I have a theory that Mayteana Morales was forced to leave the show due to the fact she had grown so big and tall. Gaby was supposed to be one of the youngest of the group. Only about 9 years old at first, and around 10 years by this time. But she grew so much from in season 2 she looked almost like a teenager not a young kid.
A lot of people are always resistant to a new actor, especially when that new actor replaces a leaving actor's character. The new Gabby really wasn't that bad, it's that fans loved the old Gabby.
@Johnnylightning93 i read that the first gaby wanted to quit. she was missing out on too much of a private life and never saw her family/friends so it was her choice....i felt better once i found that out.
I seem to remember my sister saying years ago that she preferred this Gaby to the original. Siad she was more convincing Spanish-wise or something around those lines. I don't really prefer one over the other, but I do think this Gaby is underrated by Ghostwriter fans.
@Garrettk41 i don't understand why gaby has to be more spanish though. she was born in the us. Alex doesn't have a bigspanish accent. if you mean looks i think the other gaby looked just as spanish, just with lighter hair, but their mom (the first one) had the same colour hair as gaby so it worked
That's all true. You never know why people make these changes. But like I said, I don't really have a preference. When I watch these things, I tend to focus on who I'm watching and not think so much about who else has played the part.

We only ever saw her in two story arc's...hardly enough time to connect with her emotionally...same deal with the Casey character. I was initially skeptical when they added the Rob character into the fold, but over time, I grew to accept him. Same deal with Hector. In my opinion, the last episodes tanked not because of bad casting necessarily, but badly-written cases.
I'll bet they would have written Gaby out if they knew they would be canceled after new Gaby appeared in only two story arcs. I remember PBS made a big deal out of "welcoming" new Gaby to the show...they even did promotional spots showing how she was cast and went through auditions and stuff. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the reason the original Gaby left was because she wanted more cash and they decided she was too big for a 5th grader, so the parting was mutual. What a cliche reason!

Casey couldn't have ruined the show. She was only in about two or three. You can't ruin a show being in three shows. If you can ruin a show that fast it wasn't all that good to begin with.

The very last episode was the Slime Monster one. That's when Jamal, Lenni, and Alex graduate. They ended it there. It was a sad day in my house when I found that out....
Alex was the spanish character on this show that didn't look spanish - or sound spanish
