To tell the truth Obari only worked on the key mecha designs. All character designs were supervised by Nobuyoshi Habara

Obari worked on the opening of this video and then left the project. Unfortunately the actual animation of the episodes leave much to be desired.

Maybe it's the origine of the name Gobots instead of the original name: "machine robo" ?

Yes it is. We got the Gobots, Japan got Machine Robo. Toys generally the same, cartoon different.
