Also guys, just to point out - John isn't weaning Sherlock off of cigarettes. Well he is, in addition, but more importantly he's getting him off of cocaine. At some point Sherlock says that he needs something "stronger than tea. 7% stronger..." If you're familiar with the canon, Sherlock had a habit of injecting a seven-per-cent solution of cocaine.

Yes!!! I loved that. Such great continuity over the whole season arc. Sherlock wouldn't beg Irene, but then she did beg him at the end of the last episode by saying 'please'. Next episode, Sherlock says it twice. To JOHN. My little fangirl heart is so happy :)

@najhoat I don't know much, though I am in the middle of a study on the character 'Sherlock' with great help from this fantastic show, but my theory would be he can't think clearly when he's in a panic, notice how he’s nev affected by emotions when others are? I think it's because he's not concentrating that he can't find them. that and whatev he's looking for I’m sure Watson hasn't hidden in their apartment. just my guess tho

The fact that the skull where they were hidden in the first episode was referenced as his 'old freind' as well as the thing he spent most of his time talking to is a genius interpretation of their relationship:

Sherlock no longer relies on the skull that once made up his main friend, companion, and social interaction.

But now that he has John he doesn't think about the skull once.

The writers are genius at the little things that make the big things a thousand times better.

@najhoant i think it's just subtle stuff about their relationship. remember how he didn't really know that the earth spun around the sun? this sherlock says he deletes things that are useless– the fact that it turned out to be in his dear skull, "a friend of mine", shows just that he's got a real friend now, & consequently has forgotten about the skull. And john knows him well enough to get that– it's nothing genius what they notice but that's exactly why it works

@40019974 Sherlock Holmes, in canon, is already into drugs. He's a regular cocaine user in the novels - he finds it stimulating and clarifying to his mind when he doesn't have any cases to occupy him. At the time cocaine was legal but Watson had concerns about how it would affect his brain. There's also mention of morphine use - also legal at the time. Nowadays that cocaine is not legal, he obviously can't be a regular user, so the writers drop in indications that he's used drugs before.

@40019974 The hints are that he's _already been on it_. Maybe not cocaine but hard drugs of some kind. See A Study in Pink for the following dialogue: "This is a drugs bust!" "I am clean" "Yes, but is your flat?" Note Sherlock's concerned look. "Oh, come on, this guy? A junkie?" from John, and Sherlock, "John you'd better shut up now." Also note Mrs. Hudson's statement "the usual hiding places" in Scandal. The implication isn't that he's going to start drugs, it's that he's _been_ on them.
