@TonkatrainHONKHONK , as you've noted, it's a bicycle. As such, I have all the rights and responsibilities of any other road user. If you don't know how that my vehicle is legal on the road, you can perhaps recognize that your lack of understanding is common and a root cause of this sort of problem.
@freddotu On many highways you can't ride bikes. If you are riding one you should be over on the shoulder in many cases. If a car was going these speeds it would not take long to get pulled over for slowing down traffic and being a hazard.
@TonkatrainHONKHONK, in the USA, only interstate highways are off-limits to cyclists and in some parts of the country, they are permitted on the interstate. There are provisions for cyclist that enable safe riding, contrary to your interpretation and it works. I am not responsible for the actions of stupid drivers, which is what this video presents.
@postalpaulie, the very first ride is listed in "howling at the zoom" or use
watch?v=JkSlaoEusr0 to get there. It was taken 4 years ago, and 25,000 miles back, so the velomobile looks a bit worse for wear now. The dog was not injured, although she sure sounds like it!
@CyclingMagician, It's called a velomobile, a fully enclosed, all-weather human powered vehicle. Search online for that term and you'll find dozens of models and thousands of links.
You're creating one hell of an obstruction with this..uhh... bicycleish object that you insist on driving on high-speed restricted access roads. I'm surprised it's legal where you are, because here (Ontario) you'd be breaking multiple laws moving so much slower than traffic on a road like that.
You can post people reacting poorly all you want, the real problem is the person moving dangerously slowly ruining traffic flow.
@JohnUnit, and the misconceptions you hold in your alleged mind continue to distribute themselves. You also carry misconceptions about cycling in your province, as there are plenty of skilled cyclists in the forums from canada who operate in a similar and safe manner.
Keep in mind that thousands of drivers have zero trouble on these same roads and only the "exceptional" ones make it to YouTube.
@chrisstefanetti1, I don't know about showing him who is boss, but you'd think he'd realize that those lanes come to an end and not try to do the same thing on the very next one!
Nice video :), would just question your choice of road positioning when you pass that right turning junction, there does seem to be ample room next to you. stay safe man
@jameszoom, if a lane is not fourteen feet in width, it is considered by many states in the USA as unsafe to permit a bicycle and motor vehicle to be operated side-by-side. Almost all of the roadways on which I operate have eleven or twelve foot wide lanes, well under the fourteen feet specification. Some drivers may be courteous enough to change lanes when passing or to provide a safe passing clearance, but I've had too many close passes before I learned how to do it right.
@rojm, it's unfortunate that you want to place responsibility on me because a driver is unable to perform a safe lane change, while all the other road users have zero trouble doing so. You are lacking a proper grip on reality.
@freddotu I'm lacking a grip on reality? You know you abuse the law? Yea bikes can go on roads and you have 100% "right of way" 100% of the time, but you don't see anyone else blocking traffic like you. Maybe you should ask yourself why people are so mad at you all the time. And all you say it "i'm within the law" when they confront you. It's like someone flashing a laser pointer in your eye, It's not illegal, but just becuase it is doesn't mean you should go around doing it to everyone.
@rojm, nope, no abuse of the law here. I'm operating under safe cycling practices. People are not mad at me all the time. There are people who post comments on YouTube who don't understand safe cycling and how it makes other road users have an easier way of handling cycling traffic. I'm not blocking traffic, I am traffic.
You won't likely follow the hint, but League of American Bicyclists offer safe cycling courses that explain such things.
@rojm They don't always have right of way, and i don't think freddotu is claiming that, they have pritty much equal to that of cars, if they are travelling on a main road, its your responisility to get round them... i admit in this video i think he is too far in the middle of the lane... i dnt really understand what your are trying to say with that 100% "right of way" 100% of the time... :S and shining a laser pointer at somebodies eyes is ilegal :)
I think the appropriate expression for that driver is that he or she couldn't plan a p1ss up in a brewery with that display of thinking ahead (or rather not).
I've found in the velo and on the highway in the car or on the motorcycle that some people are afraid to drive on the left side of the road. Even if it's a 4 lane one with ample oppurtunity to make a safe pass on the left side.
@WaterFall1973, as we have a large contingent of older drivers in Florida, I'm inclined to believe you. It's pretty foolish to pass on the right, though. I doubt this old guy will change his ways.
The only hazard here is you holding up traffic with your wierd bicycle concraption. I don't even know how that is legal on the road...
