  • damn, that was dope

  • Hey Guys im Brian and im 15 , I’m trying to get into Djing, I’ve Ordered a few systems and still need help, Please go to my intro video and leave comments that will help me in the future. Also Subscribe and ill be updating you a lot. Thanks

  • i think Serato is a bit complicated than Virtual DJ. i got the SL2 and i'm not really happy like i thought i would be. I got a very good experience with VDJ, but i thought maybe Serato would be the shit 100 times better. I understand how come such a great idea of Serato Scratch doesn't have a autosync botton or an automatic beat lock.

  • @Screwmatic Serato is for more profession DJs. You should not be using the autosync to mix. Learn to do it by ear and you will be a better DJ. Anyone can let the program do all the work. Why even DJ then if you are not really DJing? Your main job as a DJ is to match beats. If you don't match beats by ear I don't think you are a DJ. Just saying.

  • @thepauldj THANK YOU! Big ups from another Baltimore resident! Keep it up!

  • @thepauldj i think VDJ is a great little tool to teach people what DJing is, i learned it myself this way by cracking the software 1 day n using it in internal mode without any hardware. the first day of buying my turntables (along w/ my 57sl) i taught myself how to beatmatch. never touched turntables prior to that. while i do think beatching by ear shows a certain level of aptitude as a dj, i think people who beat sync can be as equally creative as someone using serato, imo

  • @thepauldj Serato shows the original bpm of tracks, + the current bpm if you make adjustments with the pitch control. So all one needs to do is look at the bpms and match them up. I'd call that the manual version of AutoSync lol

  • @Screwmatic gow.. newschool kids... "where is the sync button" lol.. funny how laptop kids are called DJs these days.. get some decks and vinyls.. and show what you got "DJ"

  • @Paracaz lol.. haters gonna hate, You mad bro?

  • @Cballin Haters? I didn't think you were being a hater.

  • @thepauldj yo parie do you have experience with the video scratch live?

  • @warewolf140 Yes I do. Been using Video SL for a while now. Got a couple videos up on it.

  • nice this really helped thaxxx :)

  • @magikplays69 Awesome. Glad I could help. This video is old. Good to know it is still working.

  • @thepauldj yea thax once again i got question thoo last time i was gonna drop a set at a party my Sl was failing it said that my sl was un updated i had the 2.2 at the moment u think it was because i didt have the 2.3 ?

  • @magikplays69 That is strange. Has it happened since then? I have never had that happen or heard of it happening. Check the Serato forum.

  • i messaged you

  • i wish there would be a sync botton or an auto beat match to lock those beats together without loosing them:casue everytime you loop any song with same bpm it doesnt beatmatch correctly you kinda have to adjust them everytime.

  • Very cool!! I just picked up all new gear n serato sl2 was on that list.. I can't wait to hook it all up n play..

  • @DaddyTheTechnition Thats whats up. Let me know if you need help with anything. Be sure to check out my channel. Lots of Serato videos.

  • @thepauldj Right on man.. Thanks a lot I, appreciate the help!! Im sure Im gonna need some help.. lol..

  • @DaddyTheTechnition No problem. You will get. Just stay on it.

  • upgrade that camera

  • @DJransomLV Got a new one now. You still get the point tho. Sorry it was not up to your expectations.

  • @DJransomLV So let me get this right. You say I need a new Camera yet all your videos just have a still picture. Really? Don't waste my time. Go bother someone that gives a shit little boy. Didn't you search and find my video because you need to learn how to match beats? Come on son.

  • Trying to figure out if I am having a issue with my turntable. When I try to calibrate Serato, on the left deck I get a line. All connections are correct. What should I do?

  • @UrbanMello Not sure what that is. Call Serato maybe or search the Serato forum and I am sure you will get help.

  • Okay I got a question that desperatley need to be answered; Cant you use serato with JUST the novation dicersand mixer with NO turntables? It seems like its possiblee but i juss wunt to be 100% suree Loll :P

  • @crazylegs224 I will try it out. It would have to be on INT mode to do so. Gonna try it out for fun. I will let oyu know. Might post a video of it.

