...turned 65 the other night...had some real "cracklin' rose" with an excellent steak and my wife of some bazillion years. Some things just can't be put into words.
Saw Neil in the 70's, 80's, 90's, and then in Nashville in '01 the November after 9/11--the man just keeps getting better and better. I don't think that anyone has ever been more of a man born to be a performer than Neil. Not a bad songwriter either, you know.
Saw his last 2 shows in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I'm now 38 years old, was sitting beside my mom with my nephew who was 9 at the time. This music is for every generation. No matter who I speak to, if music preference is questioned, I always state that, in my eyes, Neil Diamond has no equal. I love Metallica, Eminem, ABBA. But Mr. Diamond always strikes that chord in me. It doesn't get better than this!
Cracklin' Rose was a cheap rose' wine bought by Native Canadians who would go into town to pick up women. Those that struck out rode the train back with a store bought
woman. Neil explained this in concert once. Great song writing.
I think he is going in the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame. About time. He is old school, writes and records his own songs. At his age who would not want woman screaming at you.
i saw him in Cincinnati twice......when he sang "You Don't Bring Me Flowers", I kept running up toward the stage to give him this artificial white carnation......
the security guards kept ushering me back to my seat...
I was so caught up in the moment like a wild fan....but it
was fun.....anyway, somebody must have gotten my fake flower back to Neil, because a few weeks later I got a very nice letter of thanks in the mail and I said to myself, "Now this man is all class !!!!!!!!"
Oh my GAWD(sorry god!), my sister (MOLLYryaiMOON) loves Neil Diamond soo much, she could marry this man! And Neil will be 69 this year, and my sister will be still in love with this withered (Handsome, as sister says) man. She'll mourn with all her body when he goes into the ground..(Nevermind that contradictive comment, person who made this!)
It is scary how much women dig this guy. I mentioned this special and a woman I know who's 50 went: "Ohhh. Neil Diamond". Lol. All ages like him though. It's just funny. He's like some kind of superhero of romance. haha.
There are only a few entertainers who continue to touch multiple generations of listeners. His music is timeless. When people have long forgotten about most artists you hear today, people will always remember Neil Diamond.
Cracklin' Rosie has delighted me since I first saw Neil at the Palladium in the 70's. I look forward to playing this DVD and time will fly backwards for me!
He sounds and looks great! Far from the embarassing, desperate nostalgia trips some established stars go on these days, this simply looks like a Neil Diamond concert, except it is now 2009.
Classic professional superstar. He really gets all the emotion possible out of a song. Loved the special. Such a surprise. Glad I caught it from the beginning.

Just as a point of reference, this guy was 68 when taping this show. He will turn 70 in January 2011. Simply put: amazing performer and timeless.

The man's voice still sounds amazing. I saw him in 2001 and it was one of the top 2 concerts I have ever been to(the other being Paul McCartney).

Neil recently said this song was about Caroline Kennedy. I always thought is was about a bottle of cheap wine i.e. "Store bought woman". Hmmm...

@konedog54
Neil made that comment about Sweet Caroline, not Cracklin Rose. :)

Is this a Girlie song ? Just that most people in the audience seem to be Women I'm guessing that most of Neil's followers are women ?
