  • omg great tone dude!

  • forget the mic stand, that tone was fantastic...

  • awesome tone!

  • where can we listen to the full performance :) ?

  • @onkelbolle in that case.... can have your trombone? Haha

  • do you have the full performance ? it would be very very nice if u could upload it

  • @onkelbolle this comment deserves a '?' (i dont play anymore??? you answered yourself your own question????) with a 'thats bullshit' too (my teacher took my spirit away...)

  • @onkelbolle but your amazing you cant stop! Play trombone! you can do it! LONG LIVE THE BONE!

  • wooooooow

  • Nice mic stand ;-)

  • dang, nice playing man =)

  • Hey man how long does it take to get that good? i'm 17 and have been playing for 5 years and i'm hoping to get that kind of tone.

  • @onkelbolle I know how that is... I switched high schools my freshman year, and I was good enough to make first band, second chair beating out mostly everyone. I was despised for that, and after the biggest competition of the year, the band directors just kicked me out. They asked me if I wanted back in towards the end of the year, but I had just had it with them by that point. (It wasn't the first thing they had done to me)

  • Wow that was sexy haha and totally 100x better than the singer

  • not you playing...

  • @ld357 Nope, it´s playback. I recorded a MIDI-trombone before the show and just faked it :)

  • @onkelbolle HAHAHA, I got the sacarsm.

  • I really enjoy this SOLO !! GREAT!! can you post more...?

  • Obrigado!!!

  • @sandrotbne: solo improvisado :)

  • Very nice! Please upload more . . . .

  • Literally, I never have heard a trombone player that good. Awesome!!

  • Wonderful solo.

  • Perfeitoo ! Lindo solo !

  • I love the note control

  • great solo! ending is perfect, you nailed it man. what note did you end on? E two octaves above staff?

  • Do u reckon u could write that solo out 4 me on paper please? cuz i so wana play it !!! even when i know the key i cant do it ! LOL still luvin it btw

  • Hey buddy, coming from one musician to another, you should definitely figure and write out the solo yourself. It'll help you listen more closely to music, and you will learn the song a lot better, and you will start developing that skill so you can write out stuff a lot quicker. Its a really great skill to have for aspiring musicians!

  • goosebumps. nicely done!

  • hey what key is it writen in?

bloody amazing mate ive listened to it like 10 times and still luvin it !

  • Thank you!!! :) Playin in E-minor.

  • hey again! lol would it be possible for you to qrite it out on sheet music for me cuz Id love to play it on trombone but i no good at improv atm :( will get better tho i HOPE . THANKS STILL LISTENIGN TO IT :L

  • what key was this written in?

  • Cool solo!

  • Great Solo. Better Mic Stand :D

  • Next time, bring your own wireless mic. It's kind of undignified to use a singer as a mic stand, not to mention not including her performance in this video.

  • true

  • I think she´s a pretty nice mic stand ;)

  • Very nice

  • @onkelbolle yeah but what is she doing out of the kitchen

  • ummm....deal?

  • really nice

  • wow idk how many times i have listened to this solo and i still cant get enough of it. fantastic my man, just fantastic

  • heaii me again onkel just to say i tried your techniques and advice on lip trills and hay i cracked the basics - not quite up to bret baker standard though ^^

  • that was incredible! and to get what was a top top g? on the lever trombone WOW!

might i ask how you do lip trills on the trombone? because i seem to suck at the trills :/

  • Hi and thank you for a nice comment :) Well, I have never practiced trills.... (infact I don´t play trombone anymore) but I can still do the trills. The way I see it the trills starts with alot of support in your stomach, alot of breath and at the end the lips. I would like to call it stomach trills, because you will never be able to do a trill without the support. Sit og stand correctly! Number 1 tip :)

  • why did you stop playing trombone?

  • Yeeaaah, seriously!

  • @tromboneskickbehind - practice. lots of practice. I play Bass Trombone and have a higher range than most tenor players do.

