  • O and I got total recall

  • I got one of the vcd card and it is the sega brand and got it for $20

  • you sound like Jack Black...kinda

  • Im selling a JVC RG-VC20 Video Card for Saturn if anyone is interested. Send me a message.

  • @timotim27 yes email asap ramonz1993@hotmail.com thanks

  • SEGA!

  • Great video, Very informative. I feel the same way regarding a Saturn region switch mod, I've done a few in other systems, but there is just no reason since I have the Action Replay cart. Besides, my soldering skills are definitely still at a novice level, but getting better.

  • that thing on the back where you're putting the card is called an "Address Bus"...if you can recall, the Sega Genesis had one too, that's where the Sega CD console expansion plugged into the side of the Genesis....& on MY genesis, I had a Classic Genesis console, & also 32X....I expanded my Genesis to the MAX & it was AWESOME...but unfortunately, the Sega Saturn came out...and then the Sony Playstation 1 (Originally, PS1 was Nintendo's SNES-CD expansion, but Nintendo's plans w/ Sony & got FUBAR)

  • @IMaDEM0N [as a follow-up] ....Or So-I'm-Told by a BIG-TIME Nintendo Pro friend of mine.

  • @IMaDEM0N That's true. There are pictures of the Nintendo Playstation out there. Not sure if it's just concept art or actual prototype hardware but there are pictures out there.

  • thye sega saturn was the best every i so would kill for one can u please steer me in the derection were to buy one please buddy and oh great review never gets old

  • cool stuff!!!!

  • Is that guy at 12:02 Turk from Scrubs?

  • @BigScorpy He most certainly is.

  • Victor branded? So that means they were made by JVC?

  • @aeneasfate Yes sir.

  • I'm thinking of getting one of these cards but I see there are ones made by Sega and ones made by Victor. What are the differences?

Also, some Japanese Saturn games will have better video quality with a vcd card installed. Are these Victor cards compatible with those games?

  • @ArmaliteFan I believe on Gamefaqs in the Saturn section there's an FAQ about the Mpeg cards. Basically the one I got in the box only plays VCDS and the other more beat up one plays VCDS and lets you view photo CDs.

It's only a handfull of games that had enhanced video capabilities so it's really not worth it to pick one of these cards up unless you get a great deal or just really love your Saturn and want all the bells n whistles.

  • I do love soddering.

  • I have a 3DO VCD card to exchange for a Sega Satrun VCD , if anyone is interested? interesting vid BTW dude!

  • very nice video jerry, I think I may have to check out your channel and see if you have more videos that are up my alley. I do enjoy MN's videos so maybe you have similar stuff. great though to have some info on the vcd cards.

  • fantastic video. thank you.

  • Man Japan gets all the cool stuff

  • @austgyu Everyone started somewhere! People love shit from Japan...especially us video game nerds.

  • Sweet. I've been waiting for you to show this! I didn't know about the picking left and right audio for different languages. Sucks being in mono but what else could they do with such limits. Well I guess it doesn't matter for English releases over here. I guess there were a fair amount of VCD's over here in the mid 90's. Clueless. Wow whatever happened to Alicia Silverstone? Yeah it doesn't look bad at all. I used to burn VCD's of TV episodes to play on my DC before I had a DVD burner.

  • @MN12BIRD Yeah man everyones career was hurt by that Batman movie. I think that's the last time anyone gave a shit about Alicia Silverstone. now I've got one more obscure Video format to collect! NEAT!

  • I think it's cool to get this kind of stuff. MN12BIRD recently uploaded a video of when he went to the Pacific Mall. There, he saw a VCD copy of Lord of the Rings.

Also. the first version of Playstation in Japan supported VCD. But they soon dropped support to cut costs

  • @brtshstel Ok based on this comment I've done some digging and you're partially right. There is a PS1 that officially supports Video CD. There's a PS1 that was only released in China where VCD was super popular. The SCPH-5903 in the back right hand corner next to the CD lids hinge it'll say Video CD and it's all white.

All other ps1s with the parallel port can play VCDs with one of those plug in cheat devices but I hear it looks like balls.

  • @austgyu Please do a video! I'd have a hard time deciding what to bring back...I'd want to take it all!

  • Whoops, I meant China over Japan, but I still think Japan had a market too :)

  • I never knew about this, but it makes sense since Japan actually had a market for Video CD before DVD exploded :)

  • @TheAtariJunkie Japan is all about the add ons. The Saturn actually had an LCD screen and GPS unit for Japan. You had to have the parking break on to enter any info into the GPS software...pretty fucking crazy huh? The Saturn really did it all.

  • @austgyu Yeah no problem man. I use this in my argument about the Saturn being the best console that gen...because it does everything a modern console does. Games, music, movies, online play, web browsing, and a motherfucking GPS. You could navigate the shit outta Japan in 1997 with a Saturn.

  • Thanks for the great vid! I always wanted to see that in action.

  • this is nice but i don't really see much use doing it over here since they really didn't sell vcd here. wouldn't it have been easier to burn a vcd to test then buy one? i know it isn't really that hard to burn one. guess the dreamcast vcd is around this quality too. i can't believe you actually watched that whole movie.

  • @james42519 It was $2 for the VCD and took 2 seconds to click buy on ebay. Downloading a video, downloading some software to burn a VCD and burning it would have taken WAY more effort than going to ebay and buying one up. Plus I think it's cool to have a retail VCD.

  • @JerryTerrifying oh ok. wasn't that much money. guess it is nice to have a real vcd.

