@HollieSteelXxX Because they can travel up to 3 miles a night...I can't see how that has any effect on their quality of life when they are living as a domesticated house pet. There should be no problem if they are given plenty of room to move around. If the hedgehog was flailing around and trying to escape, then yeah, i'd say let the poor thing go. Would i keep a lion as a house pet? Im not even going to answer that question. But I will ask you this, would you keep a wolf as a house pet?

Porcupines have quills that come out when it pokes something. Hedgehogs have shorter quills for protection that stay intact.

That is a wild hedgehog and should not be out in daylight, if you find one during the day it is sick and needs help. It's likely it was eating the melon because it was desperately thirsty. If you find any more like that please take it to a rescue or a vet where it can be treated. These animals are now on the protected species list as they are becoming endangered. We have lost 50% of them in the last 10 years.