  • @thepauldj Thanks man,I dnt hav alot of money & i dnt feel like buyinng a turntable,so i was just wondering if it was possible to use the Dicers for now ujntil i get my turntable..

  • @crazylegs224 Still need to try it out.

  • Great vids Paul Thanks man

  • hey man quick question when i run 2 tracks with the exact same bpm one always somehow slides off beat after 25 sec... any tips

  • @TheRealDJLukie Serato does not sink beat. You still have to do the work to keep them matched.

  • @TheRealDJLukie The BPM counter doesnt break it down to decimals. You could have two tracks palying that both read 68 BPM but with no decimal reading, one track could be 68.2 BPM and the other could be 68.7 BPM. I believe the stacked mode layout will display the decimals in the tempo, but it wont display your loop settings and que points. Just get them as close as you can and do tapping/nudging maitnence while slightly adjusting the pitch until you get it right on the mark.

  • Awesome, new to scratch live and this is just going to make it better for me. Thank you

  • I iI find this video very informative...

  • how comes your peaks are bigger than mines? what makes your peaks show bigger than mines im using sl1 2.2.0

  • @djShawn20 Mp3 quality.

  • Good stuff man.

  • @kgro40

    TRUTH!

  • how do u get the bpm on serato. it doesnt come up on mine

  • @jessejameshollywood9 On the right hand side of your you can say what you want and don't want to see. BPM is off right now. You can also arange them to however you want. I put BPM all the way on the left side. Click the ? and the top of serato and put your arrow over anything and it will tell you how and what to do. You will get it.

  • @thepauldj how comes your peaks are bigger than mines? what makes your peaks show bigger than mines im using sl1 2.2.0

  • @jessejameshollywood9 Also, you have to analyze your songs when you first import them into serato. Incase you dont know how to do this, unplug the usb cord and hit the 'Analyze track' button and it will start to process all of your newly imported, or unprocessed songs. You should also chose the bpm range because sometimes it will read a bpm at double time, meaning it will display a 64 bpm track at 128 bpm.

  • I found this video very helpful! Thanks for the post. Quick question though. Why are the peaks different colors? For example shouldn't the bass peak be the same color?

  • @mikereissy theyre color coded so you can easily distinguish a low end (bass) peak from a high end peak (snare/hihat) like the waveform display.

  • I found this video very helpful! Thanks for the post.

  • @thepauldj Yea Bro I Know Im Good At Beatmatching But A Friend Wants To Know Since hes Beginner

  • @TheDjIon Word. What program do you use?

  • @thepauldj I Use Cds Man Normal Dj x)

  • Does Serato Have Sync Orr Naa?

  • @TheDjIon Hell no, us serato users hate sync

  • @TheWaynelds I agree with you on that sir. HATE IT!

  • There are 4 boxes at the upper left part of serato 2.1.1 (near the clock) that allow you to change to 4 different waveform views, including horizontal waveforms. One good thing about the horizontal waveform view it gives you the bpms in tenths of decimal point, while in vertical waveform view it rounds to the nearest full decimal. Thanks for the tip on the key lock--I didn't know about that one until watching this video.

  • great tutorial thx alot......

  • @chicokely Welcome. It is old. Glad people are still liking it. Making new one very soon.

  • if you have 2 songs at the same bpm and I have them already beat matched, do i have to worry about it going off beat later on?

  • @spartanshyne Do what?

  • @thepauldj sorry i tend to explain something and make it complicated.lol

    ok

1.lets say both songs are the same bpm

2.then i match the beats together.

my question is will one of the songs ever go off beat or will it stay on the same beat?

  • @spartanshyne If they are the same speed and you start the next song at the right time then yes. But it is not that easy.

  • @thepauldj i know thats why i watch your videos so that way its easier for me, if anything i loop it and then i would start matching the beats because its not easy getting it in one try, thanks for all the videos paul :]

  • GREAT VID BRO THANKS

  • hey i am new to djing, and i just bought serato 2.0. i am wondering how to get the horisontal wave forms instead of the vertical ones. any help would be appreciated, thanx.

