If you search "I've been working on the railroad" on wikipedia, it will show you full lyrics of both the modern version of the song and also older versions. While today it is a nursery rhyme, what 'm saying is that the song itself is darker than that.

Besides, it was only a joke. There's nothing wrong with it. Should we be so protective of other peoples children as to not be able to live our own lives anymore?

@Schwaffle1 As with most songs people make lyrics up. I've done it myself. An example is Yankee Doodle. I'm sure you've heard the X rated versions. Well maybe not X, but R rated. Anyway, it's a good song and I'm glad that my 6th grade teacher sang it with us. Like I said in my other comment, my teacher also read us Little House on the Prairie. It is possible to learn the goodness in the world and then at a later date to learn of the evils. I would recommend learning the good at an early age.

Not the way we sung it in my 6th grade class with my teacher playing the piano, but good nonetheless. She would also read Little House on the Prairie to us. Then the next year my 7th grade teacher would play old American marching band and patriotic type music, and other music, in a "class" called Music Appreciation. I guess they were trying to "brainwash" us into liking and appreciating our country.