  • @tromboneskickbehind That was an E-flat

  • U have great tone! U wanna tell me your secret?

  • Hehe, thank you :) Play with your soul, not with your mind... maybe? cheers

  • nordlandsbunad?:D

  • Gode sjanser for det :)

  • WOW this solo is amazing... very nice job!

  • what size moutpiece do you use?

  • dude, to be honest i don´t have a clue... it´s a dennis wick... 6bl maybe? Don´t know... i stole it from my teacher when I was 12 :) He knows about it now!

  • what size mouthpiece do you use?

  • dude i saw this and i cant get my trombone to sound like that ive tried for a month

  • i need the f Attachment iv peen playing for 3 years my trombone has a hole in it so...

  • You're amazing! I've been playing trombone for about seven years now, and I got a new one with an F Attachment about 3 years into playing.

  • Do you find it nessecary to continue playing trombone with a student level after 4 years or switch to a trigger.

  • Can you rephrase that question? :) Didn´t quite understand it, neither did my american wife :)

  • I have played trombone for 4 years. Do you think I should get a new trombone?

  • Eeehh hehe :) If you´re not happy with the one you got now, you probably should consider buying a new one if you enjoy playing the trombone, and are planning to play it for the years to come. I´ve switched back to a horn with no trigger because I don´t do classical music anymore...

  • If you want to move onto bigger things, or just want a better sound, then you should certainly go for a larger bore and trigger. The trigger is especially useful, since it means that C and B positions are less likely to scupper smooth performance.

  • que som sinfonico lindo parabéns .

  • Obrigado! Aprecio seus comentários! :)

  • That was funky... I mean that in a good way.

  • omg, that was beautiful

  • I've played trombone for 4 years now. I play solos similar to that. Nice job. Great control on your notes.

  • Meraviglioso!

  • Grazie, signore!

  • mmmmm

  • i can do that ;D played trombone for 2-3 years =P

  • my trombone teacher is that good

  • amazing ur an inspiration to me

  • dude nice solo im only a bigginer

  • simply amazing.

  • wow great solo! are there any more videos with this guy playing?

  • That was beautiful. No complaints. :D

I'm an aspiring trombone player, I really liked your solo. :)

  • nice man i hope i could be as good as u 1 day!

  • holy cow. that is awesome. amazing tone, amazing slide and mouth vibrato. awesome tuning above the staff. whew.

  • well played

  • Un jour je serai aussi bon... mais il y a encore du boulot!!!

  • Vous serez aussi bien que moi, bien sûr:) Il suffit de pratique, de jouer sans fiche note, apprenez les schales et amusez-vous!

  • why in B.....why...

  • Hmmm, E minor? :)

  • lol my bad my bad. but B's the fifth at least that explains the mistake. it'll be easier to transcribe now ty

  • this is so great

  • Beautiful lyricism. Truly nice stuff man

  • that was truly amazing, outstanding ending

i hope someday to be able to solo like that!!

  • Thats trombone player ended that solo perfectly.

  • ya that was tight

  • Good job mate

  • So.... even though it was improvised, I figured out most of the notes of the solo.... except for the notes past 0:39 cuz i didnt get to that part yet =P

How do you get to that High E? I cant go any higher than a C /).(\

  • remember cool air means fast air which gets high notes. to get this decrease the whole size of your mouth, but don't blow hard. high notes dont take hard air they take fast so decrease the hole size. good luck!

  • I can get to the G sometimes, but whenever one goes that high in solos my tone of course goes dirty and horrible (luckily I only ever do funk solos so it's fine).

This however is playing of the highest calibre.

Only quarrel is, LOSE THE MIKE, PLAY OUT, YOU CLEARLY HAVE THE BREATH CONTROL!!

  • do a lot lip slurs. it increases your flexibility.

  • am confused are u talking about the E above the staff or is there a higher one?

  • there is always a higher one =]

  • he hits the E, an octave above the E above the staff, he hits plays it as his last note.

