The guns confiscated were gas powered and use a very realistic bolt mechanism, so thats probably why they were confiscated. But to actually convert one youd have to change out all the parts (buy them in the first place) barrel etc. Its just ridiculous, and a load of bs

But Alex should know that he is speaking of low-end airsoft guns as higher-end airsoft guns such as mine fire .28g bb's at 375 FPS. Those do in fact HURT even at longer distances. The bb's shows here are .12g bb's and are only good for walmart/big5 airsoft guns.

Also, if someone wanted to convert one to fire real rounds (safely) it would be unfeasible as purchasing an actual real-steel firearm would be cheaper and more effective. You have a better chance of converting a blank firing gun and even then it would not be feasible.

Converted? I am an airsoft gun tech and I can say with absolute certainty that an airsoft gun cannot be converted to fire "real-steel" bullets.

well, you obviously cant use airsoft for real bullets because it is basicaly an airgun.. not one part of it is suitable for bullets. nowhere to put them, the barrel is too narrow, it is absolutely impossible.. and the pressure it can generate is pretty ridiculous. if you shoot someone from more than 50-60 yards distance there is a good chance he wont even feel it if he is wearing a jacket.. the only dangerous thing is to shoot someone in theye from 10 yards or closer.

Just looked at some pictures of the airsoft rifles that alex is talking about, I can't tell the difference in the photo between the toy rifles they seized and the m-4 carbine I used while I was in the army. Even says they are the same size and weight as the real ones. Though I doubt the material used is the same,so I don't think you could retrofit them to fire real rounds without taking some of the important parts off of a real m-4, m-16 or ar-15.
