch of the show to see if it was true... and it totally is. It only starts to go away after he meets Ken too. He just needed someone to treat him like he wasn't stupid is all, I mean even his own parents called him dumb RIGHT in front of his best friend... gosh... and Daiken is my OTP ^_^

  • @TrippNessa Yeah, I deleted my comment because it was reeally long (stretched over three comments ó_o ) and didn't say anything of importance ^^ Basically it just said that you're right for the most part, however, I think assigning him something as grave as an 'inferiority complex' would add a tragedy to his character that isn't there. So I'd rather stick to 'minor difficulties with self-esteem' xD

Ah yes, and then I said I already knew you're a DaiKen fan because I'm Arciam from livejournal ^^

  • @AcenPhina Haha, he for sure has issues with self esteem. And that's awesome, I totally didn't know it was you. Then again, I've always used the same online name since I first started using the internet like... 8 years ago lol.

  • what i just realized after seeing this: why is ken called digimo kaiser in other languages too? after all it's a german title

  • Seeing the transitions between these two was just so sweet. I'm very glad you posted this.

  • . . . i still don't get it

  • Thanks for this! I know textbook-wise what the various honourifics signify but I still don't appreciate the subtulties in practice.

    Great video.

  • I LOVE the bond Davis/Daisuke and Ken have. It's just so sweet and dynamic. I love it. ^^

  • Ah! Ick... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to give only one star... It's just way too close to the play button... |3;;; Either way, I'll try to vote 5 stars to make up for it? It's really good... Really clean and informative.

  • KEN! KEN! KEN! ICHIJOUJI KEN!

That made me laugh so hard.

  • pshtttt how could you leave out the EPIC truck scene!?! hahaha.

    this was definitely interesting, though.

  • what is this EPIC truck scene you speak of?

  • @noboxoffice

The scene where Ken is taken away by Oikawa and Daisuke (with v-mon and wormmon) runs after the speeding truck calling after it and demanding they bring Ken back (though I think he refers to him as Ichijouji in that scene) until he trips and falls to the street. And the scene in the truck when Oikawa harvests the seed from Ken's neck and he calls out for Motomiya and wormmon, in that order.

Both are pretty epic, especially for a DaiKen shipper.

    ~

  • @sanityisrelative for a shipper, that does seem pretty epic. Thanks! He seriously called out for Motomiya first? Wow. *tries to find it*

  • @noboxoffice

Near the end of the first half of episode 44. Enjoy. XD

  • This proves once again you can learn somethings about Japanese language from anime

of course you can't depend on it else you'd sound like an Idiot XD

  • I like "kun" the most as a Japanese honorific. It's usually used to address guys, and it just sounds cool.

  • That was a nice little lesson in conversational Japanese...^_^ Cool.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. :D

  • Hmm...Ken called Daisuke "Motomiya" in the end, but when Miyako showed up, he called her "Miyako-san." He also called Hikari "Hikari-san," and Iori "Iori-kun." Hehe, he didn't even recognize Takeru.

    Very informative, though. :D

  • Wow, this was so cool :) Thanks for making this! :D

  • Not at all! I'm glad you liked it.

  • 3:13 = THE sweetest Daisuke line ever. *_*

But anyways, this really was fascinating to watch, thanks for bringing my semi-back into the fandom. I still remember how excited I was the first time I actually noticed Dai calling Ken by his first name. It wasn't the episode you showed here, it was waaaay after this, when Ken was kidnapped or whatever and Dai runs after the car screaming Ken's name. That scene is <3! XD

Anyways, thanks for making this~~! ^_^ *faves*

  • I'm sorry; this reply is so so late! But I'm glad you liked the vid, and thanks for the long comment.

I know, I was grinning like a nutcase at the whole truck scene. I made the vid after feeling a resurgence of love for Ken/Daisuke, which mainly came with downloading and watching the raws of 02. I miss the fandom so much. XD

  • lolz, actually I must thank you for replying so late. I rewatched your video, and I now feel some of the love I once had for Daisuke x Ken. ^^ They really are cute together, aren't they? Thanks for reminding me of my first shounen-ai love. x3

  • This is really fascinating. And hey, clips from episodes I haven't seen yet! (Ever notice how all the subs seem to stop at episode 13?)

  • Thanks! This vid was totally indulgent, and therefore, incredibly fun to make. *g*

(Maybe it's because the series hasn't been subbed very far, yet?)

  • WPP (Wolf Pack Productions) are the ones that are subbing it. They are infamous for taking forever with their subs. Largely because they have a habit of subbing more projects than they can handle at once.

I'm very grateful that they are subbing it at all though.