  • what kind of trombone are you playing on?

  • omg thats smooooth

mad props. i can't wait until i get to that level in my playing!

  • Mate, that is very sexy. Very sexy indeed. You have an awesome tone and you have the jazz groove. Peace.

  • how do u sound so 'sexy'? has it got to do with the mouthpiece u use?

  • We love coming back and listening to your solo...just beautiful. The San Diego Trombone Girls are in love with you....

  • Weeeeee!! :D

  • Wow. I cannot wait for band next year.

  • My God...teach me how to do that!

  • omg, do you give lessons?

  • Yes... :) In trombone, not so much :)

  • That was a gorgous solo, tottaly influential and breathtaking

  • wat is this music score name?

    for the trombone solo onli

  • Its improvised! :) No score, sorry.

  • if that is improvised you must be a musical genius :S

  • HOHO!! ;}

  • Hardly...It's only improv..if i knew the chords and notes i could do summit like that. most likely not of that standard, but i could play the notes.

    Good solo Onkelbolle :)

  • lol kinda contridicting urself.

Sure, but its not just in the notes man, its how u play them.

An god stp being so cocky!

  • Hardly...It's only improv..if i knew the chords and notes i could do summit like that. most likely not of that standard, but i could play the notes.

    Good solo Onkelbolle :)

  • Pretty much all guitar solos you have ever seen are improvised, as are most jazz solos and a good chunk of other instruments. Beautiful solo though.

  • what arrangement is that? sounds great!

  • wat is this music score name?

    for the trombone solo onli

  • wat is this music name call wat can tell mi

  • Can you rephrase the question? :)

  • I think hes asking what the song name is n_n

  • hi there sir.. i'ts been awhile

i have posted a video of my school's jazz band and im playing a solo in that video.. pleease criticise it for me.. thanks

  • beautiful tone i love it

  • Greaaaaaat feeling in that solo.

Could listen to this all day.

  • you have really great tone! i play the trombone too and it's always fun to hear your own instrument. you playing that solo makes people want to get off the couch and practice to be just like you. great job!

  • Thank you mate!! :)

  • trills are so fun arent they? i learned like 6 months ago to do it perfectly. it sounded cool how u incorporated the trill in the solo.....very nice=D im a trombne player too if u didnt alreDY kno

  • Absolutely jaw-dropping work right there.

  • Sommertime isn't the most difficult standard to solo, but your solo had lots of imagination and a lovely sound. Great playing! I'm a classical player, but have a Conn Constellation 1966 in perfect condition that I'm selling. If anyone interested

  • Thanks mate! I also used Arban method the days I studied the bone... :)

  • how long did it take you to get trilling down.

  • Hmmm... I have never practiced trills... I havent practiced the trombone since 2001, and at that time i couldn't do the trill. But now I can... strange enough!

  • i would recommend i a getzen custom if your budget allows. thats what i play on at my school but a conn does have its benefits.

i liked the trill i have been practicing that for awhile and i almost have it down.

  • After hearing this I always get into the mood to play the trombone. Thanks for this inspiring good solo!

  • Thanks for this inspiring good comment! :)

  • Wow really nice solo! nice trill;):P

  • yéhh man very good!!

  • Great Sound Man

  • Thankyou! :)

  • hey nothin wrong w/ USA horns haha...but yea i have a Conn 88H also, a King 3B, and an Edwards B454 bass trombone which is i would say the best thing ive ever played on, but i also love my conn and my king horns too

  • what kind of horn are u playing on?

  • Old Conn88h USA... :) Good horn, but... I would like to have a horn with bore size 33. But the horn has a warm sound :)

  • what bore size is that trombone?

  • 42...

  • hey! this sounded amazing keep up the good work! i had a question about trills, what kind of lip slur or other methods did u use to learn them?...im a 17 yr old bass trombonist and national bass trombone solo compitition i got marked off because of a tril in the piece. so if u could give me suggestions i would greatly appriciate it!

