I just finished watching it, and i must say it was much better than i expected. Not as good as the first movie, but still a masterpiece. I am looking forward to Infernal Affairs III.
Eric Tsang's Sam Hon character is pretty tragic. He starts out as a reasonably neutral bad guy. Then he becomes boss and becomes more markedly evil. Then he recruits Andy Lau's character who ends up killing him.
Can anyone plz tell me the name of the guy who played the character of Ngai?
Being an Indian I m new to Hong kong movies. So can u suggest more HK movies where this Ngai guy is there. he is a gr8 actor - his dialogue delivery, his facial expression, the way he emotes everything just is class apart.
@bratvishal Yes youre right. He is my favourite Chinese Actor, I looking too for good movies. Do you know maybe some movies? I just watched Story of a profesional killer until now.
Great movie!!! Martin Scocese completely copied this film scene for scene with his adaption "The Departed". He lost some stripes as a visionary to me for this one.

Not really. Hong Kong films are on average better than Hollywood films, but they are very western, not the other way around. It used to be that they were all their own thing, and a Hong Kong film of the 70s doesn't have a shade of Hollywood in it. Now Hong Kong films like this are just the movies Hollywood would be making if they had more intelligence. For me, Japanese cinema is where it all is right now. They are so pure they give nothing for shallow Hollywood to work with.
HEY THE GODFATHER IS AWESOME!!!!! how dare you call american mafia films stupid. Sure the departed was nothing compared to Infernal affairs but that doesen't mean all american mafia films are stupid. Infernal affairs owned the departed. However there are other good crime films out there.
first of all it's a matter of opinion and i said the way they proposes is stupid never said all the films i just meant it's always predictable there's always the exception of the rule and honestly i never watched all the gangster movies made in america. In my opinion i prefer asian films more and i agree you don't have to agree with me.
Yeah you're right sorry for overreacting. However The Godfather(have you seen it tell me) is still my all time favorite crime film followed by Infernal affairs
My teacher shown me a part of the movie never really watched the movie. I only got up to the part his mother got shot and he was snuck away to america
Oh you're talking about the godfather part II. But really the godfather 1 and godfather 2 are the greatest crime movies ever made(not just in america I mean anywhere asian or american people love this film)
omfg!"bionicshiznick" doesnt know shit! firstly, u dont know anything about hong kong gangster films because all you know is fokin italian mafia piece of crap from typical american bullshit propaganda
Plus the acting was top notch. ( Francis Ng ) did a good job on Hau. Even if he the triad boss, you cant help to feel sad for him when he died. He's after all a guy that will do anything for his family, he trust his blood siblings and its only near his death before he discover Yan a mole .
I really like IA2, I thought it was bull at first since Im semi crazy about IA 1. Now I think its a masterpiece, it just manage to connect to me in all levels. Plots, Emotions, Morals, Tragedies
IA was brilliant executed. There are small details like u can see Edison is in love with his female boss, even at the start.
I like the theme of IA alot. In such a complex world, in a period of intense instability, it simple beliefs like ' I want to be a good guy' that keep us intact and move on.
infernal affairs 2 is easily the best in the trilogy. i find the story to be much more engaging and you really get to know the characters much better. i feel in the same regard, infernal affairs was rushed. the absence of tony leung and andy lau is definitely noticeable but overall its a well acted and brilliantly executed picture, regardless of the country or language.
I never paid much attention to Infernal 2 or 3, the whole trilogy is excellent... but after following 2 more closely, i'd have to say I narrowly favor 2 over 1. It is even better on the third or fourth watch. Amazing movie.
There's an even better and more gripping trailer on the DVD I have - it kind of start of like 1991 - It was the best of times and also the worst...
The whole themes of fate and destiny and the cycle of violence set in motion in 1991 sort of get's captured nicely in that trailer as I remember. This was such a well written film. Sorry -I'm American and the Departed can't hold a candle to this version - It's like the sloppy seconds saying.
Martin Scorsese never heard of Infernal Affairs until a bit after being attached as director to the project. After the rights were bought, Roy Lee put together the project and got William Monoham to write it. Scorsese then read it and joined the project.
This movie is great!!! I saw this trailer four months ago and miracle of God it was available in a nearby Hollywod Video. I have to be honest the trailer puts in up there expectation and especially after the success of the first one. Real good but not as good as the first one. The mole cops brother whoever he is played by does an outstanding job!!!
the thing about the movie is that it quotes some of the Indian buddhist crap. that crap is just coming straight from hell. chinese is not going to get better by believing in that crap.
the buddhist crap that ur talking about kinda makes it more interesting. because the trilogy, especially infernal affairs 1 and 3, depicts "eternal hell" really well in Andy Lau's characer.u can't really help but applaud at how well done it is.
I agree with you. The fact that Infernal Affairs is a trilogy meant that the characters are very well developed throughout, as opposed to the almost one dimensional ones we see in "The Departed". Then again, "The Departed" is pretty good in its own right.
Plus, if the departed was just a remake of this, to say that movie sucked and was shit is to say this does too. Just say you prefer the oringinal buddy.

Wow, seeing this trailer made me decide to skip the Chinese studies (ehm... again) and watch this once more! Who is it BTW who plays Mary, Sam's wife?
I would like it if they make the Departed sequel (more like a prequel to talk more about Billy and Colin's teen life). Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, and Jack Nicholson should return in that prequel. I think for the younger Billy, he should be played by Ben Mackenzie. For the younger Colin, I think Chad Michael Murray should play as him.
