なぜ英語が難しいか？

こんにちは。

最近英会話スクールに通いだした17歳です。

今海外にいてスペイン語で英語を習っています。今は始ったばかり­で、みんな発音に苦労してますが、日本との決定的な違いは、発音­が分からないからと言って　例：「speakはspiikと読む」　とは教わらない点です。こちらでカナはないので極端に変な発音に­なることはありませんが、やはりみんなスペイン語訛りがかなりあ­ります。しかし常に「英語」のみを見て勉強していってるので皆発­音の覚えが早い気がします。分からなければ先生にすぐに確認しま­す。が、ここで「忘れないために読みをメモしておこう」というこ­とをせずに少しづつ時間をかけて覚えて言っているところがポイン­トです。

最近このことに気づき、さらにあなたの動画でもそのようなお話を­なさっていたので更に共感しました。

これからも同じようにやっていこうと思います。

How many years did it take you to reach this point in Japanese?

By the way, I strongly agree with your point that we can communicate the same idea in different languages but in that process, the nuance will be lost by some degree.

@jp10IamMeNotU I lived in Japan for nine years. I focus on listening and reading until I have enough familiarity with the language, a large enough vocabulary then I redirect my energies towards the grammar, pronunciation and output. By then it is a lot easier.

I've been studying at community college in the U.S. for a year,

and still struggling with my English proficiency, but at least, my English

skill have been getting better since I came here and listen, read, speak and study every day. When I came here, I only know, "Hello, My name is...brabrabra", Can you believe this? All I did was, just listen, watch video, read, imitate and speak as you said.

I'm learning English.

I threw away grammer books and instead of using that, I read lots of books,listen the English video in Youtube. it's much more helpful than useless grammer text.

Steve, Im trying to improve my vocabulary and I bought manga's that are in japanese thought this would be a real fun way to learn and bring motivation. There are alot of words I dont know because of my low vacabulary. Anywho my point is would you know a good resource such a translator for this? Google translate i just dont trust. Thanks, Garrett

I think most difficult point is vocabulary. "translate to other language"

its a matter of course.?

if I know many noun(s) of the country words., then almost the intention is transmitted, without use the verb, preposition, ..etc.

and, when I was student I learned, necessary verb is " get / take / have " that's all.

However, it is difficult to remember the name of the one..

It can do nothing but remember repeatedly. thanks

@Satoshi35 Yes, words are the key. If you have words you can understand more and read more, and get used to the phrases and patterns of the language. It was this understanding that inspired the development of LingQ.

"check it up" , heard for me, "tequila" ?!

but, my brain remember that situation (cheking something) with image "tequila sun-rize" :-)

I have learned English for almost 7years, 6years in Japan, and now I'm studying at a college in America.

I think,the educational sistem of English in Japan is awful!!

The teachers who teach English in Japan are using Japanese while they are teaching, so we can't speak English after finish high school.

The teachers can't speak English either.

We know a lot of grammatical things, but these are not working for us.

So I think, we have to input more, and we have to get used to real English.

因みに、私は英語と韓国語を勉強している日本人です。

マスターする上で難しい事は、Iingosteveさんと同じ意­見なのでビックリしました。韓国語は語順が日本語と同じですし、­単語も漢字からが多いので、多少取り組み方が違いますが、戦略は­同じと言えます。

基本的には同じですが、一つ気を付けているは、アウトプットを意­識することです。どちらかというとインプットが自然と多くなって­しまい、聴くだけや読むだけと偏ってしまうと理解が出来ても使え­るまでには届かないとなります。

ですから、自分が大切にしているのは、音読です。聴こえたまま音­読してみる。

小さな声でも良いから実際に声を出して体で覚えるようにとしてお­ります。

難しいのは、そのバランスのとり方です。日本に住んでいますから­、会話は日本語で、ＴＶなどはやっぱりインプットが多くなってし­まうので、５分でも良いから毎日音読して録音してを続けておりま­す。

会話が出来る友達などが出来るといいなと思っております。

日本人なら誰もがそうだと思うんですが、ネイティブの日常会話の­リスニングが一番難しいです。しゃべるのが早すぎます。学校の授­業でネイティブの会話を録音した教材で教えてくれればいいんだけ­ど・・・。

Who cares about my accent or my mistakes? I for sure don't. Just enjoy languages, make mistakes, mispronounce, get the grammar wrong and communicate!

I totally agree with you that you shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes when learning languages, but it is very frustrating to realize that you are miscommunicating with others because of the minor mistakes in your speech, especially if you are an advanced speaker. I guess that frustration is also part of your learning process.

There will always be moments when we do not understand or have to repeat what we say. No big deal. We will never get rid of that, and if we are afraid of it we will never speak.

Yes, that's right. Even mothertongue speaker make mistakes every day, especially when they want to express more complex issues. Languages are dynamic and allow for quite a lot of big mistakes and yet manage to convey what was originally meant to be expressed.

Whenever you learn a language as a secondary language you have to accept, or better yet, embrace the possibility that you won't achieve complete mastery in that particular language, especially when more than one language is involved.

His accent is fine, and in certain colloquial situations, "ka" can be put after an adjective. But you'd known that if you cared more about just learning Japanese, than just being an accent nazi.

Yes, I enjoy accents very much as well, and they are an integral part of language learning; however, pointing out someone else's mistakes is just obnoxious and rash. Good job at calling the kettle black.
