  • ITS HARRD TO START THINGS OOOVERR

  • This song is so perfect

  • Nothing like finding a new favorite AIC song! Love the psychedelic twist this one has.

  • I listen to this song about 10 times a day; sometimes more, since Summer 2010.

I cannot get enough of it! :)

  • 0:22 is a bad ass pic right there

  • so beautifull *-*

  • awesome video. props to whoever put it together.

  • its a shame thier flame died so quickly.. imagine if they continued w Layne? they could have put Guns N Roses & Metallica to shame....

  • @lilrockable No need to put either group- Metallica or GnR to shame. AiC in it's own right rules! :) As do other groups, who have their own personal battles against addictions!

  • This is available on Essential Alice in Chains and on the Music Bank DVD!

  • @PearlJammer07 Or you can find it on the last action hero soundtrack.

  • R I P sweet prince

  • one person is deaf

  • They all get all equal credit in my book. Yes, even Mike Starr.

  • Chris Cornell,Layne Staley,Kurt Cobain,Eddie Vedder,Jonathan Davis,Trent Reznor,Scott Weiland... ladies and gentlemen these are seven singers that are just essential to the 90s and all music in general...

  • @lilrockable dude, you forgot Linda Perry, Travis meeks and Kevin martin, no hard feeling though ;-p

  • @lilrockable dude, you forgot Phil Anselmo wtf?

  • @lilrockable hell yeah!!

  • Did they ever do this live?

  • @riptorn311 They did perform this song live. There is a clip of them playing it live here.

  • omfg i think its better than would

  • Jerry's voice is more prominent in this one

  • AIC is on a class of its own. You cannot compare them to Nirvana, soundgarden, pearl jam or any other band for that matter. They are untouchable!

  • I thought this song was on "The Last Action Hero" soundtrack ?

  • "SythDarKProductions"-fuckin' bitch

  • @tickedoffnow oh lighten up, i was joking the entire time

  • @SythDarKProductions still not funny

  • aic is better than nirvana bitches

  • @musikrammstein i like both bands man

  • @mrguitarman151 me too but i dont know, aic music is more complex, and lyrics more understandable

  • @musikrammstein yeah they are more complex thats one of the things i love about this band.

  • This time era in music sux-the only artist is Lady Gaga

but need not worry fellow Grungers-Grunge will return soon ;)

  • there are some bands that are untouchable, one of them happens to be the REAL AIC. Layne Staley as an individual is irreplaceable. not just his voice, but his influence as well

  • Layle Staley was Badass i love that leather jacket which he wear

  • Why would someone give this video a thumbs down!!!!!!!!????? There's always one in the bunch! Alice in Chains is the greatest band ever!

  • drugs seem to be the end of every good thing or person but that just me

  • Yea they rocked then and still now, even with the new singer. No one could ever truly replace the original amazing voice and talents of Layne, but they do a good job of moving on with the new guy, who sounds really good for a replacement.

  • @TheBrown55 there isnt a new singer thats the back up singer i think the new guy is the guitarist

  • @amishwitch Yes William DuVall is new main vocalist and secondary guitar, Jerry is still the guitarist an back up singer

  • @davedorger

Tool never disappoints live, eh? ;-)

  • @davedorger yea true. It's not all that shitty.

  • @davedorger Shitty generation we live in huh...?!>

  • Saw them 3 times, first time with Layne, amazing voice.

  • How is this a Remix? It sounds exactly the same.

  • @Biff947 "unreleased mix" mix not remix. as in the way the instruments wer mixed in the sonic field.

  • @Biff947 i think its not remix but its remastered . its a bit "warmer" sound

  • @Biff947 you can tell the difference in the chorus

  • @Biff947 The original 'What the hell have I" along with "A little Bitter" were released as part of the 'Last Action Hero" soundtrack. They were both remastered for the 'Music bank' Boxset reproduced by Tobey wright who produced "Jar of Flies and "selftitled'. As far as sound its slightly differently produced , a little heavier and less "tinny' sounding as Jerry put it. Overall a more harder sound and more signature Chains style.

  • @Biff947 it is a lot less tinny!

  • lol. now my ears are experiencing an orgasm.

  • Can't listen or think of Layne Staley without shedding a tear. i'm 13 and never knew or heard of him till my sisters boyfriend introduced me to them. He was tourterd soul that no one understood and Layne, a Angel or Servant of satan or where ever we go when we die will always be missed and rememberd from friend family and fans. Thanks Layne for keeping me away from Kesha lady Gaga and Justin.....whatever the hell his name is

  • LAYNE STALEY IS THE GREATEST CROONER SINCE SAMMY DAVIS JUNIOR GET OVER IT

  • Dude this is tits!! This is the AIC version right before the commercial property stepped in and told them they should sing it a half note higher,,,,,,,,,bless for posting this...... this is new AIC for me!!