  • @beatjugglez Hey. Whats up? That is awesome. Hope you are enjoying it. Go into your set up mode in the top right. It is in there somewhere. You should take time and look at everything in your set up. So you know what everything does. Serato does do a lot. But if very simple if you know it well. Also, go download the new version 2.1.1. It just came out. Go to serato.com.

  • Great Vid

  • yo, sometimes the neeedle on the digital plater moves very slowly, eventhough my record isnt moving. any reason why?

  • @Devestato72 I have heard this before. If you reload the track and don't touch the platter that should work. Ask on Serato forum and someone might be able to tell you how to fix it. Sorry I wasn't more help.

  • @thepauldj Thats o.k, after I reload 1 or two times it goes away. tks

  • Hey thx for the tips man and im guessing your a hip hop dj?I just started and am making vids plz watch and comment.....im pretty bad but im a beginner.

  • @DjKenanO You are welcome. Yes I am a hip-hop DJ. But I play everything. Going to check you out now. Thanks for watching.

  • hey djpaul, im looking to start djing, i will be buying serato scratch 2.0, what would u reccomend starting out, equiptment wise. not to expensive

  • @EdHater111 That is awesome. Serato rocks. No equipment is cheap really. If you want to be good, you have to spend a little. Go with one CD-J 800 and a Rane mixer to start. You can kind of use one CD-J to do both sides. Look for vids on it. Plus I always say. Buying cheap equipment will cost you more in the long run. Just buy good stuff and save the money you would have spent on cheap stuff. It is easier to learn to good equipment too.

  • Hey Paul...this is DJ Shay, one of Baltimore's female DJs! I appreciate the tutorial. This is exactly what I am working on...smoother blends using the beat matching visuals on Serato. Some dj's do listen by ear, but I feel as though since I spent $500 bucks for this program, I want it to do as much as it can do. Question? Do you have tutorials comparing the benefits of dj'ing in rel vs. int?

  • @ssnowd11 Hey. What up. I could make a video on the different mode for Serato for you. I have a DJ gathering starting up in Baltimore on July 7th. I have a video up explaining it all. You should come out.

  • @wow06 Well really I can listen to a song and in a couple seconds tell you what the BPM is. Been doing this since I was digging in crates. It a new day. I could never be as good as I am now with records. You old guys need to get with the times. And it is not killing turntablism. It has now made more people know what it is to be a DJ.

  • Hey What's up Paul?!!! Will you be doing any more tutorials on beatmatching with Serato?

  • @ECHOPSON I think I could do that. What are you in need of knowing?

  • @thepauldj I wanted to learn how to take an acapella of one song and match it up to an instrumental of a totally different song...Both having the same BPM of course.... Thanks paul!!!

  • @ECHOPSON Word. That a good one. Have not seen much of that either. I got you. That will be the next video. Look for it tomorrow even. Thanks for the idea. Any others?

  • Hey What's up Paul?!!!! I go by the name DJ E. Boogie and let me first say I appreciate your tutorials on beatmatching with serato!!!! I just don't understand all the drama and beef about using the waveforms to help you create a tighter mix!!!!! Well damn, isn't that what they are there for....? Man keep the tutorials coming!!!!!!!!

  • @ECHOPSON I hear ya. I get lots of hate because of it. Don't really care. Just had to delete a couple more. Gotta love haters. I got another video about the beef the waveform you should check out.

  • @thepauldj Once I saw your tutorial on beatmatching, It just made me more aware of what I should pay more attention to in the visual aids!!!! I understand that using your ears are the best way but I just don't believe my ears can be better than this machine. THE VISUAL AIDS ARE STILL GREAT THOUGH!!!!! Rock on Paul and thanks for the tip with visual aids on the Serato!!!

  • @ECHOPSON Thanks for watching btw. Glad I could help out a fellow DJ.

  • DJing while holding a camera and recording what your doing is a skill in itself!!! LOL.

    Nice video.

