Still checking this video of you Carey! Unforgettable evening when you played 'Roger'.... thanks a zillion for your performance! Hope to hear you play again... last time I saw you was at Karmine Alers cd release party in NYC! Miss you in NY... stay here!?!
I found about Rent online with a file someone uploaded.Obviously this person filmed at the theatre...and I just loved it...
well this happened years ago, but I still looking for the actress that played Mimi in that exact day.I dunno if she was someone to appear when the main Mimi is sick or something(dunno this word in english) but I am pretty sure this is an extract from that video...someone could help me??
PS Haven't seen many Rogers, but this is the BEST,very touching, just perfect!
@griffnuts@matthewballen hey guys, I remember both of you, and wanted to say thanks for the kind words and good memories, apart from the guitar incident (Which I know wasn't you griffnuts). I'll take you up on the beers though. I happened to be showing a friend this old ass video so they believed I used to be young and thin and handsome and noticed both your comments and made me smile. Anyway, I'm bumming around Thailand now feel free to drop in anytime.Cary
So yeah, a few beers later while playing his guitar (which someone then broke at the neck, was gutting) I admitted my embelishment and we whiled away the hours talking MT and attempting to prank call Kristen Chenoworth. So yeah, I still owe this guy a few beers, and someone there that night owes him a guitar (promise it wasnt me that broke it!). If i'd known then what i know now I feel i would have appreciated it a lot more! Yeah, and thats completely true :)
@griffnuts I had a similar experience with Cary. I went on a Spring Break trip to Interlaken, Switzerland and he was playing with this small band at this really tiny bar. We were both from America so we began chatting and he was telling me all about how he got into RENT and the experiences he had. The group I was with ended up going back to the bar for the next few nights and we kept on chatting with him. Really nice guy, great musician and completely down to earth.
I'm a jobbing semi pro actor based in the UK. Back in 2003 I was travelling around Europe (with not a lot of previous 'Rent' knowledge) and in a hostel in Budapest, myself and my friend challenged a couple of americans to a game of pool. I got talking to this guy and he asked me what I did and I embelished (who doesn't when they're on holiday) and said that I was a pro actor on the West End. ANyway this guy then made me go cold by saying "Hey I do that to, names Cary,.."
I prefer Adam's Roger better...I don't mind Cary but the part of Roger isn't supposed to sound like classical style musical theatre. It's supposed to be more raw, and while I appreciate the effort somethings just not working for me here...sorry everyone.
@musicandsolace That's exactly why I love Cary's though! I actually don't like many Glorys because the Rogers often sound too polished or Broadway or soft. Adam has that rough growl for sure, but there is some indescribable edge in Cary's voice, IMO, that makes you sit up and notice... it's smooth for sure, but there's rock'n'roll, untouched roughness in there as well... just a much more boyish quality than Pascal.
One of the best versions I've seen. The thing that sets Adam Pascal apart from Cary is the fact that Cary is more traditional musical theatre style in his singing than Adam, who sounds more rock-ish. Cary is amazing and his acting that accompanies this version is great, but Adam of course fits the part he created better.
I think that this performance has a lot of power but not much emotion. He has a good voice, he should just use it better. Like Will Chase. Best Roger EVER.
It is not blocking. The song is about his virus. The running across the stage and then the sudden stop is representative of the need to escape something that you can't.
Cary is Great... Someone said he's Canadian... TRUE? My favorite Roger is also Canadian... Kevin Spencer. That guy kicked some serious ass live. What is it with these Canadian Rogers??? Do they put something in the water up there? LOL
Im 90% sure Cary is Canadian. Anyone else??? I never got to see Kevin live but i just checked some of his vids on here from RENT and i am stunned at how good his voice is. The Real Deal. NoDaYbutToday
I would say it's possible, but I saw the tour when it came to DC specifically because it's touring with Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp....so I can tell you that he's not touring with them.
i know but he was touring with them as the understudy to Adam ... he stopped the tour in LA.. that was his last stop.. so i know he isnt but he was ... that is all
Cary filled in for a bit on the tour because of Joshua Kobak's injury. When Joshua was ready to join the tour, Cary left. He is an excellent Roger but he had issues when he was with the Broadway production that made it surprising to many that they asked him to join the tour. When he was with the Canadian cast, years ago, he was probably the best actor vocally to ever play the role, including Adam.
mkolstee, Cary left the tour several months ago. When Joshua Kobak returned, Cary left. He was only filling in while Joshua recovered from shoulder surgery.
I did not say that Cary was still in the show. I said that it was still playing on tour. This comment was in response to a poster that snarkily commented that "It's kinda hard to be with a show that isn't playing anymore..."
Quite frankly, I am in NYC and pay very little attention to exactly which actors are in touring productions at any particular moment. I mean no disrespect to actors in touring shows; I simply do not see touring productions, so it is of little relevance to me.
omg...he has to be one of my favorite Rogers :] ♥ I saw Heinz when I saw RENT and loved him as well. Of course Adam is up there with my favorite's as well, but Cary is just as good :]
Aww, this guy's so awesome! I, also, went to the Detroit shows on Friday & Saturday and was also disappointed that Adam wasn't there. On Saturday, I sat in the front row and at the end of the show - he was just hanging out by the exit. I got to hug him!
yes, thats very exciting. I was happy just to see the play once sense it was my first time, i'm really glad I got to see it performed by such a good cast.
Oh is that what was wrong? That really sucks, but I'm glad he'll be okay, all the ushers told us was that he was out sick. I also agree Cary just blew me away and as cool as it would have been to see Adam, I prefer Carys version of Roger now. I absolutely loved Light my Candle as well as Glory and Goodbye love. It was just all around spectacular.
Adam had a herniated disk, and will be back to do the show in the next city. I personally love Cary more than Adam. I saw this three times (front row each time) in Detroit, and he was amazing every single time. I love his Light My Candle.
I also just got back from the show in Detroit (the 7:30 one). The ushers were saying that Adam was to sick to come. I was very dissapointed at first but I think Cary was an AMAZING replacement!!
I saw Cary as Roger last night and got to meet him after the show and he was the nicest guy ever and signed autographs and took a ton of pictures, he was spectacular in Rent onstage as well =]
I didn't see Cary as Roger when I saw the tour, but a friend of mine saw him as Roger in Newark last week (not sure why Adam was out) but she was impressed with Cary. Of course everyone wants to see Adam protray Roger, but things happen and its why there are under-study's.
He's not Adam, but he's still great. Awesome voice and adorable. He's really animated, too in his acting. He reminds me of someone, but I can't place it.
Yeah, i'm going to see RENT in Detroit on sunday and was so sad when I heard Adam wasn't going to be there :-[ But he seems to be okay too. I'm just sad I wont see Adam. I love RENT!!!!!!
Adam's going to be out on medical leave when I see the tour in Detroit this weekend :( So we'll be seeing Cary. I'm bummed because I was dying to see Adam again.
he had a herniated disc and was on medical release. i went on thursday and was so sad about missing adam that i was planning on going to chicago to see it, and then my friend went on saturday and said adam was there!!! i was so mad!! i would've bought a ticket for saturday had i known =[
he came down to our school last year to do a show with us and he's probably coming down again this year. he's so nice. he'll talk to anyone and everyone no matter who you are.
