X170 isn't bad, but really struggles in conditions with low levels of contrast. Just made a short ski movie with it and on the cloudy days you can't pick out as much as I'd like. Should show up as the first video on my channel if you're interested in seeing the results.
@arson519 I do. There's no place to store the camera and it's especially important with these type of cameras, as it is too easy to scratch the lens. Instead of providing a useless box that's impossible to open and then gets thrown away, they could easily make it something worthwhile and add value to the product by making a box so the camera could be stored in it. Pretty foolish if you ask me.
@wbwvids im with you. I keep the boxes for everything, they stack easily and protect your purchases from every day uglies like dust, bumps/drops and nosey friends that always want to touch things.
@FloridaKiteboarding Thanks, I added the full link also in the description for this video, I didn't realize it was missing. Don't know why YouTube doesn't allow URL's in the comments...
lets say u wanna take a picture. do both of them have the feature to take pics. i plan on making a video in banf alberta canada this summer and if i go do some gopeding i would like to take a few shots with a helmet cam. is this possible?
@wbwvids in terms of standard, this is an action camera, not really requiring a tripod, as it comes with a wealth of mounts. And using another attachment you can pivot in both directions
@EJILITY I understand. We don't use it on a tripod, but a tripod mount comes in very handy to mount the camera on the motorcycle rather than on a helmet or using the chest strap. The Drift video cameras we reviewed have a built-in standard tripod mount for this purpose, one of the reasons we liked them.
is there a suction cup mount for the drift? or willany of those other mounts work to mount the camera to a bobsled? because i ordered it, but i need something that can hold it on through a bobsled ride
The Elmo looks cool and I bet the lens could be easily mounted just about anywhere, but apparently it is not HD? I've been using the GoPro HD more lately and I like it, just wish I had a 1/4-20 mount for it, which would make it easier to mount.

yeah, I found the GoPro packaging is solely made for display for purchase rather than functionality.

Go Pro has a 15 dollar tripod mount availalble. call them
EJILITY 1 year ago
@EJILITY Yes, I bought one. But it should come standard with the camera. Also, it only articulates in one plane.

I just love my X170. Unbeatable features and nearly limitless mounting options. Even though i dont have the HD 170 I am fully satisfied.

Great review!
I'm picking up an X170 soon since I prefer the price, I don't shoot in HD and the form-factor is much better for helmet/head mounting.
Random tid-bit: The GoPro HD is used extensively on Discovery Channel's "Mythbusters".

the Elmo camera seems to be a good compromise if somewhat expensive..though not as expensive as the sony bullet

Interesting, never heard of that one, I'll have to check it out! Thanks.
