  • Fuck that, TSOY PEREMEN!!!!

  • @Psyhoulf шел бы ты отсюда, говнарик

  • 0:55 and on... how can they just be standing there, without doing anything, without even exploding?

  • I love how they sound live.

  • Any guys who has a haircut like Morrissey, I would marry them straight up. the Smiths are one of my favorite bands and I am disappointed that the youth of today enjoy such rubbish music that involves sounds only mad buy machines and voices made by auto tune. Bands like The Smiths, Roxy Music, Talking Heads etc should be appreciated more :) I'm fourteen and I was raised with this music and will definitely be raising my children with bands like The Smiths. Johnny Marr is a god, Morrissey is a god

  • that scream fuckin kills me everytime lol only Moz wloud do that and it better live

  • look at these fucking hipsters LOLOLOL

  • To me this is the best bassline ever written and not once does Andy make a mistake.. floorless

  • @Sonnysidee

your comment is almost as flawless as his playing.

  • Amazing! I love it.....

  • the last minute just proves if anything else that the Smiths were a four-piece.

Andy Rourke deserved so much more than he got in his settlement, i think it was like 80 grand? disgrace.

Mike Joyce got about what he deserved, his drumming was solid. 10% is fair i think.

  • I only watched this so I could see Moz & Marr dance together.

  • Sounds like the beginning of BAGGY MADCHESTA!!

  • This is Newcastle, it's cold, it's the 1980s and most music is artifical, corporate, copyist, shit or all of the above. Suddenly the Smiths arrived and the audience starts to thaw in a slow glacial way - within weeks the ripples from this performance had influenced just about every wanabee indie band in the country. There was a spark of life yet in pop music following disco, the Police, Duran Duran, music colleges, jazz funk and other attrocities of the era (not least Maggie Thatcher).

  • EPIC <3

  • WHAT a fucking great group. Up there with Stones, Beatles. End of.

  • when i go see morrissey in december im just going to stand there and watch just like the people in the audience

  • Who the fuck are the gorms in the audience. Dance for fuck sake

  • I just cut my hair like Morrissey

  • I think its fun to note in this vid how the audience are not entirely sure how to react to the Smiths performance at this stage in thier career. I was 14 when they formed and if you watch any live performance about a few months after this one, they are going nuts. Oscillating wildly for those in the know :D

  • that is one tight bass player!

  • funky

  • andy rourke is a freaking genious

  • Normally I don't like the Smiths, but this song and This Charming Man is pure win. I play this song on the bass, but do it using Slapping and popping. It sounds gloriously funky.

  • the bassline is just swesome

  • watched ths at school today!!!!!!

  • @lkjhb1 I wish I went to your school xDDDD

  • @girlafraid1107 I go to the Rebecca School in NYC and they have a sensory gym there!!!!!!

  • @lkjhb1 Well I live in the UK and we don't really have much of anything xD I finish this year though so it's all good :)

  • Morrisey and Marr actually getting along? :P

  • Does anyone know where I can get the bass tab to this song?

  • @MusicAndMirth its really easy to learn it starts on second fret on E string :)

  • @MusicAndMirth Have a look at micturion(dot)com(forward slash)smiths

  • Like this if you have watched this hundreds of times just to see Morrissey and Marr dancing. XD

  • 4:49 O.O scary! xD

  • man, i would give so much to have been able to see this live! the andy's bassline and marr's guitar throughout are just amazing.

  • Sooooooooooo G*E*N*I*U*S

  • since then(1987) the top of the pop's crowd has not clue about genius music.... sad

  • @simolui

    its not totp

  • bloody brilliant!

  • What a great bass player.

  • Agreed....their basslines always got me, they always stand out in just about every single Smith song....Magic along with Marrs riffs

  • @oldpunkster which is exactly why morrissey is a complete idiot for saying andy rourke and mike joyce weren't important. its the same with nirvana, you dont realise it but its actually the bass line that musically seperates them from other bands

  • that bass player is amazing, especially considering he uses a pick. Wow!

  • @margittarget nothing wrong with using a pick! You wouldn't get that tone otherwise

  • @funkninja9 Chris Squire of Yes always used a pick and he is pretty phenomenal whether you like the music or not

  • And better singer too =D

  • @sausagerollnah Indeed he did.

  • Rourke, Marr and Morrissey sound so epic.

  • @jamiekelly12

Many people believe Marr wrote the basslines, but it's just rumours. Rourke wrote all the basslines to compliment Marrs riffs. Marr stated at one point that Rourkes work on the Queen is Dead album couldn't be matched by any other bassist.

  • @zXeCLiPzeXz Andy Rourke said he had this bass riff and Johnny Marr wrote the riff around it.

  • this sounds just like the original!!!!!!

  • Andy Rourke Writes The Sexiest Basslines On Earth.

