If you showed this to any prominent and popular religious leader and even with the lyrical content present it as 'spiritual' music, I am quite confident most of those figures would spit in your eye. The inception of black metal was a product of anti-religious philosophies, and is titled 'black' metal because of that very fact. 1st of all, a lot of Christians and even religious leaders have shown support for Extol and other Christian Metal bands.

Some metal bands aren't believable because they try to be secular versions of Cannibal Corpse or whoever, but as Ole Borud's new album indicates, these guys sound like no one else and have way more influences than just Metal. They sung and played with such passion and conviction that you could not deny their talent and calling!

Actually, early Christianity was just as much a rebellion as any Satanic movement is today. That's why there was so much persecution in the early days. Christianity only became an "organized religion" when Catholicism became the official Christian religion in the dark ages. Most Protestants, including me, and also the members of Extol (who are all admitted Pentecostals) don't even recognize the religions and rites of traditional Catholicism as Christianity.

Well, it doesn't really work that way. As a Christian, I enjoy the "Black Metal" sound. Emperor, Satyricon, Immortal, Mayhem, Watain; I like them all. But the lyrics seriously contradict my faith. It's nice to have music that I like and actually agree with. As for differing beliefs, it shouldn't be a problem to tell someone else about your faith. I saw Extol live (They Rawk) Extol played mostly their classic ProgThrash (this song, etc) and the mosh pit was bloody phun, just like the old days! Went with Whermacht's lead singer Mestiso (opening act for Slayer) we dug these guys, they are top-notch performers and totally sold on thier Christianity which we respected, such an old school vibe, live Extol. Sold out concert was a packed house (we paid top dollar for scalped tix at the door) and even then it was a well worth it to just get in!