  • cheers bro awesome stuff i have heard of these but have never seen one or even seen it in action very cool might have to hunt one down as i am a huge fan of my Saturn still play the shit out of it to this day cheers bro huge thumbs up talk to you soon cya on the 333 floor of the terror dome cya

  • I had totally forgat that Paul Rudd and Black Scrubs were in Clueless.....a 90's classic. Fucking THUMBS UP The Ass!

  • @DeathAdder83 Great fuckin movie. :D

  • omg, for a minute there, i was watching clueless and forgot i was watching a video about saturn vcds.

  • @spturner360 LOL. Sweet. What'd you think of that video quality? Not to shabby?

  • You should do a review of Clueless for your next video.

  • @icemansquared LOL. Maybe I will.

  • There are advertisements for the video cd with english on the card itself in loads of pal games it was released over here too, you see them every now and then on Ebay although they are pretty expensive.

  • @mjdoomreviews Yeah the first one I bought I paid out the dick for but the second and better one I just snagged I saw on ebay for $20 or best offer and I offered $17 for it and he accepted the offer. Pretty lucky. And it was already in the States so it only took a few days to get here.

  • This was very interesting I might check this out

  • Great vid. This actually reminded me that I have a bunch of CD-i VCDs that I got from Goodwill for about $2 each a couple years ago. I tried them out once and then completely forgot I had them lol.

  • @Croooow111 Awesome man. Ive never seen a VCD in the wild...but I've never really looked either. I wouldn't mind having a few more.

  • those crazy japanese and their little add-ons

  • The Goldstar 3DO you can get the MPEG card not the Panasonic models.

  • @mp4podcastDOTcom I know in other regions the panasonic 3do's do have VCD cards. At least I saw some forum posts about a guy with a PAL VCD card for both the Fz1 and Fz10...but shit you never know he could be a dip shit.

  • Cool video Jerry.I love the VCD Format which in alot of aspects are underrated.Use to use this format with my Dreamcast before i had gotten a dvd burner and player.

  • @JayyBlackheart That's really cool...I didn't know the Dreamcast could play VCDs. Hell before 2 years ago I didn't know VCD existed.

  • i found it interesting that u could put the same amount of video as u could audio on a cd,, its surprising as there's just so much more info on a video than audio aye

  • @strictlysega Yeah I thought that was interesting too. Because on top of the 60 minutes of very decent video it has 60 minutes of stereo audio to go with it.

  • Nifty little item, never seen the card before. Great video on it man!

You know, I just realized that my VCD's probably have Dutch subs pasted all over them lol. Totally forgot about that. I personally never cared for the format myself, VHS was fine for me and later I just went over to DVD.

  • @HalfBlindGamer I probably would have wanted VCDs if I had known about them lol. Same with Laserdisc I was never really aware of them. VHS worked just fine for my family too. But I just had to have these VCD cards just because I'm retarded for the Saturn.

  • Very informative. I did not even know the saturn could do this. Now I knew the dreamcast had this capability, but not the saturn.

    Again, great video!

  • @AxeBlack84 I was in the exact opposite position! I knew the Saturn could but didn't know the Dreamcast till the comments came rolling in on this video. :D youtube comments are awesome...you're always happening across new info.

  • I'd still be clueless on how the VCD card if it wernt for this video.

  • @retromanpresents LOL I see what you did there.

  • I used to make VCDs all the time back when blank DVD discs were super expensive still. Of course having them now is pretty pointless. Cool video man.

  • @sinistermoon same here...

  • @sinistermoon Definitely...but I'm the type of dude that just likes to sample every little tidbit of technology I happen across. I was totally ignorant about VCDs untill a few years ago when I discovered the Saturn's VCD card.

  • Nice explaination dude, I'm gonna go get a VCD card for my Goldstar 3DO I think there was only 1 VCD card made for the 3DO and it was for Goldstar only, but I could be wrong...

  • There is a PS1 that can play VCDs

  • @xan1242 I believe you had to use a Gameshark or some simmilar cheat device to play them. This gizmo was offical. Or was VCD playback on the Ps1 officially supported? I'd like to know more!

  • Looks like a movie that the NC would review :D

  • @Bakemon13 LOL this movies great.

  • cool stuff man, haven't seen one of these yet.

  • What does it mean when a cd can hold 60 min. of video? Doesn't this depend on the video quality? I never understood what they meant by saying a cd can hold xx minutes of audio or xx minutes of video.

Is there like a standard resolution or sound quality to measure how many minutes of content can fit on a cd?

  • @RottenRroses I guess you can compress the video you could fit more video on there. Get on wikipedia and look up VCD, there's other formats like Super Video CD and one other that crams more video on each disc.

I'm guessing the 60 minutes is just the standard. Laserdisc is analog so it's always 60 minutes max on one side. I could be wrong n shit though.

  • @JerryTerrifying the thing in those minutes is that first one cd can store 700 mega of data or about 70-80 minutes of content; It means that if you save files the limit is 700 mega and if you burn an audio cd or vcd the limit is 70-80 minutes no matter the quality/compression used. For example, one cd can store about 200 mp3 files in data mode but about 15 songs if its an audio cd. Its different if its dvd-video as basically its pure data, so compression works very well

  • @RottenRroses if you go to doom9 or afterdawn forums you'll find more answers than your head can take... there's even such a format as XSCVD/XVCD which implements cd overburning. But generally it's whichever comes first... the size limit or the time limit... as for why.. you'll have to do some searching.

  • @RottenRroses VCD doesnt hold 60 mins of video,it goes by Data which is based off of the size of the file.So if you're using a Cd-R which are 700mb each then your average 60 min movie would be divided onto 2 diffrent cd thus going by Mpeg1 Video.Hope this helps.
