It would have been great for one of the stations, KABC preferably, to sign off the analog age with "Mickey's Gala Premiere"....much like what happened to BBC-TV back in '39!
@LandondeeL it is now the present day and that clip you're talking about did not air in the present day. the digital age era has "The Chew" on ABC which premiered monday september 26 2011 and airs informercials like FOX which is still on the air since January 3 2009.
Nice job with the video (it obviously took you a lot of work)! But, after seeing how other stations around the country did their analog signoffs, I'm a bit disappointed with LA's stations! Take a look at New York's WNBC! Thanks for the upload!
Nicely edited together Wattehel! Really shows how much the switchover means to the USA. I just wish that the shutdowns in the UK would be celebrated as much as they have been in the US! You guys switched overnight, we've got 2 more years before the entire country is switched over and we've been doing it for 3 years already!
Nice stuff, wattehel. Esp. poignant to have Stan Chambers be physically involved in the changeover. Glad Leslie Sykes used "end of an era," because it really was one that only techies could truly appreciate.
Ah, the people at KTLA celebrating like it's New Years Eve.

@LuisBelmontShow
I only had 4 VCR's and a DVR, and I didn't know their sign off time.

On KTLA-TV, Why they put a demo for converter box? (in digital portion)
A. To rescan other channels?
B. For other TVs don't have a converter box? (example: for child's room without converter box)
C. All of the above

Good post! Thanks for sharing the analog shutoff in Los Angeles!
PS: I DID hear REM before you muted the KTLA portion, but at least this video is still up there... :-)

They must skip from KTLA5news' credit instead of muting the song in the credits

Can You Upload Reupload The Video With The Song It's The End Of The World Okay!
VideoloverFan2008 2 years ago
I could but then the whole video would have no sound because YouTube would mute it.
wattehel 2 years ago
Yes it seems they kept it off until the end of the news then went into nightlight mode. Ch.2&4 are also in nightlight.

Did I see correctly, that KTLA's analog signal actually came back on after a few minutes?
bluorangefyre 2 years ago 3
It wasn't KTLA's programming. That was a short informational film about the DTV changeover and how to upgrade.
