  • lets start to build a lightsaber

  • Very nice. i've try chemiluminescence without potassium hexacyanoferrate(II). i used ferrum citrate and ferrum oxalate. They worked!

  • This vid is a favorite on Belgium

  • OMG! Strange feedback on this video once more.

  • Skip to 01:15 for instant action

  • 1:10

  • wooooooooooooooooooooow

  • 1:10 to see glow

  • LUMOS!

  • @guardiangelrae LOL XD

  • Very Nice!

    ----------

    Muito Legal!

  • aus was besteht das denn?

  • 1:10

  • Hey i need some help i need the procedure

    and english plsss.

  • learn the chemistry behind glow sticks: watch?v=RNBVnGT4UFU

  • Luminol? isn't that like $12 a bottle?

  • Chemistry is the only important thing, not the language ..

  • is your mom being fucked in that DARK ?

  • cud u send me the procedure

  • How much phenolphthalein per liter do you add for the pink solution? Can I just add ~10 mg?

  • So this isn't your experiment? Because it says that yours only lasted 25 seconds while this clearly lasted several minutes.

  • where can i get this stuff... would love to make a fountain in the center of campus glow

  • like the purple one :D

  • That's Not luminol that's Jews in a bottle they just lit!!

  • @TySmithOfLove1 oh god the lulz

  • will offer you ox

  • if their reaction was Jaa and wow, my reaction would be. What The Fuck? haha

  • hey i know you guys speak german and all, but could you tell us the compounds you used so that we may try this in our chemistry class we would really appreciate it.

  • lol it spilled

  • We must save our earth!

  • beautiful :)

  • what is the use of the ammoniumhydrogencarbonate? or do you mean just ammoniumcarbonate? I did the same reaction without it and it worked.

  • Sweet, now where do i go to get my own headlight fluid.

  • How come the liquid starts to fade at the top and not just all at once?

  • it's not fading it just spilled out due to the reaction^^

  • yes but why does it start there? xD

  • because the opening is on the top^^look at the green one it spilled out and theres no more liquid on the top because it spilled out^^it's not fading there's is nothing more to glow

  • how to do it?

  • cooooool

  • I started doing chemical experiments when I was 10 (now im 14) next year I'll start the chemical course =)

  • that pirate ALSO not be anything other megor mara

  • So it looks like in english "hermin" or "Hämine (Stärkere Leuchtkraft)" would be hemin or C34H32N4O4·FeCl

Anyway, there you all have it finally

  • O is oxidant

  • O RLY?

  • Very Real.

I'm doing a Luminescence experiment for Elementary kids in AP Chemistry, my teacher had a little Luminol left so we gave it a try, and it lit up amazingly.

We also used some water + Highlighter, Tonic water, Lemon-Scented Ammonia (Very Yellow), Anti-freeze and Crushed up Vitamin B-12, All were brightly luminescent under a black light.

  • @ThaZatzke

I know your comment is two years old and everything but I thought I would add this note for others interested in blacklight luminescence.

I found that laundry detergent lights up well under blacklight (Wisk works wonders) and can be used to write secret messages on your walls, make handprints, etc... and for the most part you can wash it off.

  • Oh mein got, verdamt cool jungs :D Gut gemacht :)

  • It's definitely not fake. i'm doing this experiment as a term project for my chemistry class. and trust me luminol is way expensive. it's like $25 for 5 grams. you don't need a lot of it, though.

  • It's not fake just coz you don't get it,this is a chemical called luminol. Look it up.

  • Nice demo - I bet you can measure the reaction rates from the intensity decay... The first minute needs to be edited out.

  • agree

  • heh heh i just did this experiment in my organic chemistry class and it was pretty neat!

  • isnt it the same as glow sticks?

  • Very similiar. I don't know if there are the same chemicals in light sticks (since luminol costs a lot and light sticks are relatively cheap) but the type of the reaction is the same, it's chemiluminescence.

  • Those look alot brighter/vibrant than glow sticks though, and more colors, so I'm assuming you're right.

  • From what I've read, no, the chemical is different, and involves mixing hydrogen peroxide and another chemical beginning with the letter O. Can't remember, sorry. Luminol is too expensive for light sticks.

  • Alemanes.

