  • Did they add backup power fo the lights so they don't go out when the connection is lost? I'm glad they kept the bell and the center opening doors. I hate the slab doors on the M7s and the beeping. Also, I've never been on one, but I heard some got seat colors similar to the M7s. I love M-3s, and as much as I prefer the way they look pre-rebuild, this is not bad at all.

  • @alexweb8

    Response:

No to "backup power". Agree. Agree. Agree. Agree. Agree.

  • I made a video of the 9:55 A.M. semi-express train to North White Plains I took back to Crestwood showing an interior car tour of 6 M3-As. 2 of them were not rebuilt and 4 of them are rebuilt.

  • @mattkac1

yup....the entire fleet hasn't been finished yet....

  • There are also more rebuilt M3As with blue and green seats

  • There are also more rebuilt M3As with a different design. They can run to Crestwood and terminate there. They have blue and green seats instead of blue and orange seats.

  • @mattkac1

Um........each and EVERY car on the METRO NORTH ROSTER is cabable of running to and turning at Crestwood......now, What were we talking about again????

  • I like it

  • whats up with the ny mets/knicks colored seats lmao!!!

  • @retroguy1976

Trying to make the Mets fans feel a little less shitty on the way home from a crushing Mets loss at Yankee Stadium station........ LOL

  • @nhlives haha

  • LIRR M3's are the original design thats why they look the way they do. the metro north M3's you see in this vid probably looked very similar to what the LIRR M3's look like now before going through the overhaul renovation

  • @ENTERTAINMENT35

actually our interiors even pre-rebuild looked quite different then the LI's but I kno what you mean....

  • mnrr is looking more like the lirr, ugh!!

  • Everything you need, nothing you don't. A practical design that will get many more years of use. An all around great railcar. They're just a BITCH to switch with!!!!

  • love these trains, but the door chimes are annoying when the doors close.

    : ]

  • PROCK8947.....that's the whole idea.....the m7's you cant even hear....

  • PROCK8947.....Thats the whole idea.....You can't even the the chimes on the dumb m7's

  • What a Great Overhaul! Seats and interior look brand new.Questions? What is the purpose of the short back aisle seats? What year were these first put into service? Great Video!! Thanks..H.A.

  • The short backed aisle seats were in these cars since built new in 1983. They allow the aisle feel "wider" affording easier passage while still providing greatly needed additional seating.

  • The doors look like the door on the NYC subways.

  • I wonder why they arent rebuilding the LIRR M3's

  • What did the operator say at 1:12?

  • "Once again passengers: final stop, final stop. Don't forget your belongings, watch your step getting off, enjoy the rest of the evening."

That was clear as a bell, you couldn't make that out on your own?

  • Ive been on these

  • i rode home on them today on #755

  • mets colors much

  • they should have a more subway-like door chime, not one that sounds like a school bell

  • I strongly disagree. This IS NOT THE SUBWAY so no it need not sound like the subway. If you are smart enough to read a time table you are smart enough to know what the bell means. If not - well then swipe you metrocard and wait.

  • I remember the first time i got on one of these back in July at GCT i was like HOLY SHIT.

I cant imagine walking into one of those with a hangover.

  • As a Yankee Fan. getting on these at the new Yankee Stadium station after a bunch of Beers as we beat the Red Sox would certainly tempt me to throw up ALL OVER the new seats...... I dunno, slowly I think I may be converting to liking, or at least not hating the Mets. I mean hey, now that Piazza's gone, and Randolph is gone they're not completely fucking pathetic!

  • aw man. the red, blue, and beige are classic now. but i like the new cushions though. the yellow is nice. the new paint schemes on that locomotive with the blue with the red stripe on the bottom looks good.

  • The new paint scheme applied to the Genny's is definitely a vast improvement over the old "g-string". It sucks that they chose to make the nose so dark, but otherwise, I like it! That paintscheme also looks much better on the BL20GHs then the 'pseudo-New Haven' abortion of a paint scheme does....

  • Its like the M7A interior

  • huh???? No its not - its nothing like an M7A interior. This doesn't have narrower seat widths, reduced leg room, high-back seats with improperly engineer head support. This car also offers commuters convenience outlets just like all the other M1/M3 cars which the M7A doesnt offer...............

  • @nhlives The M7 (at least on the LIRR) actually does offer two outlets each under the PBCO/SBCO/BCO palels near the vestibules

  • are those new seats?

  • yes, well new cushions anyway. the plastic and metal seat frames are the same, but the old blue, red and beige cushions have been replaced with these new colors.

  • aww. the red and blues were better. more classical. but the blue and yellow fits perfectly though. the yellow is nice at the end with the blue. I wonder how they painted the new acheme on that locomotive with the blue and the red stripe. that is so cool.

  • Bring back the Pullman MU's

  • Amen, and for that matter the St Louis ones too! I wish I had a means to make my VHS into digital so I could post some ACMU video because there is almost none on YouTube.

  • the seats look like ferris wheel seats

  • I like

  • this train looks ever more uglyer.

  • THIS coming from the kid who loves M7As. Humf. I'm not a mets fan and I like these rebuilds....

  • nahh yo this one is pretty. the lirr one is pretty darn ugly

  • @moman1208: LIRR M3's are the original design thats why they look the way they do. the metro north M3's you see in this vid probably looked very similar to what the LIRR M3's look like now before going through the overhaul renovation

  • Nice. I rode in 8099 once and the ride was smooth, it was well-lit, and it had that "new car" smell =)

  • so was i

i thot it was wierd tho even tho i have been in LIRR 9894 before

  • This is what they should do to the M2s instead of scrapping them. They still work well.

  • I agree, except that they are 10-12 years older and do really need alot of work to survive another 10 years. They should be rebuilt completely, but eh... The thing I am worried about is that with the M8s coming, once the M2s are out of service the M4 and M6 fleets will become orphans as they will be the "back burner" fleet. Remember they are both pretty small fleets, and they are both quite new. The M4s are 1986 and the M6s are 1994-5. Too bad the M8s weren't ordered to be compatible with M4/6s.

  • Amtrak still uses a ton of equipment that was built in the 70s. I love the idea of getting new equipment, but for one, half of the new equipment purchased is a piece of junk (NJT has some really good new equipment though), and two, I think track quality is top priority at this point (as long as MNRR can maintain equipment like Amtrak has). What's done is done though. I'm just stating my opinion on what should've been done.

  • I agree with you - and you make good points, but lets both face it - Amtrak's Amfleets (from the 70s) are OVERDUE for replacement. Here on MN track quality has slowly but steadily been slipping for the last 10 years or so. I would say that the railroad was in TIP TOP shape (compared to any other time in its existance) in ~1999-2000. But since.....not so much. Tons of mud pumps and soft spots, debris littered and cluttered ROW, rail kinks, etc abound...

  • the lites still blink lol. they have one of these on the lirr the numbers are 9893-4

  • This is what they should've done for M7 interiors.

  • Getting rid of that nasty old 80's wood paneling makes the inside look so much brighter.

  • it does modernize the look of them and make them look brighter but I'm not sure if I like it or not yet. Haven't had enough time on them yet.....

  • They got rid of the wooden interior. :( It looks like more like an m7. At least they still kept the bell. :)
