Has anyone noticed that when you play "Harlequin Forest" after "Face in the Snow" the whole ting can sound rather great? I don't know if this is because of the similitude in vocal melodies, but goddamn it sounds good...
I can't believe I'd thank a fan of Opeth for uploading a "whole" song.. but THANK you so much that you did! The two other uploaders cut out the wonderful intro of the song. Idiots!
@LumberjackShred I'd like very much to visit it someday. Would be an amazing experience for an Opeth lover such as myself. The Morningrise cover is still one of my favourite album covers ever. What a beautiful photograph.
This album is definitely the most radical departure of their careers. This is a good tune, why they left this off and left on tracks like Slither is beyond me.
I know Akerfeldt likes to change things, but imo the band dropped the ball with this album. Not that they should repeat themselves, but I remember when both 'Deliverance' and 'Damnation' came out simultaneously, the former being the dark and heavy metal album while Damnation was the total opposite melodic counterpart.
If they had released another album to go along this one, another polar opposite, that would of been epic. But alas that's Opeth for you, always evolving into what I do not know.
I love the bonus tracks on this album, there better than the songs that made it on the album in my opinion. I respect the change Opeth went through, but any true fan would be dissapointed by Heritage. It's just not as immerse are there previous works, the heavy aspect of Opeth is huge. It's there roots. it's like a massive part of their music is missing. Still though, I look forward to anything that Akerfeldt puts out. What an amazing musician. What an amazing band.
thank god i discovered this and "Pyre" before i got really dissapointed with the album, and turned away from it. The old OPETH is still in there somewhere.
This is such a beautiful chilled out track. Songs like this always put me into a deep day dream, its like i am taken into the devil's orchard itself! Fantastic!
Sounds like something off of Ghost Reveries. But yeah, it really should have been on the album. This song is so damn good, and it feels really weird to like a b-side...
Killswitch Engage already did a pretty rockin' cover of Holy Diver, not to say the Opeth version would be any less legitimate. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I think it's pretty cool to create something new instead of retreading the past.

may slither seems a little strange because it's one of the most up tempo songs of opeth in genral.but still has this feeling and it's finale is just great, pure quality.
after hearing heritage (the album) over and over, along with the two bonus tracks, im really curious why he didn't throw these in. one of the songs I really don't like on the album is Slither, I know it's a tribute for Dio, but it couldve been done so much better in my opinion, he shouldve done a cover of Holy Diver or something, THAT would be fucking sick
@skateNappreciate Yeah. I agree dude. Slither was the only mediocre song on Heritage in my opinion. The rest were awesome including the two bonus tracks. And a cover of holy diver would be orgasmic
@MawcDrums yeah definetly, but i like cause of that...sometimes, simple things can be awesome.. but i agree with all of you saying that Face in the snow should have been on the album...i think that even Pyre should be on the album...
@skateNappreciate If they did a cover of Holy Diver, they'd probley just let Fredrik handle the solo as they do these days. ..which is disappointing to me, cause I love Mikael's finesse in his guitar solos.
@skateNappreciate i think holy diver is over copied... when he did was supposed to be simple... not some 7/8 jazz beat and then an intense acoustic solo followed by a heavy 7/8 beat
" No more wishes for the past no lingering of " somthinger " desperations and fevers last the undertows are stronger here and here I lie, another morning arise too far away from coming home I see your face in the snow inside my head a voice calls for me I see your face in the snow and outside the sun is to far away to feel and here I lie, another morning arise too far away from coming home and could we live within the wake of hidden lies when we're too far away ... "
@Naxnaxs lol I know; But Hex Omega was the first Opeth song I didn't totally love. But after hearing The Throat of Winter, and the new album, I think Hex Omega makes sense.

The beginning is amazing. The first minute reminds me of Jim Hall and Bill Evans in Undercurrent. Modal jazz with just piano and guitar :)

Definitely think it applies here. So sad, but this song is jaw droppingly beautiful.

Carefully read all the lyrics of the songs by Opeth, at least go through some of them...
Its way way more than conventional song writing...
