I was referring to the discrepancy between what is right and what is legal. It isn't legal everywhere, but it is right (imo) that two people who love each other should be allowed to marry - despite what other people think.
Sacrificing children HAS been legal well before there was a ban on it - Jephthah killed his daughter for the glory of Yahweh (Judges 11). At some point you have to derive your morality from your own compassion rather than simply what is "written".

The fact that the vow is reported separately indicates that it was not something done under the Spirit of the Lord at all.

I already proposed a better way that would truly make a separation between church and state which is marriage be removed from government control AGAIN (because it once was) and have them issue only civil unions with full benefits.

1. Homo sapiens are humans, they are referred to as people, they are social beings, they are often characterized by national origin, language, national identity, political preference, race, wealth, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc.

i dont think homosexuals should be aloud to get married because that is a religious thing and its against the bible. But I do believe homosexuals should get the rights of a christian married couple. Personally from growing up with a friend who has a gay brother, and their family being devout christians. I think its a gene that makes people gay. Because now the only he says hes not gay (which its clear he is still attracted to men) is so his family accepts him... which is sad and unhealthy

Huh. Well, actually, at the time of black slavery in the U.S., many of its proponents claimed that the Bible WAS cool with it. I find it disturbing enough that a book with guidelines on how to keep and treat slaves (several of which sound rather cruel, really, such as DRIVING AN AWL THROUGH YOUR SLAVE'S EAR INTO THE DOOR) is looked to for moral guidance, but I find it even more disturbing that the same book is interpreted differently every decade.

Some slaves chose to be slaves, some were not allowed to be beaten, some could not be ruled with rigour.
