CHEVROLET OWNS NASCAR FOR 50YRS AND DODGE OWNS NHRA FOR 40YRS, AND HONDA OWNS INDY CAR RACING. SO WHAT DOES THAT LEAVE FORDS OWNING?JUST STATING THE FACTS. CHECK THE BOOKS. (:>)
Ok let me put my 2 cents in out the engine. In 1996 ford replaced its 5.0L (which is actually a 4.9) 302 v8 pushrod with a 4.6L 281 90 degree modular engine. It origanally put out only 215hp but was later beefed up to 225 then in 1999 it was made stronger again by adding different heads from the previous years it was now putting out 260hp and it stayed that way till 2005. it was yhen made even stroger putting out 300hp untill 2011 when the 5.0 (4.9) was brought back putting out over 400hp.
the 80's 302's were extremely restricted and were actually only rated for 200hp....so the 96 would win. that and i have a 96gt auto and my buddy has an 89gt 5speed, my car beats his all day.
@lawdawg1400 If they're both completely stock, then you're full of shit, the 96-98 Mustang GT automatics had one of the sorriest valvebodies ever put in a performance car, their 0-60 time is about 7 seconds, and an E7-headed Fox body with a 5-speed was capable of doing it in just over 6 seconds.
Can't simply figure out the end just by 10 hp. Engine power and torque, transmission and gears, car weight and driver all can make a difference in a race.
281 its 281 no matter what anyone says or looked up whereever u looked up at is wrong its 281.. i know its 281 buddy of mine had his bored out and its is 281 to start with its now at 302 with the 302 stroker kit and yes u can have it 302 4.6 its awesome its better than the 5.0 bec the 5.0 is a push rod and the 4.6 isnt look it up before u say anything to me bec i know im right and its been done
@MR2Racer89 you're right and i can back you up on that ive got all of my 4.6 shop manuals and if you look up the vin number on fords production lines it will show you its 281 hp off the line. mines a 97 gt straight from dearborn michigan :)
i misunderstood what foxbodyboy2092 was sayin he was sayin the 99 and up 4.6GT v8's are 260 hp but the 96 97 98 mustang 4.6 is 212 hp and all of years 4.6 is 281 cubic
@sonofthewolf2 No 4.6 has ever been rated at 281 horsepower, they're 281 cubic inches. Non-pi 4.6 motors in the CV/GM, T-Bird/Cougar, f150 and Mustang were between 175 horsepower(natural gas) to 225 horsepower(98 GT), the PI 4.6 was from 225 horsepower(CV/GM) to 270 hp(Bullitt GT). The 3valve 4.6 goes from 290 hp in the FSeries to 315 horse in the 10' GT. Finally, all of the early 4valve 4.6s ranged from 260hp(Continental) to 305hp(96-98 Cobra) and went up from there.

@NathanEG217 the 2011 isn't a 4.94L like the 302 was, but rather an ACTUAL 5.0L.

would a 1984 mustang gt beat a automatic 1996 mustang gt?
ulloaj 3 years ago
It might pull harder off the line but i think the 96 GT would kill it top end.
Hansm28 3 years ago
Depends if the 1984 was auto or stick
Stick shift would.
automatic probably would too.
Seeing as how the 84 is a 5.0

@NWpowerhouse85 both are completely stock...the fox body's are slow! i mean c-mon, the non-pi 4.6 is poop lol and i'm consistently faster.

fox body mustang 5.0 has 225hp stock and the 4.6 stock mustang has 215hp so you can figure out the end :)
