NYC has a pretty extensive subway line, though the only train that doesn't go through Manhattan is the G, and according to Good, it's still not that good for non-Manhattanites. But there was a light rail proposed that would go through Bklyn, Queens, and The Bronx. I like the NYC subway except it's kind of dirty, it's loud, and delays are commonplace. But at least it has express stops, unlike the Paris Metro.
Yeah, I can easily see Japan's public transportation (esp. in tokyo area) is the best in the world, in some sense. It's fast, clean and ridiculously PUNCTUAL! I've heard the train engineers are required to adjust themselves to literally seconds, and they memorize every inch of the whole track. Obviously this is amazing - but wait, I just forget to mention that, you passengers are also treated like machinery in Tokyo!
I can see how Tokyo would win, have yall ever seen a video of the their subway? The pack on like sardines, and they have people who's job it is to push more people onto the train.
Well, NYC does have the longest subway system out of all of them (660 miles compared to Tokyo's 200 miles) And one does have to take into consideration that Seoul, Moscow and Tokyo have larger populations than NYC. (10.5 million, 10.5 million, and 12.8 million respectively, compared to NYC's 8.2 million.)
I also just got back from Paris, and I used their subway, the Metro, a lot, and it's got extensive subways, going all over the city itself. (For the outskirts, one uses the RER.) Also, it's relatively quiet because of rubber wheels, and trains come frequently. However, there's lots of graffiti, all the trains are locals, and there's no air conditioning. All the subways have advantages and disadvantages. I don't know where London stands, though.
I've been on the Paris metro, the stangest one i've been on because of the wheels and not track. Like little buses. The Paris metro has something very pairs about it which is intrinsic to Parisian culture, the signs made out of metal but spiraling like nature, the underground stops with its green titling. You know your in paris. The subways in east Europe in comparison are very cold and harsh. the subway in Rome feel like it is only half turn
Well, I think one might think the Metro trains are like little buses is, well, the rubber wheels, like a bus. But I've found that they trains are still pretty loud. And also, the old Art Noveau subway stops from the 1900s are all but completely gone, replaced with more modern stops. Also, I've found that the trains are different depending on the line, some have crank doors, some have pull doors, one even has barriers protecting the commuter from the tracks. It's different every line.
I don't think the Art deco has been completey replaced, it very much apart of paris. why would they replace it, brings in tourists. Along the same lines why we won't get rid of th redundant queen, where u from, do you have a queen? There is line in london where its stop have two sets of door in the centere. there are blast doors, again completely pointless since there are many other lines in the central. regaqrdless the paris metro is still cute in comparison
No, the original metro stations have NOT been completely replaced. I was going to add that, but YT's character limit is woefully low. And I come from America, so there's no queen or king. And I was in London on family visit, but I didn't get to use the Underground because we just drove through London quickly, not really visiting anything, so I don't really know. More specifically, I come from New York City. (continued on next comment)
It an animation done by good, they do lots of transparency animations making people aware of such thing and just generally trying to open people minds
The oldest subway in the World is the London Underground which was founded in 1863, nowadays it has 270 stations and has 250 miles of tracks, in 2007 over 1 billion people rode the Underground, but I hate it the air is really stale and its so hot down there in the summer!
didn't surprised me at all! knowing how the trains in japan and specially in tokyo get crowded with people and the station workers pushing them to make room for other people.
If we're talking physical-wise, New York's subway system is larger than any of these three and is only second to London's in that category while having the largest number of stations in the world.
If we're talking about ridership though, then the NY system at 1.62 billion rides in 2008 would be 4th but not by a whole lot from Seoul 1.7 billion.