  • Comment removed

  • @zXeCLiPzeXz Interesting...whose are the best five and the following worst five basslines according to you?

    Don't worry, I'm just a bass-lines appreciater.

  • tasty

  • WHY FLOWERS HANG FROM MORRISSEY ASS ?

  • This is, in my opinion, the best basslines on a Smiths song ever recorded.

  • Did the drummer make a mistake?

  • okay. im so sorry brandon..mark. dave. ron....ummm...this sounds a lot like jenny :| the bassline. meh. whatever. lets leave it as innovation....

  • @Smallville357 no, you're right. The Killers stole this bassline wholesale from the Smiths, who wrote it 25 years earlier. Surprised there hasn't been a lawsuit yet, knowing Rourke.

  • @scalperjack1

nooooo!!! hey. james cameron stole avatar from pocahontas. k? the killers are amazing. my favourite band. favourite 4 men in the world.....me second favourite band is the smiths naturally....and the thing is.....when you actually play each song in full....they sound completely different. its only the intro!

  • @Smallville357 The Killers > The Smiths?! Are you actually serious? Christ -.-

  • @TheModCon

listen man....we all have preferences.....u shud be thankful that im not another justin bieber clone....

i could be saying: justin bieber > everything. but im not. coz hes nothing.

  • @Smallville357 Hah hah I haven't got anything against Justin Bieber. It's not his fault he's so popular is it? ^^ His songs are bollocks, but so are most songs in the charts at the moment.

  • @TheModCon

well theres something we can agree on......the killers are my kryptonite and the smiths ur heroes....lets leave it at that. and i gotta say, 99.9% of whats on tv/mtv is just nonsense....so its refreshing to have a band like the killers from the mojave reminding me of all the music i wish i had grown up with :)

  • MONUMENTAL bass riff by Rourke. Marr also good. Great tune.

  • You know what? If Joy Division would've lasted just a bit longer, I would've liked them to tour with these guys! It would of been amazing!

  • Legendary bassline

  • Thumbs up if you think Morrissey is better dancer than Michael Jackson :D

  • @nigggala and he is not all plastic and fake like MJ was.

  • @mossmusic I think the only dancer in my opinion that would beat Morrissey, though he is awesome, is Ian Curtis of Joy Division!

  • @nigggala i give you a thumb up mate.... in the ass.. hate how kids come to watch smiths videos and they post fucking stupid comment like thumb up ecc..ecc.. go and watch Lilly Allen you prick..

  • @nigggala better? no. lovablely more eccentric, YES!

  • @carlo88moe

Lovable and eccentric for me means better :P

    : ))

  • @nigggala Would it have been cool if Micheal Jackson and Morrissey had a Dance Off!?

  • @Kento617 It would be if they did it now... Jacko dances like an Emo these days...

  • @nigggala michael jacksons dancing has been a bit stiff recently

  • @mrjoeington Now that, thats was fucking funny lol that made my night

  • incredible, 22 people who watched this video, and dicided to not like it,

    and also vote for that.

i bet many of those 22 would change their opinion after 3 or 4 listenings.. :)

  • Agree with everything in the comment about Andy - excellent bass !

  • andy rourke plays some basslines doesn't he? What a player..he is so overlooked behind morrisey and marr, but still I think he was a big part of this excellent sound. respect to andy rourke!

  • @MrCemsipahi well put, i concur (that is a word, right?)

  • Do the audience know what stands before them? The Smiths playing Barbarism Begins at Home that's what's up

  • А у Цоя все равно лучше.

  • Jesus fuck this crowd.

  • bass line in this song is so underrated, such an awesome groove.

  • funky this

  • if only musicians today could jam out like this. its sad they would rather look to synthesizers and dance music these days.

  • @jaredmofckindick

guitar music is in no way superior to 'dance' music

  • The music in all the smiths song is FUCKING AWESOME. Nuff said.

  • My Summer Hit 2011!!!

  • haha johnny's bringing back the twist lmao!!!

  • aaaah!

  • I think johnny marr wrote all the music including the bass parts. So andy doesn't deserve that much credit.

  • @Dangunner19 Andy wrote his bass lines. He was friends with Johnny for so long he wrote in a way that would suit his style. He did, apparently, write the drum patterns. It's likely to be a rumour though, as Mike's drum patterns fit his inspirations very closely.

  • mooooozzzzzza <3 loooove you <3

  • gotta be one of the funkiest basslines ever created, stays in my head for days on end!

  • gwan andy

  • The Brazil, and São Paulo love The Smiths! Morrissey and Marr dancing togrther is wonferful!!!!

  • I love The Smiths forever!

  • Andy Rourke shows in this song just why he's underrated. This song in particular showcases the bass as a driving force.

  • some credit where its due to the bassist, very very good!

  • Awesome bassline

  • Loved it!

