This is not Summer Leadership Seminar (SLS) at West Point, but "R-Day Rehearsal." The new plebes report on "R-Day" on a Monday in late June every year. On the Friday before, the academy recruits "mock cadets" so the cadet cadre can get the logistical wrinkles worked out before the real thing. R-Day rehearsal is eye-opening but fun.
I was here 2 weeks ago as a visitor. and lets just say that all i saw was 3 colors BLACK GREY AND WHITE!!!! i wanted to kill my sellf. GO AIR FORCE ACADEMY
Believe me, they get a whole lot better at the "firm tone" after the rehearsal, and especially if they spent all summer with the plebes practicing every day.
VMI? Don't know much about it, but USMA isn't getting into a hazing contest. Once you reach THAT level its all about personal development, no old school crap.
@Pizack3 No doubt the USMA isn't getting into a hazing contest. That was my point -- VMI cadets learn a "firm tone" without needing to rehearse on a bunch of long-haired civvies. And if you ever want to see what the Old School was really like, just head south on I-81.
1:02 - We're practicing yelling at civilians because "believe it or not," your command voices "are not a natural act."
Unless you went through the Rat-line at VMI, that is. If you had done that, you would find yourself projecting a command voice without needing the intermediate step of rehearsing on a bunch of civvies.
this really isnt that bad but i will tell u that the yelling and screaming isnt to make u learn faster or retain knowledge...it teaches disipline and critical thinking
Nah, I think he just visited, (old people there too) that wasnt the seminar.
In the seminar they would be all wearing the same clothes, and it would be all young people. They would be doing excercises too, and staying for at least one week.
The "inspirational tone of leadership" that the CSM was talking about was that if they can't deal with a few people yelling at them now, how are they going to be able to cope when they have bullets flying at them or bombs going off and they have to make decisions?
all that bullshit has no value in the real world. Not with real troops and not in real business. 4 years waisted.

Hooah! Way to go, sir. It's always good to see someone speak out for the Virginia Military Institute, especially when the subject is West Point.

is this from a tv show or something?

Sure. Wouldn't want them to learn how to deal with stress or anything. That wouldn't make sense.

Yes, yelling at people helps them learn better and faster and RETAIN information quicker. Ok that's BS. I'm in the army and it didn't help anything.

It's probably a good idea to memorize the response to the cadet in the red sash beforehand... lol
