  • your lucky the tailfin didnt break

  • the MD-80's are a great aircraft...too bad they're not gonna be around much longer...but i have had some great rides on them...from 20-30 min. segments to about 3hrs.

  • alaska airlines got rid of them. now it is american's turn

  • uhmm.. Did you record this on your phone?

  • This is one of the best MD80 videos on Youtube. Great approach, and the sound is great too. Nice to hear those engines spooling up on auto throttle during the base turn to adjust the speed according to ATC instructions.

  • gosh... i really missed those MadDogs!!!!!

    thank you for the video!

  • nice video!

  • Nice vid.. I'm planning on flying one of these, and this might sound weird. But, when sitting in seat 22A on the MDC MD80, does it sound like a Boeing 737?

    Thanks!

  • It depeneds where you sit on the 737, but I reckon it would be whinier and with a louder reverse thrust. Why do you ask?

  • @WiiVideoFan2007 It depends on whether it is an older or newer 737. The 737-100 and 200 series planes had JT8D low-bypass turbofan engines just like the MD80. The newer 737-300 and all currently manufactured 737's use the GE CFM56 high-bypass turbofan. Very different sound.

  • Bit of a hard landing there. The MDs are not easy planes to land...

  • every plane is difficult to land.

  • I do not agree on the fact that MD's are difficult to land. Hard landings can be the result of weather or pilot skills or a combination of them. Some pilots who are quite good, prefer to land harder and others have the soft touch...it is most of the times the man not the machine

  • Correction: The name of the airport is Seattle-Tacoma International. Also known as Seatac Airport. Great video though...

  • no ksea is right it can be seattle internal or seatac airport but it is all so ksea as a code name for the airport.

  • He is talking about the ICAO code used by pilots. Seattles is KSEA.

  • its just like how the ICAO code for San Francisco International Airport is KSFO

  • was the coach cabin leather

  • The Airbuses are quieter still IMHO compared to the Boeing aircraft.

  • like the 734's

  • lol imagine sitting on the very back seat of the MD-80

    that would be even louder!

  • I went to the Phillipines on 2004 at hong kon int and we have to sit in th back of a 747. It was sweating hot!!!

  • that happened to me on a Boeing 777 out of Denver.

  • "electronic devices must now be turned off and stowed away" LOL

  • landing in seattle is one of the more senic landings in my opinion

  • It's actually 16C. They are building a new runway at KSEA. It's almost complete....

    Great video!

  • u know when u touch down, its not the speed that makes all the noise, its the reverse thrust(so noisy):P

  • I've been reading an articles about Fokker 100's performance actually they're much better than MD-80's and 90's series because of their wings design and engines...

  • were you flying in on runway 34R(L) or 16L(R)?

  • 16L(R)

  • yea, as soon as i commented, i looked at this compared this with a FSX shot of the airport and as soon as i did that, i was like "oopsie thats a 16R approach. LOL!

  • yea me too, its just that Alaska dumps em all by october which really sucks

  • I love the md-80! notice how their landings are always hard!

  • i remember when i landed in greece on the a330-300 air transat nice video

  • I loooooove loud airplanes. :)

  • me too

  • why.?

  • why.?

  • I just loved the sound of that JT engines

  • Gosh, what a noisy plane.

  • He really planted that one, talk about a firm landing. Those Alaska MD80's are on the way out in favor of 737NG's.

  • nice video!
