Hi, thank you for these vids. I'm trying to learn Norwegian (planning to go there later this year) but I live in Texas, so not any Norwegians about to help me learn how the words sound. - I think singing the words helps me try to pronounce words in norsk. Maybe I'm just weird. Norwegian, to me, sound more fluid and sing-songy (does that make sense?) than English. So I practice with kind of singing before I try to speak the words. Tusen Takk!
It's a little bit confusing.. your friend next to your left, sorry don't know her name, she pronounces words some times not bright enough. My first language is not english maybe that's way it's sometimes hard to hear words in english. Nevertheless, Jeg liker å se din video :)
Hai, I typed "house" on google translate and I got "huset", but when I typed "a house" , then I got "at hus". What is the difference? And when are these two forms used? Takk
I have a question. How would you say "to be allowed to/may" I am learning german, dutch and norwegian. And German and Dutch have duerfen and mogen. is there a Norwegian equivalent? Also, your videos are Great!!
I don't understand the grammar of "Jeg kunne ha gjort det i går." Why is it "ha gjort" and not "har gjort?" I thought it was because the "ha" was attached to the "kunne," but then why is it "gjort" and not "gjorde" or something?
@NimbleNoddy That's because after a modal verb you use infinitive - that's why it's "kunne ha" not "kunne har". "gjort" is used because "ha+gjøre = har gjort" but you can't use the present tense of "ha" after a modal verb so you just add the perfektum partisipp "gjort". I know it sounds weird but it is correct though.
I believe there's a better way to explain it but perhaps this one helps as well ;-)
HAHA!! I was practicing opera when the sentence, "she oaght to sing louder" came up!! tusen takk!! I really need these lessons!! tusen takk veldig mye!!
Helpful video! But when you say the sentances at normal speed my brain cannot process the words.. and then it slips into a cosmic trance. I live here(Oslo) and struggle to understand people when they speak to me- but I'm improving! You should do a video on regional accents...

When you say it fast like that, it sounds WAY different than how I'm reading it and how you say it slow. English is one of the few languages that sounds the same slow and fast. Men Jeg liker Norske mye!!!
btw oaght is spelled "ought".
Er jeg sier dette riktig?:
Jeg ønsker lære Norske. Du er gjor en bra jobb. Jeg kjenn alle skal vet mer enn en språket.

"I want to wait it out" when spoken quickly turns to "I wanna wai_ i_ ou_" Where the _ is a glottal stop. We almost always use glottal stops for T's or turn T's in to D's as in "Glottal".
We also do thinks like "Wha-chu wanna do" instead of "What do you want to do?"
Of course I'm speaking as someone from the north-eastern states of the US...so dialects make a difference :D

For correct Norwegian word order in a modal verb clause, where do adverbs go when modifying each of the verbs?
Like in the sentence, "Jeg måtte å kjøpe en bil", what if I wanted to say "I really must buy a car" where "really" modifies "must", and if I wanted to say "I must quickly buy a car" where "quickly" modifies "(to) buy"? Where in the Norwegian sentences would the adverbs go?
I'm really stuck in German word order, and it's making it hard to write Norwegian in the right order.
@Supermassively It's "Jeg måtte kjøpe en bil", without "å", just like the german "Ich musste ein Auto kaufen" (not "Ich musste ein Auto *zu* kaufen").
The adverb is placed right behind the inflected verb: "Jeg vil *gjerne* kjøpe en bil", "Du skal *ikke* ha en bil", "Vi måtte *likevel* kjøpe en bil". The adverb has basicly the same position as in german, word order changes not until the adverb: "Jeg vil *gjerne* ha..." - "Ich will *gerne* ... haben"
@Supermassively It's "Jeg måtte kjøpe en bil", without "å", just like the german "Ich musste ein Auto kaufen" (not "Ich musste ein Auto *zu* kaufen").

The adverb has basicly the same position as in german, word order changes not until the adverb: "Jeg vil *gjerne* ha..." - "Ich will *gerne* ... haben"
@Supermassively 'jeg måtte å kjøpe en bil' is not a good sentence. the 'å' must go away. but if you want to add 'really', than you should say 'jeg måtte virkelig kjøpe en bil'.. but it would be better if you said 'jeg burde virkelig kjøpe en bil'.
modal verb clauses with 2 adverbs are bad style imho. try to split it up: "I really must buy a car. Seriously."or in spoken language: "gotta get a car fast. no shit" ;-)
but then you get the impression that "wirklich" modifies "schnell" (changing it to -> "i must buy a car really quickly"). so that's why you would better split the sentence to: "Ich muss wirklich ein auto kaufen. Und zwar schnell."

You guys are awesome. I'm learning Norwegian and without your pronuncation lessons I wouldn't be close.
Does everyone in Norway speak so fast? I can understand and repeat the slow spoken sentences fine - you just loose me every time when you speak faster!
Your videos WAS great. UNTIL you decided to talk in norwegian so fast that i cannot hear anything...im sure that norwgian language is not that fast in reality...