  • @tasdvl9

Yep. You hear so many players go on playing as fast as they can but they leave behind the feeling and emotion. I'm not saying every fast solo doesn't have feeling or emotion but a lot of them don't. I would say every AIC solo out there has some sort of feeling and emotion to it. Mostly a dark feeling because Layne was going through some bad times. My best investment in CDs was the "Best of AIC". Lots of AIC goodies in that CD.

  • @Ne012 Incorrect son best investment would be buying all regular albums but "Music Bank" would do for you little fanboys who latched onto Alice after Staley died like a fucking cunt sponge. Do well to rock out to these, Angry Chair, Hate to feel, Would, I stay away, Heaven Beside you, Again, and "Died" Staley's last track with AIC. All written by Layne except 1!! just proves Jerrys current joke incarnate of "AIC" is nothing but a falsehood along with all you little jokers.

  • @DaveS12382 i call the "new" aic jerry cantrell with hendrix wanna be :)

  • @TwiZtidPhsycho thats a fair assesment. I actually saw the nigger when he was touring with Jerry in 01' of course that was "solo" Cantrell. Now that Jerry got Sean and Mike out playing along its"AIC" , what a fucking joke. Cantrell totally fucking sings over Duvall and overshadows him at every turn to the point of making him look like a sideman. Its fucking pathetic. As I've said before Layne Staley would be rolling over in his grave if he gave a fuck. Which he doesn't.

  • @DaveS12382 i agree lol

  • Comment removed

  • @DaveS12382 Ironic that you would deride "fanboys" while showing your cursory knowledge of the band. Cantrell wrote the music to every single AIC song other than Hate to Feel and Angry Chair. Would? was entirely his composition and Heaven Beside You was his and Inez's. Staley didn't even write the majority of the lyrics. It doesn't mean he wasnt a great singer, but AIC was and is Jerry Cantrell.

The new album is good and a reminder of his talent being wasted over the years waiting for Staley.

  • Pardon me, I forgot about Head Creeps on Alice in Chains.

  • @batigol47 oops, didn't see that. By the way, cursory, good word.

  • @batigol47 Staley also wrote the music and lyrics to "Head Creeps" and ended up writing about half the lyrics total. AIC was not just Jerry Cantrell. He was the music man and wrote some great lyrics, but he was not the frontman and signature voice of the band, that was Layne. You could argue all day long over who was more important, sort of like Lennon/McCartney. I like to consider them equals who complemented eachother nicely. I agree the band was sidelined by Staley's drug addiction.

  • @batigol47 I'm pretty sure Man In The Box was Staley as well.

  • @pangborn25 He wrote lyrics to man in the box, but not music. That was Cantrell.

  • @davedorger what the hell does this comment have to do with me? lol

  • doesnt matter if you like aic or nirvana, everyone has another music taste and should respect others, anyone who says something different has no idea of music and shouldnt post some fucking hater comments

    sry for my english

  • Please check out our tribute to AiC and Layne Staley by viewing our video response. I've brought together 5 musicians from across the country to cover this song. This isnt just about us. We're also trying to promote Staley's memorial fund. (LayneStaleyFund[dot]com)

Views, subscribes, favorites and likes would be greatly appreciated. And keep in mind that we're doing this as a tribute. Keep the comments kind in nature, please. Thanks in advance for anything you can do to contribute to the cause!

  • I find it funny how everyone hates nirvana when theres no comparison but I can truely say your all wrong nirvana was great back then you may have heard there songs way to much but Back when I first heard them I loved it just like AIC so many songs I can listen to and for one They looked at life differently

  • I love this song.

  • nirvana is shit. aic rules

  • @tasdvl9 agree Jerry was great solo. He never got the recognition he deserved either in AIC or his solo career! IMO, he is up there with Dimebagg as far as talent goes. Loved JC solo and his riffs are always classic and recognizable

    RIP LAYNE

  • @leonel1993

The thing is that they sacrifice a little when they devote all their musical prowess to the technical aspects of guitar (i.e. sweep picking, tapping, etc.). Jerry Cantrell did an interview where he said there was a point in his career where he could have been a great soloist but he stuck with song writing and melodies instead. I think it paid off great for him.

  • I really like how the video ends with the AIC sun logo. I can't believe how amazing Layne was as an artist. I hope someday a book is made that includes full color pictures of all or most of his art work.

  • Over 4.5 million sheep have died in Mongolia due to a freak and unprecedented extension in freezing temperatures. How many planes have been sent with food to assist this ancient and noble people? (Aramis Deceives) Donate to Red Cross.

