people think your mad ,but i think it could be a cover up for your true skill(never judge a book by its cover )what is underneath the skin .all the train of your internal body as well as your body movements.keep it up
First I do like your moves relaxed and rubbery, to jazz0914 can we get off the discussion of were martial arts came from, did not cave men use martial arts, it probably existed in India before Africa, but you know what who cares.
i was wondering if and what you may know of the Australian aboriginals . Their use of the fire(fire tender) in the center sending prayers to the gods while dig players encircle the fire with their animal conversations. and finally they all are ringed 100-500 ft away by the bullroarmen, who protect the circle from demons!
man, your one huge hippy, but I like you, your like some kind of martial clown, a trickster (I mean that in a good way). I'm tired of everyone in the trad/internal MA community being so damn serious and macho-posturing about everything. Your like a breath of fresh air in a stuffy room. I'd like to push hands with you. If your ever in my neck of the woods, check me out.
It has know been documented that the ancient fighting sciences date back as far if not further then the kushite empire in africa. Ahati Khalidai ihi is the man known for bringing this to the states. He was honored at the wesley snipes masters demonstration that was on cable around the time the first blade film came out. This has also been documented in the many different tombs of the egptyian rolyalty u had to also been a warrior as well as rule the land
First of all the african fighting arts were hiddden in the dances as well as the conditioning methods from the drumming instruments. Remember we are a warrior class of people all the fighting arts come from africa oops i mean the kush empire. If u wanna study true african arts study Aha-Saki
i think the way daoist would have seen their version of a trance as a more balanced way of doing things, as they would not fall to an extreme of giving self control up to a spirit, but submit their will to the dao and their natural selves.
instead of of becoming empty and becoming occupied by ancestors or spirits, i think they would become empty to be filled with the dao. essentially they were becoming entranced with their natural selves, not the essence of some other being.
You are correct but there's one problem. There is not really a word "Daoist" in Chinese! So I'm talking about the trances of Wu (transmediums) who sometimes call themselves Daoshi(daoist priest?). And I'm also talking about Daoshi who practice physical ritual in which all the trance states of the Wu are incorporated and then "brought" to Dao and resolved.
i got you man. i see where you are coming from. i guess you could use what i was saying in more of a refference to the daoist martial artist and there mindset.
... the chinese daoist i think do fall into a trance, the original circle walking had nothing to do with martial arts, it was a walking meditation. meditation is meant to quiet the mind and let it move naturly connected to the dao....
i think it would help alot of people to understand what you are talking about if you relate the mindset of the trance from the african perspective to the daoist principle of wu wei. they are the same thing, the trance is nothing more than no mind, and moving from there.that is the power of the trance. the chinese
despite any shite people flip you, i think you are right on. i cant think of the name but there was an ancient african religion based of the sun and the moon, and more so the changing of the sun and the moon, much like the interchange of yin and yang.
bagua is not a dance, u are supposed to stress balance throughout the walking, if u can do it in ur own rhythim, fine, but im not sure it will help in fighting
Ha ha, that's funny, I like your logic. You should try Ballet! They have great balance. Seriously, though-- balance is important but don't be a slave to it. It is still a mystery how we humans can walk on two very small feet. Be comfortable with ambiguity and your practice will reach a new level.
It's great there are so many people out their promoting the art. My point however is that Baguazhang really does come out of a religious dance tradition, and while the movements I do are not the actual dance sources for bagua--they are surely simular because the biology of trance is a human phenomenon, not an ethnic one.
Thank you for you kindness and respect, perhaps I was out of line and for that I apologize. I have to admit that I have a massive halo effect of many people misrepresenting African MA. that is why I travel there and do research to remove fact from fiction.
We all get angry, that's welcome here. I love dancing and fighting, I guess we have that in common. On my blog "Weakness with A Twist" I deal with this subject in more depth and I welcome your comments there. If you think I represented something falsely, convince me and I'll change it. If you are holding up a standard of authenticity, perhaps I fail it, but I'm really trying to make a point about the origins of Chinese Martial Arts.
He is not saying that Bagua is African or that there is "African bagua" rather he is comparing rhythm based Taoist trace work / shamanism to the roles of the Sangoma / Nganga / Inyanga and other masters of African divination, magic and healing. He is noting that the intrinsic nature of Bagua is to possess rhythm that brings a change in mind state just as the dancing and drumming of African religion does. H
Sorry for the ramblings and anger, but I have been to South Africa put in the time to learn Afrian MA. Too many of us black people lie about what it is, I lost it when I see this crap.
I love it....they just keep getting better. You gotta get those pants off your shoji screen(back ground) , it's upsetting my sense of 'Feng shuai'!I keep expecting them to kick you on your circle-walk!
Oh... no...
Sometimes a beating is a very positive, healthy thing.
In actual martial arts, a sound beating is a holy litmus for....
You know what? Never mind. You're doing a great job. Keep it up.

Hey that was alot of fun!! your moves at the end!!
I was stimulated by your talk of those not allowed to trance. They are the guides and protectors!

You have a very interesting take on the philosophy, I'm glad it works for you.
Very unique.

hey, baguazhang was taught to students who brought new flavors to it- maybe this is a new one.
I'll stick to what I've trained in though- creating momentum in my movement and striving for speed while grounded
keep it up
