No matter how hard i try, i just can't explain this strange, undefined longing for a perfect place of peace and harmony everytime i listen to this tune.

does anyone know the bass players name in this video. he was i think the session bass player on make me smile with steve harley. top of the pops video.
i was raised on this music,i am 67 now ,when iwas akid i idolised the shadows .when i was learning to play guitar. the shadows brought a unique sound to the world this sound is still unique ,plenty have tried to emulate it but no one has managed this up to now . this music will go on forever not like the crap we have to put up with today
Wonderful. I got turned on this particular song by reading something about how the rock star Rick Springfield is a fan of the Shadow, and how he considers them a musical influence. So I just had to check it out...and now the shadows have yet another fan...me :)
I agree ! This piece by the Shadows takes me to a place when I write , that no one has ever been to before! I was driving through the Rockies in Canada, Cavatina came on the radio ! I stopped the car, turned up the volume and stepped out of the car, walked off the road quite aways, and walked on land that I knew no one else had stepped on, and did it to this music! Like the Rockies go up into the clouds until you no longer see them, I felt this piece of music did so to .
there is a lot of guitarists showing there skills on u tube. Some of them can play really fast stuff which is impressive for a few seconds. But as a guitarist my self y o y do i love this man so much. His playing to me is almost Godly. Its smooth, sophisticated, and played with so much feeling its very hard to copy. hank is the man and always will be in my book.
Just beautiful. Hank inspired me to start playing in 1960 and if I live to be a thousand years old I will never be able to play like him. I reckon he is probably the most influential British guitar player ever and has been an inspiration to so many who came after him.
He was the first and the best........................!
Hey c'mon guys, peace the fuck out man. Both versions are beautiful. Truth be told ol' ' halfway ' does play both parts with great style and finesse while this kinda Jeff Beck style version does seem to capture that lovely haunting melancolia of ' Cause We've Ended As Lovers '. And Gilmour is a brilliant player but he can't twang my heartstrings like hank or Jeff (or John Williams) Peace

This is marvellous! I love the solo, classical versions of this tune but in this version, the chords are taken care of by the other guitar whilst Hank is free to emphasise the melody. I also love the electric approach to this timeless classic :)
john williams does play both parts at the same time i know this beucase i spent about 6 months trying to learn it on clasical guitar but found playing both parts simultaneously to be too difficult
Just brilliant and never surpassed. You can only understand how big an impact the Shadows made in the early 60s if you were around at the time. My God....a red Strat, glasses like Buddy Holly and a sound that NO-ONE had ever heard before coming out of the AC30 amps they used in those days. Their first single on their own was Apache by Jerry Lordan and it was electrifying. It took me until I was in my 50s to buy my first Strat....These guys influenced just about everyone back then. Brilliant.
@baxio3rod Ummm..'Jet black' and 'Drifting' came before 'Apache'., and so did 'Saturday dance', 'Feeling fine', 'don't be a fool with love'..'Chinchilla', and 'Bongo blues' did too!
Damn i just bought a slide so i could learn how play this but it's all in the vibrato. Fooled me again! Gotta love Hank. Great feel, never overplays and makes every note count.

Hank Marvin is truly a genius on the guitar and he is the best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be.
I've heard this tune played by various other artists but only his version that I will care to have it replayed over and over again.
The best instrumental piece ever and it was performed by the best lead guitarist in the world.
Hank is my idol many many times over.

A beautiful melody, and only Hank Marvin can make it sound even more beautiful. I love this melody.