  • it has such an ancient melodic element like some ancient middle-east or persin style influence. I wonder what influence inspired this music from AIC. Obvious talent notwithstanding, just in the evoluition of a band. Some re-invent and blow their whole identity, and some just flow.

  • @dkmattkey I have heard that Layne was into Egyptian art.

  • @leonel1993 true maybe, but guys like Petrucci, Vai, Malsteen or whatever the fuck his name is, wail out on the guitar like their gods from another world. while thats cool, it dosent translate over to great classic songs that remain timeless. Nothin against Beyonce, ya heard.

  • this is simply a sick riff. siccck. OHHHH WHY CANT PEOPLE SEE THE EPICNESS OF AIC? and yes i said epicness

  • You could not be MORE CORECT!!!

  • @leonel1993 Has John Petrucci made as many classic songs as Jerry? Nuff said...

  • ok what the fuck is poodle metal? anyplace with poodles probably sucks, poodles that play metal-well that must be LSD.

  • With being friends with layne. There is a presence that he was. Kurt had a different aura about him that you could feel too. AIC was a different approach of sound and complex composure of 4 verses 3 for nirvana. I will not put a band of either calliber down. Look at each contributing and unfortunately we lost 2 amazing musicians that should still be here

  • @malikiesands1 what the hell does verses have to do with this argument? AIC was far and above the band that nirvana was. plain and simple.

  • @malikiesands1 dude you didnt know any layne staley j/k. i just wanted to use that line like they used in coming to america in the barbershop scene about knowing frank sinatra. you were reluctant to know the great and tortured soul known as layne staley may he rest in peace and hopefully has found leviity wherever his soul is. . AIC!!!!

  • @afpmx wat. the. fuck. that just makes me want to try heroin.

  • @SythDarKProductions Layne would be ashamed of you-He knew that he was fucked up-u think he'd want a "fan" to be just like him with an addiction?

  • @tickedoffnow I CANT WAIT TO GO HOME AND SNORT HEROIN OBVIOUSLY ITS WHAT THE MUSIC WANTS ME TO DO.

  • @malikiesands1 well spoken

  • AIC rules but nirvana sucks dick

  • Yep.

  • jerry sang just as much as layne almost dude therefore he did the same thing as kurt but 20 times better

  • great song that the radio stations to play 100 times a day, thank god for that.

  • This song never gets played in my city.

  • Shit man, where do you live? The only songs of theirs that are on the radio here (and rarely) are their "hits" like Man in the Box, Sea of Sorrow, Got me Wrong, Check my Brain, Your Decision, and I Stay Away. I mean, that's an awesome selection but I've always wanted to here What the Hell Have I or Rain When I Die on the air.

  • I live in Kansas City, Missouri, where poodle-metal is played everyday. It sucks here.

  • hahahhaha

I live in KCMO as well and KC radio SUCKS

  • @Laurnen816 Why do they still play emo and poodle-metal here?

  • @Duraan84 hahahahahah

I live in KCMO as well and I agree with you KANSAS CITY radio sucks!

  • this remix is on music bank.

  • sooooo awesome

  • intro reminds me of Heart Shaped box in a way

  • kurts riffs dont compare to master jerrys

  • Hell No... Nirvana can't even Touch AIC.

  • are both two ancestral bands.. flow together in my mind.. the greatest bands ever

  • I Think AIC is one of the greatest bands ever but i think nirvana is OK at best.

  • i just don't know why everyone slaughters nirvana on the comments of say Aic, soundgarden and other grunge bands. it gets on my nerves!

  • It's simply because SIMPLETONS have very close mind-sets. They think musical prowess is what makes music good. It's so easy for them to say like Yngwie Malmsteen is better than Kurt Cobain or some shit like that. I compared Nirvana to The Beatles and I still will, 2 weeks later. Others compare the musical and songwriting geniuses of both bands. Do me a favor and scroll down and give me thumbs up. It's time to fix my 5 thumbs down. Thanks.

  • lol. thumbs up!

  • I don't think you can give me thumbs up on the one I wanted it on. I have 5 of them and the little voting hands are unclickable. Fuck all those motherfuckers who thumbed me down. I know I'm smarter than them in my deepest feelings. They can go to hell. You're cool, though.

  • cool!!!! I'll send you a friend request.

  • Because Nirvana claimed all the fame and were clearly the least musically talented. Kurt Cobain's voice was the worst of the Seattle bands and he was OBVIOUSLY the worst guitarist.

Cantrell is one of the most versatile and talented guitarists and songwriters in the last 30 years, and Staley's vocals/lyrics are unmatchable.

AiC literally have zero bad songs. Nirvana has a number of songs that are straight up garbage.

I'm sorry that's the truth and it may sting.

  • True on every level.

  • @xbeeradx That's the magical part of Alice in Chains. I still can't believe how every song is a good one.

