I had graduated majoring in computer arts this year and have experience using Maya. I am also interested in learning Auto CAD. But before applying an Auto CAD class, do I need engineering, interior desing, or architecture skills to hire as an Auto CAD designer?

It depends on exactly what you want to do. As a computer arts grad, you have some 3D modeling training. However, if you wanted to be a mechanical or electrical engineer, obviously, you will need a lot more physics and an engineering degree. As far as just getting certified in AutoCAD, just call your school about taking some drafting classes. It really depends on what level you plan to use AutoCAD. Hope that I helped. I have an Electrical Engineering degree. I use AutoCAD all day, everyday.

mik987. With AutoCAD you can either go the Architectural Design route or the Mechanical Design route. I have 10 years experience with AutoCAD and enjoy my job. I just wish I was a master of better paying programs like SolidWorks or Pro-E. Pro-E is the hardest to learn but it pays the most. Lots of people know AutoCAD so companies aren't going to jump to pay you alot.

the new version of autocad wich is the 2010 is much different and much cooler than the 2009. i just downloaded this version for free because they provide a free version only for students.

This looks even more irritating than the 2009 version. Take a lesson from your colleagues at Microsoft(Vista). No one wants irritating bloatware. Polar tracking and osnaps are good enough to do what you are showing here.

you oubviously dont see furter than your nose...... lets say you have a parameter of level height for a bulding. the steel structure is constraints to the levels. Chage the levels height parameter and everything update instantly. You have 50 layouts ??? They all update as well.

Try to osnap that !

AutoCAD is a nice tool, but AutoCAD Architecture is the most gay construction I have ever seen. My old models have often no compatibility to AC 2010... It took me a lot of time fixing it.
