As a baby boomer myself, I recall the same senario when I was that age; I wanted my job to define me, etc. The truth is, I was forchunate to do all of those different jobs to define me, but guess what, I still wasn't happy. Happiness and contentment come from within, I finally learned how to go within, find peace, and be satisfied and content and even GRATEFUL for a mediocre mundane job, because it's the GIVING in life that truly sets your soul free. Meditation is the new generation.
Yeah. Not all Gen Yers are like this at all. I mean, growing up my friends and I were taught how to work hard, to be grateful for what we have, to care for others, to respect our elders and superiors as well as peers, to use our heads, and to work as a team. Although there are people who fit the stereotype, it is unfair to put those who don't fit it in the same group of those who do. It's a specific type of bias; an widely-practiced discrimination called ageism, and it must stop.
As a PROUD representative of Gen Y, I can wholeheartedly say that I've accomplished more than many who are in other generations AND that I have also accomplished more than what Boomers and etc. did when they were at MY age. That is why I feel entitlement to vacations after 2 months of work. My results and accolade speak for themselves, not an ego. You all are on YouTube posting these comments, but yet, Gen. Y is the one who got YouTube up-and-running and popular (for recreation and business) DUH
Wrong ! Gen X created the internet and all the websites like Facebook,Youtube,Myspace,Napster, etc and all the other websites your generation can't live without.
@DaTrueShadowlein Hang on.. lol You have accomplished things academically but you were able to do this because Generations before you that busted their arses so what you haven't accomplished is a sense of respect for those other Generations. Life does not stand still so you can go on a vacation due to your accomplishments, it doesn't work that way. And YouTube??? Oh for fuck sake, something is new and its automatically a Gen Y developer that put it all together??
@DaTrueShadowlein Baby Boomers & Gen X's are STILL the guts of Internet, hardware and software development, so you mention YouTube which is simply a website that hosts video's and nothing more! Yes its popular but nothing that is overly technical. Computing before the 00's or even the 90's was far more complex and diverse which resulted in some the greatest developers whilst you were in your fathers ball bag or sucking your mothers tit. Gen Y has done literally NOTHING yet!!!
@blade004 We haven't done anything but had the 1st black president instead of burning down our own communities in riots? We had found better things to do as teens instead of shooting up our HS? Really? What makes the 90's so fucking special? WDF?
@PhreShPimpCeSS What makes you think that having a black president has anything to do with Generation Y? Every generation voted and everyone in my age group over here were wanting Obama to win so unless you have statistics i would presume you are just pissing in the wind. And what the hell is HS? What makes the 90's so special? I was born in the 70's dumb dumb, i mentioned the 90's in my comment but i wasn't solely focused upon that.
@blade004 & Having a black president sure does have to do with Generation Y the same way people born in the 70's including my parents went threw the Regan Era as teens. We're going threw the Obama Era. It's our youth who is raised off of Obama. That's the only good thing that came from Generation X, It's funny how Baby Boomers and Generation X come at us yet are the same ones who raised us.....
@PhreShPimpCeSS Gen Y has hardly been a shit stain in time to take ALL the credit for Obama becoming president. YES there are good things about Gen Y but for you to sit their in all your cocky smugness and claim that Gen X gave you NOTHING is pissing in the hands of progress. Things don't just come to be, history, attitudes, experience from social injustice and political unrest are a knock on effect that we all learn from generation to generation. Gen Y respect NOTHING but themselves.
@PhreShPimpCeSS And you say "its funny how Baby Boomers and Generation X come at us". So did you ever sit and ask the question WHY?? They raised you and didn't like the outcome and its plain to see! But like i said, not all of Gen Y is negative, but you just have real fucked up attitude towards others.
@PhreShPimpCeSS Actually, please don't bother responding, you make me sick and disgusted!! You need someone to dump you in a 3rd world nation and get a dose of harsh reality! Away from thinking you are the greatest generation to ever live instead of becoming the greatest generation that just took and never gave back!
@blade004 Never said this was the greatest generation, I'm stating facts. This generation is NO different then the others but I do believe the others had better entertainment just not world wise, Just beause its was "80's and 90's" in the time era doesn't mean its any special in the world.
@PhreShPimpCeSS No you are not stating facts you are stating an opinion, an opinion not based any experience with those times you reference and within that you only believe what you want to believe. And no i not trying to say that the 80's and 90's were special, the word "special" was what you used initially to describe that time but it was a time of even more gradual change which then led onto Gen Y and human life will continue to evolve and progress as we build upon the previous generations.
@PhreShPimpCeSS Do you honestly think you are going to agree or believe in future generations wholeheartedly when you are 40 years old or older? You are going to find things that do deserve criticism and that is what Gen Y cannot handle "criticism". The time line before the next generation is extremely thin and very soon you will be one telling the next generations where they are going wrong, i can guarantee it!