A lot of people make a big deal that they only made 3 studio albums, but when each song is a gem, it's worth 10 albums or more of lesser bands.

  • yeah, because they're all the way on top and aic is on the bottom. LOL!!!!! I'm just kidding. I love both bands.

  • cause Kurt was the unique guitar player and the 'main' voice.. Jerry is the second voice.. he got time to do great riffs

  • @johnny891000 That's a VERY important point when it comes to comparing Alice in Chains and Nirvana. To me, they are apples and oranges.

  • One word that sums up the Seattle scene... Yeaaaaahh! Cornell, Staley, Cobain could all turn that word into a song, lol. I miss them all.

  • everything layne love you

  • this was from when the music was so good that crappy movies would hire bands to contribute songs....how else would you know the movie? here,s what i remember about it...swarzenegger and AIC.

  • What an amazing band to contribute this awesome song and "A Little Bitter" which is even better (and one of the craziest songs I can think of, about Staley's dad and how he hooked him) to a random movie soundtrack.

  • a "random" movie? Dude...

    Arnold > AIC

  • Agreed 100%

  • it might as well be the same, i noticed no difference either. maybe it is the bass

  • what's the difference?

  • Sounds like the LAH version, very close, but I love it either way! One of their best songs. I miss Layne and I'm not even a fan, per se. Just a great singer and tragic loss

  • This is one of their best songs. Shame it's not on any of their albums. It's on the Last Action Hero soundtrack.

That opening guitar lick is so infectious. It makes the entire song. My favorite part is at the end. "All the time...what the hell have I?...little pride." It sounds so calming after quite a bouncy ride.

  • Yeah, sometimes it's a bass riff making the song come together but this has a good pacing beat as well as they best intro!!

  • @SteveElMonk86

It is on The Essential Alice in Chains which any AIC fan should own. It has pretty much all of their classics and greatist hits on a 2 CD set for a total of 28 songs. Best 15 bucks I ever spent on music.

  • favourite singer, along with eddy vedder and anthony kiedis

  • u don't get born again from last action hero s\track fool.. get born again was relaeased in 1998 with died . last action hero sooundtrack was in 1994 with " fear the voices" an this song.

  • no it was a little bitter not fear the voices

  • Best band ever.

  • alice were amazing, no other words for it

    RIP LAYNE

  • why dont my friends like aic? they are spiritual and my replacment to god for me. wtf?

  • yeah bro not freakin kurt cobain

  • alice in chains is not grunge, monkey...

they just took nirvana's ride... like many others....( i don't mean thy meant it!!)

    :)

  • funny how they got signed to a majour label and realesd a album on one b4 nirvana.....but they just took there ride =S

  • funny how i never had heard of grunge or seatlle bf4 nirvana....oh and alice in chains, yeah, they are from seatlle, u know? coffee and nirvana?

    that's the point.....

  • @T0WER0FPlGS dude whats your fucking problem , if anything kurt looked up to AIC, and you're fucking slandering him while the bands respected each other. Hate that fucking faggot James Hetfield for making fun of Layne's heroin addiction while in concert, but leave a grunge legend out of it. And you make Layne look like he competed with Kurt , stfu you honestly make no sense

  • @mrcartmanis18 Hes still gay! haha

  • @T0WER0FPlGS nice response you inbred.took you real long huh? Kurt was the face of grunge , while Alice in Chains didn't want to be known as that and had a mixed style , they have man in the box , again and other heavier songs. Nirvana defined grunge , but Alice in Chains was an overall better band, you know nothing go die or rot somewhere

  • @mrcartmanis18 ok you stupid fag monkey :P

  • there is a slight drumming difference. I synced the two songs and at certain parts I thought the timing was off but it was just a slightly different drum beat. Like the original more. Was there ever a single of the original? or do i have to buy one of the greatest hits to get the original?

  • A single was released, the original you can find on the Last Action Hero soundtrack or from Nothing Safe...

  • Just buy the Last Action Hero soundtrack, that way you get "Get Born Again" as well.

  • I think you might mean "A Little Bitter".

  • I must have.

  • A Little Bitter is probably the #2 song they did behind Would? I cannot believe it was not an album track.

  • Last Action Hero

  • RIP Layne...

  • R.I.P. Layne Staley!!!

  • Had they not upped the volume on the Cantrells back-up vocals, this would have been better..

  • doesnt layne look just like that kid in Martian Child(john Cusack movie)

  • holy shit lol

  • I don't really like the remix..

  • The snare drums sounds more sharper too, then the original.

  • whats the differnts??!!

  • The remix version has a more prominent bass line, Jerry's vocals are a bit louder, and obviously a much louder tamborine. You can the remix version on Disc 3 of their Music Bank set. Honestly being a bassist I prefer the remix version over the original.
