  • no, that is an Essex class carrier, this one is a Lexington class, the Lexington is actually a bit bigger than an Essex though the Essex came with all the advanced features we associate with modern carriers built on, such as a catapult, the only other Lexington class carrier the Saratoga, CV-3 was sunk as a target during operation crossroads, what a waste.

  • there were replacement Lexington's right? ...is this THE one museumed in CC, Texas?

  • cfs2?

  • Nice :) 5 *

    Looks really cool :D

  • good job.....one note, though.....lexington, at the time of her loss at coral sea, no longer had her twin 8 inch gun turrets, which had been replaced with 1.1 inch "chicago piano" guns to enhance her anti-aircraft armament. she never received the effective twin 5 inch gun turrets that saratoga eventually received.

  • Fake? Not for me.

Even i'd flied defending Lady Lex in "BattleHawks 1942" 20 years ago.

  • genial ... on of the best il2-videos, i'd ever seen. 5* but ... is it all made with il-2 ???

  • you've got a sharp eye. ;)

    Not only with il2, sure.

Can you guess? (hint: try to look closer to guncams and Devastators)

  • Hi RusDogEater

    Superb movie buddy.

How do you get those excellent camera veiws over the wing?

    5*****

    Respect

    Keith:D

  • it is feature of trakir

When you turn gun turret mostly almost to end(right or left), and turn head by trakir to opposite direction gun turret will not block your point of view

  • A good effort, alot of technical flaws like the Stars and Bars on the SBD's werent put on till late 43, and teh Essex class carriers shown here and there were not born yet. However its great to see people remember these things and take the time to bring them alive. Great action shots also!

  • Yeah, i know that, but the main idea was to show as Yorktown carrier differ from Lady Lex. Lady Sara does not participate in that battle.

  • Yea very true. Poor Sara was constantly in dry docks getting repaired. She could never go more then a few weeks without some damn Jap Sub pumping a Long Lance into her side. They called her Torpedo Alley lol. It angers me tremendously when I think about the U.S. Government using Saratoga as a target ship at Bikini for the A-Bomb test.

  • Lady Sara deserve to be a museum ship. Even much more than CV-16.

It's very sad, that she was sank such way but we can't change it.

  • @Phenixe427 On the other hand, it DID take a nuke to sink her. The japanese tried several times, and only dented the hull. Then agan, both Lex and Sara were battlecruiser hulls. Remember, Saratoga and Independence were expended at Biini to also compare different construction methods of the ships.

  • 1 star? Pretty mean. There's a lot of work gone into that, and it's well put together. Nice job RusDogEater.