@blade004 I can take criticism it's the simple fact y'all throw stupid facts at us that been around for years. Ex. Teenage pregnancy, I like how half of my generation X were teen parents but it's done today and all of a sudden it's a problem now? WDF? Of course, People will dislike the generation after them but it makes them NO different then the one before them!
@blade004 but they'll still be part and parcel of us, they use the net like its an extension of their body. we cant say the same for our moms and dads. we are the generation that will eliminate political stalemating because we have become fed up with so much idealism. I vote on the issues and not blindly for a party. the latter'd get this country nowhere in a hurry. our children should be cut from the same cloth. Just think of the engineers Z will pork out. I'm an engineering student (23).
@blade004 When you were a kid I bet you did not take criticism of your generation that well either. I am frankly tired of people arm chair quarterbacking Gen Y. We have a different view on the world. So what? We do not give ourselves to our jobs unless we enjoy them. I feel just fine being apart of a generation that is more educated, more skeptical of authority , and cares more about life and happiness. After all is it not happiness that we were put on this planet for.
@PhreShPimpCeSS Don't worry about him. He is just trying to get you in a argument because he can. Every generation thinks they are the greatest. I know you did not say that. Don't let people on Youtube go after you. I find they are not open minded. Thanks for sticking up for us instead of bringing us down like so many people in Gen X has.
@blade004 You have a lot of hostility issues. Who said Gen X parents are upset. They raised a bunch of intelligent people that is going to change everything. Is that why you don't like us. You don't like the idea of some twenty-two year old challenging the norm of how your business does things. Blame upper management not us. We have a lot of problems to deal with and we are going to fix them by throwing out old inefficient infrastructure.
@PhreShPimpCeSS You asked me what makes the 90's so fucking special yet you cite on your channel your favoured music is from the 80's and 90's and New Jack City is a favourite of yours also? You seem to have answered your own question to some degree yes?
@blade004 First, of all I'm not talking music wise I'm talking work wise and world wise of course 90's and 80's win when we talk MUSIC! I'm talking about world issues, Today's issues is technology and the 90's issues was pure racism. Don't sugar coat the BS. It's easy to point out the flaws of the current era and praise the previous one.
@PhreShPimpCeSS This is why Gen X dislike Gen Y, you are absolutely full of yourselves and are an absolute hypocrite when you say "Its easy to point out the flaws of the current era and praise the previous one", because all you are saying back about Gen X is the same but instead it reads "its easy to point out the flaws of the previous era and praise the current one". Racism was not exclusive to GenX!
@PhreShPimpCeSS Gen X wanted to bring about change!, we were critical of society in its previous form and were against many injustices, it was the generations before that brought about racism and we were the ones letting it be known and many a time through the music of that time but does music of Gen Y try to set about doing today!? All about "you", what "you" want, you are materialistic and unrealistic and living off the spoils of change brought upon by Gen X.
@blade004 River Phoenix's death has ruined gen x.....i was 19 when River died and im still not over my teen idol, so how is anyone of that generation supposed to do anything with their life.....the teen idol we grew up with died of drugs od at 23......so that gave us the idea we could do that too!
@PhreShPimpCeSS And what a completely fucked up comment to make "Today's issues are technology" ?????? WTF!!! Families in North Korea trying to flee across the border into South Korea or China and getting murdered if caught is not an issue, the Sichuan Earthquake of 2008 is not an issue, the floods in Pakistan is not an issue!??, oh NO!! a world issue is technology!!! which mind you a good majority today's software and hardware were produced and engineered by Gen X!
@PhreShPimpCeSS river phoenix has RUINED gen x....gen x decided to just throw life away when River Phoenix died, his death fucked up a generation, cuz he showed us teen idol fans of his that its ok to do drugs and od at 23 like him.....so they really didnt plan to 'move on'....and theyre still living off parents or dead hahaha
I can do the same amount of work 3 of these fuckers can do. I once worked five years without a vacation before. three of fourweeks of vacation. What do these little bitches think this is fucking Europe?
Lindsay Lohan is your hero? Well, I will look past the fact that she is an untalented skank-hack, but she is not a millionaire because she wished herself into being but she made it big in entertainment. Quit bitching and crying and expecting hurt feelings to propel you to wealth by age 30. I am ashamed to be 23 years old.
As a Gen Yer, I think the sense of entitlement comes from the fact that so much information has been available to us, moreso than in past generations. Just wait until Japan comes and fucks these kids up the ass. It's going to be a fucking riot.
well these kids have no idea how fortunate they are to work at a place where most of their coworkers are the same age as they are. here in oregon young professionals are nearly non-existent. i've worked at a few colleges and i would say 90% of employees are over 35. as i approach the end of my 20's, i realize that i've never had a chance to work with my peers. and the older generations do nothing to accomodate young workers i have no idea what they are talking about.
@oregonflatland I kind of like how our generations ass is kind of getting kissed, were scared as hell and we need a bit of handholding.