  • don't force it, just let the wind take care of it. man, i suck at trying to explain/teach, sorry. (that's why i'm perf. not education!)

  • To be honest, I don´t know how i do a trill... I stopped practicing the trombone in 2001 and I couldn´t do the trill at that time. But now, 6 years later it´s no problem though I have not practiced... :) But I have lately understood the importance of breathing, and that´s the key i think.

  • Use the Arban method - start slowly with a metronome - quarters, eighths, triplets etc. 10 to 15 mins daily with your other flexibilities, constant air flow and relaxed chops -- you'll be trilling in no time.

  • he sir.. the stuff that u told worked.. i use my stomach muscles and stuff so i can play high notes.. but sometimes my lips just die.xD i'm still having the lips problem but it's only a little bit... thanks for your help sir!

  • Ah, so it's one whole step above mine. Thought so. ;) That's a gift I'd want too. I try really hard to improvise by ear but i never find the "right" notes and when I do I cannot really do anything with them. But I'm learning.

  • Hihi! :) Well said... It´s very smart to practice alot without sheetmusic, so you get to know your horn where the different notes are :) And just listen to lots of musicians, then you´ll pick up things you can apply. I don´t listen much to trombone-music, strange enough. Pat Metheny is my hero :) Good luck!! best wishes, øystein

  • Also, what chords are in the progression of that version? I've got a version with: Dm/./././Gm7/./EØ7/A7/Dm/././Gm7 C7/F Bb7/EØ7 A7/Dm/EØ7 A7/

  • I'm a trombonist too and I love your sound. ^^ btw What key do you play it in?

  • Hello! :) I just got back from Germany, did 3 concerts there this weekend. This tune is played in E-minor. I´m not shure about the chords, I´ve my entire life improvised by ear :)

  • nice

  • ooooh.. so that's how to play it.. thanks a lot sir.. so u mean i just have to make a sound like a snake or something... and also, i play the flute.. i breath in my nose.. when i play the trombone i do the same thing. so does that also affect the sound i make? 8)

  • I have experienced this every singel time: when my students "breath in" correct with the mouth, then the sound has to be different! The air wants to come out. For the love of God, don´t sound like a snake when your´e playing the horn! It´s just a technique to observe what kind of muscles your´e using when your´e breathing out! :) The thing is, when you breath in with your nose, the air wont go in fast enough. It´s like trying to make a big jump without bending your knees first :)

  • oh okay.. i get it now.. im gonna start playing the trombone now.. thanks a lot sir.. if i have another question sometime,, im gonna ask you if that;s okay. thanks a lot8)

  • Just ask :) It´s fun to give answers.... You can send me e-mail at oystein(at)nnlp(dot)no

  • hi sir... i have posted a video of me playing my trombone.. please check it out and criticize it if u want... thanks

  • Hello, new trombonist! :) It´s a very usual problem u got there. Here´s my tip: The key to play high notes is not in the lips, it´s in your breathing. Try to say "SSSS!!!" as load as you can, then you´ll use your stummack-muscles! THAT´S how you play high notes :) LOTS of powerfull air! And remember: ALLWAYS breath in with your mouth, and LOTS! Best wishes!

  • Hi sir.. im a new trombonist.. i've been playing trombone for 7 months now and i have this huge problem.. when i play trombone for like 30 minutes or more... my lips get tired... i guess.. when this happens.. i can't play the notes above the staff.. so can u give me some advice please? i have an exam piece that im going to play in front of my teacher soon... please help me and thank you8)

  • Well a good thing to do is to play low notes a lot, and do long tones (playing the same note until youre out of breath over and over again for about 20 minutes), but long tones are kinda tedious so i suppose just playing low is good. Ive been playing for a yearnow and by playing low notes i was able to play above the staff whever i wanted within 2 weeks of starting!

  • yea i started out just like that, i would play notes for a long time and after about 2 weeks i was able to easily play low notes or high notes.
