  • 0:50..his face...magic moment of music, big up Chico!

  • Pure magic!

  • When he smiles, you can see why he got all the girls.

  • So the story goes, Billy the Kid would whistle this tune before he killed someone...

  • @lee306V6. last night, my mother and i were watching "Animal Crackers" --- when this song came on, my mother began singing along with the music. it is called, "Silver Threads Among the Gold." btw. that is the perfect way to bring in the new year --- watching the Marx Brothers. : )

  • 1:07 - 1:16 it's MAGIC

  • silver threads among the gold is the tune, but jazzed up.better late than never huh?

  • i love the look on Chico's face when he gets to the jazzy part. It's like he's saying, "Yup. I know I'm awesome."

  • I love this way he plays piano <3 (= I love the Marx Brothers ( :

  • 0.48 love that smile... totally natural

  • "Silver Threads Among the Gold" so tender and loving....goosebumps every time!!!

  • This is definitely "Silver threads among the gold", just in a typical playful Chico-fashion.

  • Anybody know where i can find these works on MP3??

  • @bsd300d just convert them. type in "video to mp3" on Google and you'll find several converter sites. takes a few seconds to convert and download.

  • He originally started playing with only his right hand and fake playing with his left, as his teacher did so herself. Chico eventually got a better teacher and learned to play the piano correctly. As a young boy, he got jobs playing piano to earn money for the Marx family. Sometimes Chico even got work playing in two places at the same time. He would acquire the first job with his piano-playing skills, work for a few nights, and then substitute Harpo on one of the jobs.

  • yes , you guessed right, My 88 - year old grandmother has sang excerpts of tis song to me for years. She said that her father, my great- grandfather( who passed in 1978 at the age of 82), used to sing "Silver Threads..." to my great grandmother when my gramma was a young girl and teen.

  • Chico is so young!!!!

  • one of the best pianists of all time, with a style all his own

  • There has never been, nor will ever be, a comedy team to equal the Marx Brothers.

They were genius! And though Groucho was totally brilliant, I've always been so in love with Chico! You read all the books about them; he was the oldest son, the bad boy, and Minnie's favorite. He could grab your heart with one hand while he was emptying your wallet with the other.

The Marx Brothers will never be topped. NEVER!!

  • To confirm my point; he did not fake it, he just didn't practice with it and concentrated on his right hand, subsequently meaning its better than the left

  • OMG!! Faked or not... one of my all time favorite musical moments!! I jus LOVE IT! :-)

  • This is a great artist - nothing faked here, try it you'll be practicing more than you know

  • i've got an actual piano, but i can't play very well atm. i'm learning tho

  • I knew that the left hand was fake, I think it belonged to a guy name Joe...ohh you a make a no sense,

  • He was a brilliant pianists, one of the first of his time.

  • What do you mean he faked his left hand?

  • There is some truth (though not much) as chico never really learnt to play with his left hand all that well. That said it's still god to be amazing music.

  • Got - or a slip of Freudian? Frign' clown - were you there? He was crucifiied NOT playing with his left hand. Perhaps why he uses it less. Pretty good (God) editing.

  • which program did you use to capture this scene?

  • It was cut from an AVI file with VirtualDubMod

  • For someone who fake the left hand, he sure seems to use it quite a bit.

  • he only faked the left hand as an earlier player, for the vast majority of his playing (such as in this movie) he learned to use it :)

  • Comment removed

  • When I watch Chico perform pianic wonders, i'm always impressed by his genius, but frustrated because i can't play piano.

  • i know how you feel...me too

  • I love the Marx Brothers as if they where my own family :)

  • ah.....what a charmer

and look at the other chicks checking him out x) <3 chico!

  • wonder if his piano teacher nearly 100 years ago imagined people would still be listening to her pupil?

  • His original teacher couldn't play with her left hand, so she faked it, as did he.

He had to learn how to properly play from someone else.

  • Yep but Harpo was the one I think that faked it, I could be wrong. Love Chico, he is my fave, that boyish charm i guess

  • It was Chico who originally faked as he was taught by his teacher who faked herself (as AlexKing mentioned); Harpo learned what he could from Chico and eventually amassed a reptoire of two one-finger pieces :D

  • oh yes vaude you and AlexKing are correct!

  • HA HA vaude "Harpo eventuall amassed a reptoire of two on-finger pieces" LOLOLOL great, funny way to put it!!

  • According to Harpo, Chico and his piano teacher didn't like each other very much, lol. Hey, ya never know who you might be teaching!

  • phrase at 1:12-1:16 is amazing

  • does anyone know the name of this composition?

  • As I wrote in the Info area this might be Silver Threads Among the Gold, or some piano arrangement to be more precise, but in all honesty Im not sure. Ive gotten the name of the song from a Wikipedia link about this movie. At the bottom of the page there was a list of music/songs featured in the film and this was the most likely title.

If someone knows for sure which song is Chico playing please share the info. I would greatly appreciate it.

  • You're absolutely correct about the song. The opening lines (and follow along with the tune if you want!) are, "Darling, I am growing o-old, Silver threads among the gold".

  • he refers to it as a composition by victor herbert

  • @lee306V6 Silver Threads Among The Gold.

  • No wonder he was the best at getting the chicks.

  • Thanks for posting this, this is one of my favourite scenes in the movie. Any time Chico plays I am mesmerized.

  • thank you for posting this
