I really dislike snobbery in anything (music, art, books, etc), and I always know when some one become a pipe snob once they bad mouth the captain. I've always liked it, and honestly i have a hard time telling the difference from other "high-end" tobaccos. If anything it is a little dry, but that is easily fixed. Enjoy your smokes.
ya if youre new to pipes something to look out for is the cigarette tobacco that alot of compaines pass off as pipe tobacco. they just label it pipe tobacco to get around the taxes. but not with captain black. they will never screw u.

Funny thing is, whenever that happens, I have this strong craving to smoke a pipe! I don't know what it is; I can't smoke a pipe unless I have a beard! I've got seven pipes now but my team hasn't made the playoffs in four or five years--damn! Well, there's always my Cuban cigars to fall back upon whenever I choose. Damn it's impossible to smoke in the wintertime!

As far as torture porn goes, HOSTEL did my head in because in my traveling twenties, I used hostels all the time...and let's face it, a black-market torture ring fronted by a youth hostel doesn't seem all that far-fetched, to be honest. ...why should a torch lighter be a no-go ? sweet jesus......its absolutely free of bad-taste.... like a normal match (?) .... u should NEVER use a fuel-lighter, like a zippo or something....they "taste" really bad and its just not good.... but the normal lighters are okay...totally neutral..watch out 4 burning the "head" of the pipe... thats the only thing..for that case, there are special pipe-lighters, with a better "flame-position"... use them everytime....sorry 4 my bad english :)
Captain Black is one of the best tobacco's I have smoked and I live in North Carolina which is known for it's tobacco. It lights very easily compared to some others I have smoked and the smell of the tobacco is just wonderful. It burns great in the bowl and the taste stays fresh for a long time. Dont be ashamed to smoke Cap Black, enjoy it.

I think everyone - once! - tries the blowtorch-type lighter ... with the resulting charred pipe rim. I've moved to less and less heat - to wooden matches now. Quite the movie!
I love Captain Black White and Royal. I thought it was interesting though that I found Captain black to be very good for blending with other tobaccos!

I really love the white Captain Black that is available in the USA. We also do have Captain Black in Europe but the mixture is different to yours and doesn't taste that good. :(

Well, I am so glad to meet another Captain Black fan! I was almost embarassed to mention it, as most pipe smokers I've come across seem to regard it as undesirable drugstore trash. Who knows? Maybe after years of smoking Boswell, Dunhill and G.L. Pease, I'll get snooty about it, too, but I hope not. And my wife hopes not.
