  • What setting is the 30p under? I can not find it.

    Thank you.

  • @mp4podcastDOTcom Go to the custom movie mode. Look for the top setting labled HBR(High Bit Rate). That is 1080p @ 30 FPS for NTSC cameras and 1080p @ 25 FPS for PAL users.

  • @mpgxsvcd Thank you:)

  • would you be good enough to list the steps for upgrading to v1.1

I downloaded the upgrade and put it on a card, nothing happens

    what am I doing wrong?

  • @deima100 Now that V1.1 Ptool is released I will do a tutorial video for it. Possibly tonight.

  • As of today (January 8, 2012) I'm unable to download the 1.1 upgrade. The panasonic support rep says it doesn't exist. Am I missing something?

  • I lost my voice from being sick last week so I couldn't explain everything I wanted to. The ETC mode settings with the new firmware are a little disappointing. It now always starts with the Photo ETC setting when you press a quick button. That means that it requires extra button presses now to change to the ETC mode for video. A way arround it is to use RAW for photo. Then the stills ETC is greyed out and it defaults to the video mode ETC setting.

  • I'm speaking out for everyone who appreciates this kind of stuff. Thank you so much.

  • So, in terms of 24P, there are no new modes or higher bitrates available for it, correct? Also, could you explain ETC to me, what exactly is that for? You've highlighted it has a "video" mode now.

  • @BobbyMiller 1080p @ 24 FPS is unchanged. It is still a max of 24 mb/sec which is actually really good despite what some people are saying. The 1080p @ 30 FPS mode looks the exact same as the 1080p 80% slow motion mode. The good part is that now you have stereo sound for 1080p @ 30 FPS.

ETC mode is just a cropped sensor mode. It is lossless in terms of resolution but it will emphasize noise more than the standard video mode. It offers 2.6x and 3.9x lossless zoom for 1080p and 720p modes.

  • @mpgxsvcd I have a European model, can i set NTFS or just PAL?

  • the 1080 30p is in an interlaced wrapper, how does this compare to the 24p native in quality terms. Thanks for previewing, a lot of useful features to add to the next hacked version?

  • @ghough12 Yes 1080p @ 30 FPS is in an interlaced wrapper. However, it is true progressive and it doesn't not require any deinterlacing at all. If you treat it as 1080p @ 30 FPS it will offer you the exact same quality as 1080p @ 24 FPS and the 1080p @ 30 FPS 80% slow motion mode.

I think that the 1080p @ 30 FPS mode is much better for the action shots I typically shoot. You can also use 720p @ 60 FPS at 40% slow motion, 1080p @ 30 FPS at 80% slow motion, and 1080p @ 24 FPS.

  • @mpgxsvcd thanks very much for this information, appreciated

  • @mpgxsvcd You wrote 1080p@30FPS is TRUE PROGRESSIVE.. Will you help me to get why my video shot in HBR mode is recognized as 1080i/29,97 fps in Final Cut? Why I not P? Meanwhile, when played it shows no "camb" edges but just a bit blurred ones.

BTW, what is the origination of the information that HBR mode records in

progressive? I couldn't find this at Panasonic site.

  • @VS030456 The 1080p @ 30 FPS is true 1080p. However, it is wrapped in an interlaced container so some editing programs will interpret it as interlaced. Just force the program to treat it as progressive. For example select a 1080p @ 30 FPS timeline and it will give you true 1080p @ 30 FPS. Embedding 1080p in 1080i is known as "Progressive segmented frame". Look it up on wiki. It explains how it works. Sony and Panasonic both use it.

  • @mpgxsvcd Thank you very much for this clear explanation!