  • @gilboogie lol. Thanks man. Didn't think about that.

  • is there a way to sync songs with each other using serato?

  • @mlbyeti There is not a way to sync songs using Serato. You should take the time to learn to match beats anyway. It really is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be. You just have to do it, and it will happen for ya.

  • @thepauldj Well said!!!!

  • Thanks for this tutorial!

Now ready to practice some beat-matching and create-save loops...

  • nvm bro i found it thanks ill hit you up for some more ?s

  • No Problem man. Anytime.

  • see i see i see a colum in your libary that says bpm mine doesnt and also if a song doesnt have a bpm how do i see how many it has?

  • You still can't find it I guess? Let me know if you still need help. I will make a video explaining it if you would like. Watch my video on setting loops and cues to learn how to set the bpm of a song. I go over it on that one.

  • @AlexGregoryyy In the upper right corner of the window where your tracks are displayed, you right click there so a drop down menu pops up and there you click on the view options

  • where can i download this program?

  • @MOZZWIGAN you buy it since it doesnt work without hardware.

  • Hey thank you nice tutorial some comments though:

    - Do not mix the vocals of 2 tracks as you do in the end they will almost always "clash" and it will sound awful

    - The pitch lock is a good feature but this works by "cutting off" the end of each beat. So you loose a bit of your sound. This can get bad with large pitch differences ! So I do not reccomend to use it always ... Some types of music will still sound good when pitched. So experiment with it please ....

  • Thanks for taking the time to watch. I try to never put vocals over vocals. Good ear. Didn't notice that was in there or I would have did it over. If you notice. I take it out of the loop 1 rotation to early. Oh well. Can't be perfect all the time. lol. And to the second thing. Do you mean the key lock? No sure what you mean. Teach me please.

  • Well pitch lock works by cutting a piece of the audio for each beat and stretching the rest (so the rest stays in key). The more you change pitch the more audio you loose (before each beat). Thia can give bad result witch some kinds of music /tracks (e.g. very deep basses)

  • @Beretta1979 I did not know that. I don't go to far from 0 with any track so I guess I have never heard a difference. And I never go under 0. I really never go more then 5 bpm faster then the next song. I hate when songs soung to fast or to slow in a DJs mix. Thanks again. I will have to mess with it a little a see the difference.

  • Remember if your learning how to Dj don't depend on the visual tools because they don't always help and it's better to know how to beat match by ear...just incase! lol not a bad tutorial tho!

  • You should always start by using your ear. A friend of mine on here asked me to make this. I never looked at those little peaks until I made this. Now I can't stop looking at them. Made my mixes even tighter. Do you use them? It is great reference.

  • hey loop pionts how long do you do them? i just got my ttm57 and i havent got use to it so do the loops stay on the song or evrytime you play the song you got to set loop pionts ? im confused i spent a shit load on my mixer and dont know how to use it lol

  • You can set and save up to 9 loops on every song. I do mine as long as i can. Sometimes that is only 4 counts. Sometimes it is as long as 32 counts. Depends on the intro of the song. You set the loops and cues on the Serato program too. Not the mixer if thats what you were trying. That mixer is bad ass btw. Getting it soon. Its lots to learn but you can do it if you want it. Just lock yourself in your room until you got it. lol

  • what mixer are you using..

  • In this video I am useing the Rane TTM-56. I will be getting the 57sl very soon. For doing video mixes.

  • much appreciated

  • Glad it help. Beatmatching 3.0 is coming soon. Let me know anything you need to know and I will put up a video for it.

  • yea if you u could id appreciate a sort five or ten song set of the same bpm and then one with a few diff bpm mixed in and how to match those up ......also you were saying u set loops at the start of every track to keep a longer mix .could you show how to do that like you did with boom boom pow and kid cudi day n night....so what i mean is mix another track in to day n night cause i get how you did it from boom to day n night

  • I got you man. The next video will be on that. More beatmatching tips.

  • thanks bro

  • good shit reaaly helped ......thanks bro keep doin your thang

  • wow great help thanks
