Its not "Never attempt buggy wheel spins on a frozen lake" its make sure the lake is properly frozen before you drive you buggy onto it. Where I am from its generally safe to drive on the lakes and rivers IF you are smart about it. vehicles sink every year but its usually the drivers fault. Its rarely happens on any of the "roads" across the river its always people driving off by themselves.

@JuliuStorm Actually, driving motorized vehicles on ice is in some parts of the world a popular sports, rally speedway etc, altough i recommend that you drill the ice and check how thick it is, jumping on it a couple of times is not the best way to know if its gonna hold.

And i dont think these guys are especially rich, i think their movie production has a budget and they got this on tape and will therefore probably be able to use it their movie or whatever and will that way get the money back.
