Hahahaha, common on now people. These creatures make excellent pets, I've had them for many years, their personality varies with intelligence. They're less likely to bite you over a mouse or Hampster, and I use to have mice. I'm not too into the religious area but I find this cool.
Karni Mata was the incarnation of the god Durga. Karni mata was able to save the child of one of her devotee's from the god of death Yama and from now on anyone from her tribe that dies becomes a rat until reborn into the tribe.
i have nothing against their beliefs or anything but i really hate rats! i don't really know why, maybe just an irrational fear. the part when the guys is letting the rats climb on him really gave me the shivers!
good question i was thinking the same thing......hmmmm i wonder if the parent of a child(or children) died and became a rat and it had babies if the child (or children) atomaticly die and become rats
look at them, well looked after, normal size, healthy, nothing wrong with those rats or eating anythin they have eaten, they are just like domesticated pet rats, intelligent and good fun aswell
Wow! That was truly an amazing video, I loved the shots you got, especially the rats running up and down the stairs. And I take my hat off for eating the banana, it's in their custom to do so so why shouldn't we. A lot of people wouldn't have done that. I'll be doing the same when I go.
I guess its Hindu from the fact their are multiple Gods and there are cows everywhere (sacred animal) but it could be Sihk (though I think they are monothheists) or Jain (but they generallly are covered because they cant kill anything, including insects).
india is very diverse with over 37 languages, various religions and sects. This temple attracts so much attention because its a rarity, most hindu temples would never cater to/worship rats.
They probably know if its THAT unhygienic, I mean although people think otherwise there are much more unhygenic things everyday that you touch and eat that aren't touched by rats/ I guess if two people dropped dead from a rat disease they would know they might need to do something.

What about plague? that comes from the fleas that the rats carry. The whole rat thing puts me off from the idea of ever travelling to India

Good. Stay away from India. Keep to yourself.

Sikhs are monotheists and would never worship rats or ever let them into a holy temple(gurdwara)

Ryan, I'm curious. How do you fund your travels? I would like to see as much of the world as possible, but I keep hitting a brick wall. Money.

I just apply for jobs overseas. They pay airfare, housing, everything.

The bowl you see the rats drinking milk out of? The worshippers go every day to drink that same milk after the rats are done with it.

what do they do when the rats die
locke3820 4 years ago
I guess they find new ones, or the rats would just mate, it's natrual you know. :)