  • he looks like a headless ghostXD

  • come verga

  • hey i made a vid ABOUT HIGHLIGHTER WATER CHEK IT OUT ITS TIGHT!!!!!

  • ausgetsciechnet

  • how do you do that.what chemicals are used

  • Schade das wir sowas nicht machen :(

    Wollte das so gern machen...

  • Haha i think i pissed of the sneppa. as the matter of fact..i really like what you guys have done..but come on. We know all germen say jaaa and wow to anything..i my self have lived in berlin..hehe if you gonna get offended by that then iam truely sorry. But i have then a question to you..how long does the glow then work? Iam does it glow only fore a while and then slowly dissapear?

    Hugs from denmark :D

  • nc xD

im not offended by your comment ;)

But i dont think so ;)

    Hm...

After the experiment the glow faded out, but how long, i dont know ;) looong...

  • what a dusch

  • @inamorato86 i can also german im sorry?

  • typical german..they say Jaa and wow to anything

  • I would like to see you when you try this experiment for the first time...

I don't say something like wow...

By the way, why shouldn't say the german ja?

    nc...

  • @inamorato86 Dann weisst du bestimmt auch was Neidisch auf English heisst...

  • Comment removed

  • Respond to this video... typical american.. they talk shit about other countries even though the countries they make fun of are overall better than them

  • did this experiment 2 hours ago in my orgo lab. pretty awesome.

  • ORGY lab ??

  • i love that haaaaaaaan

    haaaaaaaaaan

    twice

    clap

  • i just bought a lb of the stuff its great but its kinda pricey

  • luminol is one of the few things I remember from ochem lab. nice :D

  • I'm impressed of how long you had the reaction going on. Light fades after a whooping 2 minutes. Nice experiment ^^

    Must be the complicated reactants...

  • MINT!!! HOW DO THEY DO THAT!!!!

  • r you from newcastle?

  • thats not dutch thats bloody german.

  • You mean the discription?

The first part is german, the secound dutch...

    The video is german ;)

  • Can u tell me what is Hermin, or send a link from Hermin? i coulsnt find any websites from this chemical...

  • Lol! It's spelled haemin, its a porphyrine-complex of Fe(III)-ions. Its some kind of catalyst for this reaction.

  • Yup...

  • hey,I drank some of that liquid at school and now i have glowy skin!!

IM JOKING LOL :)) ! Good Job Guys!!

  • Is this how babies are made?

  • 1/3 of the video i spend my time ...

  • purple, yellow, and blue!

    coooool!

  • r u realy doing that in the dark that was cool ;3

  • can you say me what thing that you mixed?

  • Benutzt:

    Hermin (Stärkere Leuchtkraft)

Luminol (Leuchten und für blaue Farben)

    Phenolphthalein (Für pink)

    Wasserstoffperoxid (Für grün)

  • could you say it in english to everyone understand ?

  • I believe the last one (Wasserstoffperoxid) is Hydrogen Peroxide. Although my german is very poor!

  • right it's H2O2

  • I assume the purple was done with phenolphthalein dye and the blue was not with anything at all but the yellow...not so sure.

  • Wasserstoffperoxid - H2O2

  • oh..okay.

  • can u tell me what is hermin?

  • what did you make the luminol react with to have such a lightening mix ?

I tried with Cu but it doesn't last as long as expected...

  • We used Hermin.

This is the "short" name of the real chemical.

I still asked for the real name via email, but i don't received an answer.

  • Thank you very much in advance =)

  • Hey thanks for the great video. How long did the light last until they went dim again? At the end of the video they still seemed very bright which I was surprised to see since luminol often goes dim after about 30 or so seconds after it's completely oxidized. I'm curious about what chemicals were used as well.

  • I don't realy know, how long they light.

When we disposed the chemicals, they still light.

One important chemical was "hermin", but my teacher is since yesterday ill and i can't ask him, which chemicals were exactly used.

Sorry for my bad english ;)

    ----------------------------------------------

  • Could you explain me which chemicals you used for this experiment besides Luminol? Because I am doing a Chemistry-report for school involving Luminol.

  • aw crap. please tell me you dont go to UW and are in chem 237...

  • wow i wish i was bilingual

  • Hi Leute,

    Sehr tolles Experiment-5 Sterne.
