  • that sad about esetaban sister never been in love. nobody is kind to her. spent her life taking care of her mother. that probaly has happend in real life to someone

  • it's not like the book - but well movie is always a different space! Meryl Streep, Armin Müller-Stahl, Vanessa Redgrave, Jeremy Irons, Winona Ryder, Antonio Banderas...all are fantastic in that movie...especially Meryl...I love how she is acting Clara...so sensitive and beautiful...she looks stunning!

  • @Ninetailboy1 I don't suggest that they took ALOT out of the movie and they switched events so still read the book or at least sparknote it

  • -.- I think ill watch the movie instead of reading the book >:] fastest way to finish school work

  • also um the Del Valles were NOT all blonde and fair skinned... they are MOORISH and SPANISH. clara did not have blonde hair. yes Rosa had green hair and the family is lighter skinned than others... but they were still not white. i always pictured them looking somewhere between arabic and really fair skinned Spanish. i think the cartoon drawing on the paperback of the book does justice to how Clara and Esteban would look. ...oh and Winona Ryder is actually kinda similar to how I saw Blanca

  • my goodness this isn't how i pictured ANY of the characters! meryl streep comes close but it's no cigar. is that supposed to be Nana? not at all! and esteban should look much meaner and behave in a much more irritable manner. ALSO i agree the casting is slightly racist!

  • que fue con barrabas?

    y las hermanas mora?

  • i just read the book and now i'm watching the movie. I'm actually pretty impressed

  • what happened to uncle marcos?

  • La Paloma - Rosita Serrano ♥

  • what a dooche-bag..why marry a man like that?

  • clara is just so sweet,so pure.

  • No Barrabas?

  • @xrockislife3016x this is a good point, his role may have been minor but still, big enough

  • glenn close and meryl streep! whooohooo!

  • Would've been nice if there had been actual latino or spanish-speaking actors in the principal roles. Hollywood whitewashing at its best.

  • @tommyburgos actually, the character were latin, but still the del Valle family was white and blonde. Rosa and Alba even had green hair and pale skin (almost albino). The only think that is kinda racist is that only the serves speak in spanish...

  • @johlu515: Hi! I know that they were pale-skinned and fair-haiired, but they were still latino. Here we had an amazing book, epic in scope, which could have been a great film that also served as a fantastic showcase for actual latino actors. The worst part of it was that the only parts they cast with actual latin-american people were servants and the prostitute, quite racist, in my opinion.I really wish some Spanish producers/investors had bought the rights to the book before Hollywood did.

  • @tommyburgos I've always wondered why there isn't a chilean version!? I mean, now in days even open tv series are filmed in HD, and there is a bunch of good chilean actors that can give a lot more realism to this history in a new movie. But it seems that the book got more popular outside the country it was wrote about =S

  • What is the name of the music at 2:51?

  • Close fits the book's Ferula absolutely perfectly! Both my favourite actresses in the same film ^^

  • Comment removed

  • why are they all white? :/

  • @annamee22 Por que la alta aristocrasia Chilena era desendientes de Europeos Alemanes, Britanicos(Irlandeses, Escoceses), Franceses, Croatas, Italianos y Españoles.

  • The filmmakers did not keep that atmosphere of the book. It lost its feel and unfortunately it shows. Everything just looks staged and the actors are too over the top. Not a natural flow at all.

  • is it a horror?

  • IT'S OBVIOUS THAT THE MOVIE IS AMAZING. AND THE BOOK EVEN MORE. BUT THEY ARE NOT ALIKE, SO YOU CANNOT COMPARE THEM.

  • Wo wo wo hold on hold on! (3:16 Clara spoke after long time). That's not the way it happens on the book.

¡A ver a ver a ver a ver! (3:16 Clara habló después de mucho tiempo). Así no pasa en el libro.

  • This movie is very good and the cast is amazing. But it would be much better to make a new version (in Spanish), this book can't be translated to any other language, is like translating Sheakspeare... not acceptable. If you like the movie you will LOVE the book, it's very difrent and much better. But you have to read it in Español "La Casa De Los Espíritus". Don't you agree? ¡Aunque el elenco es increíble!, sería mejor una versión en español y apegada al libro. Saludos desde Monterrey, N.L. =)

  • um...isnt clara supposed to be like 15 in this scene???????

  • Ferula was depicted to faithful to the book here, when she met Clara I cried my eyes out. Poor Ferula, after all she was indeed a good woman, she just never knew how to treat her brother or deal with her own frustration.

  • WOW! Glenn Close and Meryl Streep in the same film in a scene together. Two wonderful actresses.

  • clara never loved her husband

  • @mea979db yes she did...in her way...have you read the book?

  • Glenn Close is a brilliant actrice! one of the great ones! In my opinion she does the best part in this movie.

  • @Fetestet I agree she is a fantasiv actress! #LOL

  • lol Clara definitely did not kiss Esteban when he came to ask to marry her...

  • i love this movie

  • Where is Barrabas?

  • I'm not gonna lie, this movie is friggen weird. I'm rewatching it anyways haha.

  • meryl is so beautiful in this

  • They fit that massive mother in that tiny coffin?

  • @Sansash01202 jajajaj yes jajajaj

  • @Sansash01202 Cremation? Or maybe the movie ran out of money to buy a massive-sized one.

But....if not those two reasons than what else?

  • the look she gives him at 9:06 is full of such innocence and wonder and especially love. Meryl does an amazing job in this movie! <3

  • and by far more fantastic book!

  • i find meryl's character so refreshing and comforting. she says all the right things to esteban's sister, exactly what she needs to here, and in such a warm and charming way.

  • @studio54jojo

yes, I think the same... Fantastic film!

    And fantastic acresses!!!

  • @studio54jojo It's just marvellous how warm this character is - I could watch it over and over again. It's some form of nourriture..

  • @studio54jojo i find meryl's character refreshing and comforting too :) and she does indeed say all the right things to estebans sister and they are the things she needs to hear and she says them in such a warm and loving way (: <3
