Wow. I thought people's comments were pretty whiny, but this guy *really* does not teach well. He spends nearly *half* the video explaining how to resolve A TIE. My god. All it would take is "Each player rolls one die to see who goes first; roll again to resolve a tie." Bam. 5 seconds.

Then he tries to explain that a player needs both the 6 and 2 jumps open to move one piece 8 spaces, and FAILS by attempting it with words alone instead of a very simple visual demonstration. Ugh.

It's a lot easier to learn while playing with someone then this. The game is harder to explain with words than by just showing and playing 1st hand. Once you get the rules it's pretty fun though.

The rules are basically like Trouble, only you have 2 die to roll instead of 1 and you can put more than 1 of you game pieces on the same spot. That's probably the toughest part to learn.

After thaat, you learn how to set the board up, which way to move your pieces and how rolling doubles works and you're pretty much ready to go. The biggest thing to remember though is that backgammon is practically a grown up version of Trouble.

For new players who want to learn, I recommend the "monkeyseevideos" series, with host Vic. He's clear, takes it slowly, and covers different situations. Do a youtube search for user "monkeyseevideos". He uses white and blue checkers on the board, so you know you have the right vids when you see that. Good luck.

It isn't that the game is retarded, it is just that it's hard for people to understand the rules without having to play through a game themselves. I found it hard to understand when a friend explained it, but then we played two or three games and it became really easy to figure out.

You have to move one guy 8 places then. If you can't do that either, then, you lose your turn.
