& throughout this whole documentary i felt like..this is all me hahah its so wonderful to be a part of something so beautiful & fun& full of history! :D
Ive been around the world too and been to countless rockabilly shows only to have people measure my cuffs and the lift of my hair. The Cramps, Gun Club and Flat Duo Jets had it right and as Deke says it's American music, (although look at your history a bit).
I'm a hope to die greaser, dont get me wrong, but id be liar to say that when JFK took it to the dome that rocknroll was dead. Rockabilly ought not to be framed and put on a wall to die like the married couple in your film, as it was and they were let the echo ripple and the music infect the next without your goddamn borders. it was about rebeliion to begin with no?
its more like accepting that its dead. I'm a hope to die greaser, dont get me wrong, but id be liar to say that when JFK took it to the dome that rocknroll was dead.
interesting and narrow documentary. Good for what it was but there are a whole lot of people not trying to create a safe bubble for themselves to live in that defined and safe. Rocknroll isnt safe, at least that's not was charged my engine about it. I'll agree that modern music lacks the fire that Gene and Eddie had for the most part but I don't think that creating a nice art deco universe to live in is gonna flame the fire of rocknroll.
@elvistheripper666 Too true man, Im rockabilly through and through, old car, old clothes, pompadour, the works, but you look at my best buddies, one is into late 60s-80s ska scene, and the other is a regular modern guy. I do have loads of rockabilly friends and the like but I dont just socialize with them and ignore anyone who isnt sporting a pomp and a bowling shirt. Anyway rant over :)
Rockabilly and Rock 'n' Roll are a way of life and the best thing to do is live every second having the fun and enjoyment of the life style you get from it! Keep on Rocking....
I am very impressed with this interview. We have been in to the Rockabilly scene for decades and unfortunately here in southern California it has changed drastically. The music, culture, invironment ,etc isn't the same. So refreshing to people that wear things other than jeans & T-shirts.
each scene in each town is a little different. Young people are usually new and very excited. When they get a few miles on them they'll mellow out. This is a big group and we can be a possitive influence for the young people. I know I've carried a few friends home to make sure they were safe. Most start w phsycobilly then move to rockabilly then to more of the hillbilly. This scene has room for growth and maturity. But still a blast with real people.
i very much agree.. but some Immature cats in the town i live in (and other towns nearby) have "greaser gangs".. i can't even enjoy an afternoon stroll at the mall without having to get asked where im from.
sorry bearkid but I can't understand why a greaser has to be inmature. I know inmature greasers and I know square ones... inmature and greaser is not the same.
WELL DONE. great editing and telling a story that needs to be told.
