Waynes have always been my favorite, and Ford did make one heck of a bus chassis. I like the look of this combo, but I only ever see Wayne/Internationals in my area.
I remember riding the Wayne Ford school bus chassis back in 1995, but it was 40ft long. The engines I remember hearing on those buses were the Cummins turbo diesel engine and the Caterpillar 3208 engine with either the Allison AT-540 or 545. The very first school bus I ever rode on was the Wayne GMC/Chevrolet school bus chassis with the GM 366 gas engine and the Allison AT-540. One of them I rode before has a 5 speed manual. Excellent find!
@baul104 The Ford bus chassis never used the 3208, they did use the GM built 8.2L fuel pincher V8 diesel. That was back in the 80s. They also used a gasoline powered 370CI v8. in 1988, they started using the indestructable Brazilian Ford/New Holland 6.6L I6 turbodiesel. They did sound a lot like cummins. Wish they would have kept the 6.6L and the 7.8L, they didn't pass the EPA in the later 90s. They smoked a lot when cold.
@gajda1984 , the Ford bus chassis did use the 3208 in the B7000 model. They are hard to find though. The 3208 had 10.4L, whereas the Detroit was an 8.2 of course and was the B700 model.
Sad that Ford no longer makes a bus chassis. All we have now are International Wards, Freightliner Thomases, and Blue Birds with the weird sloping snout.
U know, it would be awesome that if someone could actually restore any of those great classic buses for a bus company whenever they need a backup bus.
is this still for sale