  • entrancing

  • Perfect . We Love T.Smiths

  • I'm fascinated with this Johnny Marr "riff!". Im listening to all the other musicians having a go at recreating it on YouTube, and no one can. The last half of a 4 bar riff, has completely stumped a generation.

    Excellent!!!

  • @kevdop Hell yeah Marr can really shred. One of the most underrated guitarists in history imo.

  • Boy the groove from that shred!!!! and the bass!!! SHIT...Hypnotic

  • Boy the groove from that shred!!!! Hypnotic

  • anyone who dislikes need a bloody "crack on the head!" :)

  • cool as fook!

  • I never forgot seeing this the first time it was broadcast. Just sensational. Just sensational. What a band.

  • Andy Rourke is a sex god

  • Why isn't this on i-tunes?

  • @yknot10 'coz iTunes is Apple and Apple is an evil force

  • @pl4sm4 Bought the most of the original Smiths vinyls a few weeks ago, well worth the money.

  • You know, it's a shame. They looked like they were having fun.

  • Morrissey and Marr dancing at the end is just priceless.

  • the guitare and the bass are so creative, amazing ! You really feel them

  • ses pets sentent la rose !

  • awefuckinaweßøme

  • excelent bass line. guitar riff is marvelous.

  • Awesome riff !

  • Muito bommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • With rhythm guitar sounding this good, who needs guitar solos? :p

  • lol at morrisey and marr dancing at the end.

  • Why dont more people talk about the fact that the killers stole this bass riff for 'Jenny was a friend of mine'

  • @theylllosecontrol

    Wow....you have reason O__o

    anyway,this is better :P

  • @theylllosecontrol Because all of music is borrowed...most things have been "done" in some way or another...just look back to classical music and lots was happening then that has carried over..

Of course things will sound the same...it's the nature of it. As long as The Killers didn't intentionally plageurise then I have no problem with...

Being a musician myself, I find it difficult to find something that is dead original...

    Great groove though, isn't it?!

  • Who are the 19 that dissed this? Weird! LoveUGodBless, T and J KABBALAH MATTHEWSHEPARD MADONNALICIOUS

  • Morrissey's got the moves

  • man i want to be in that dance pit :)

    the smiths<3

  • awesome entertaining band :)

  • i wish i could be part of that little dance pit!

  • I love Moz screams !!

  • Best spent 6 minutes and 23 seconds of my life.

  • 18 people need a crack on the head

  • Fuck!!! What a track!! I really regret not being in to them at the time. I always thought of The Smiths as a band for loners, nerds and saddos with no girlfriend. Since then I've mellowed and now realise that Johnny Marr was actually the coolest bloke on the planet. The jury's still out on Morrisey though......

  • fuck sake, rourkey shouldnt be a dj, laying down tasty bass licks over funky chops is what he does best.

  • his hair is just AWESOME!

  • cool beat....love it!!!

  • And the years just fall away... I taped this performance but lost the video years ago. What a great find.

  • Thumbs up if you jumped out your seat, swinged your hips and threw your arms to the beat. The Smiths Are MORE Tight Than A Nuns Front Bum.

  • @xGoD4CoD4x I don't think many people did that, song was great though.

  • @MattyGrayless95 turning your speakers up full vol will do it though, trust me ;)

  • Are the audience under some kind of Morrissey-induced trance?

  • Comment removed

  • @ilikegreengiraffes Wouldn't you be?

  • @gilron2008 That's pretty much how I spend my time.

  • @ilikegreengiraffes yes, im there with them right now.

  • @ilikegreengiraffes

Yeah, just like me. I mean, honestly, how could any living person on this planet not be ?

  • 2:13

Either they're a bunch of mannequins, or they are totally star-struck.

  • everyone in that audience is stupid

  • Fucking brilliant.

Instrumentally and vocally, The Smiths are just godly. Easily one of the best bands of all time.

  • what the hell is wrong with the crowd!!!??? lol if i were there i would have been screaming my fucking lungs out and jumping all over the place! xD

  • @rplemus hahah! :D

  • @rplemus thats because, you appreciate that the smiths arent around any more. well not playin together atleast.

  • AMAZING footwork at the end by moz & marr... love it

  • awesome............love the Smiths...they still sound so fresh and the music and lyrics are the soundtrack to my life.....they were the original's at keeping it real! mwahhhh x

  • esto es verdad cabrones,la barbarie comienza en casa

    saludos desde chile

  • This band makes me so proud to be a fellow Mancunian. And also that Morrissey lived like.. 10 minutes away from my house

  • his E is in F#

  • his E is in F#

  • @weesax1234 now that's redundant

  • @MertonDJ whats redundant?

  • @weesax1234 they're a good band, but The Smiths is on the unreachable top mate sorry :/

  • my mate for sum reason says bands wud be just as gud without the bass, u gorra have a bass though cum on
