  • This would not have worked on people on the subway in New York.

  • next time put the volum upp

  • Trains of Tort

  • young men are such power hungry warriors-no caring what the long term effects are- depress-suicide-they use this to rape women/& kids- avoid most men from your territory

  • wow how agressive are students and researchers- so exploiting even as a teaching "aid-they cd use a of class of consenting adult men -women will be feared of refusing -dont touch me-how can these pple live themselves0young students head full of power-tripping-knowing their age will give them protection from consequences

  • Unlike tony robbins, Derren knows and understands exactly and precisely what he's doing with these extremely advanced stacked anchoring technique + embedded commands.

  • Well one thing to remember about tv, is that though the mind tricks any magician or mentalist / street hypnotist performs don't always work every time on everyone or even the same person repeatedly. Magicians don't show their failed attempts, though that doesn't mean it never works. I've done quite a few NLP / conversational hypnosis based mentalism tricks myself, for me they usually work w/ no stooges, set up or gimmicks but I sure as heck wouldn't post a series of failures up when it flops.

  • You said the "yes" anchor was important. But Derren never reuses that association afterwards, it appears...

  • Awesome!! Thank you for taking your time to explain this.

  • Some of NLP works to some degree. But alot of it is total bullshit. But the stuff that works is actually simple psychology. And let me tell you this.... the clip is fake.

  • No, that's completely untrue. Go learn something before you speak nonsense on a topic about which you know nothing.

  • this video made me truly appreciate derren. somthing clicked in my mind that was like he uses soooo many different cues and anchors and specifics that it cant be faked. truly a gifted geneus

  • Around 3:37 here, Derren pauses between "trains...of thought" (how easily trains...of thought become confused). he anchors "trains" to a gesture he makes with his left hand...then uses both hands in a "movement away" gesture to which he anchors the word "thought." Thus, he puts "thought" apart from "train"--in his tone of voice, in his gestures...and in his conversation-partner's mind.

  • I can't see any references to the classic "STOP" embedded command he repeatedly use in a phonological ambiguity: "what STOP are you...". But it seems important.

  • he didnt use it on this man

but i havent watched the next video though

  • id love to see you analyze derren browns video where he uses the swiss pattern to manipulate the large women into thinking her car is black

  • What is a "swiss pattern"?

  • i meant swish pattern.. and he did actually do a video explaining the one i was talking about

  • I've commented on this before and sent fanmail directiy to the site. But must say again, this is an impeccably beautiful and informative dissection and analysis of this routine with NLP explanations, anchors and hypnosis! and EAC.

  • Wow, fareplay! Did you study NLP? That's really insightful...I've just had one of those really long conversations with a loada people from Dreams, to Ghosts, and it ended up with us all crowded around a screen watching Derren Brown...Now i'm in bed, trying to look for some reason...haha, QUALITY video! :D

  • Trains of Taught.

  • r u irish? if u r then u r AWESOME!!!

  • its not that simple if it is go do it ,. uhh i dotn want to

  • Very good explanation! I already understood how this worked but there were a few points that I was unaware of, for example the eye accessing cues at the start!! I'm gonna subscribe now!

  • Thanks for the video! its hard to find good explanations of Derren's tricks.

  • oh yeah, one request/suggestion...anyway to do this awesome cut-up, choppy intermittent narration, intermittent film clip and THEN do a full, unbroken run of the clip.

  • that was so cool; so rogue hehe.

  • haha!! woah. this narrator is a friend; that darrin guys is friend. haha! FINALLY some good cutting edge videos (enough with the books already!) bringing nlp out of the box. sweet!!

  • nicee vidoe thanks 5+

  • could you learn how to master the volume on your videos. i find nlp extremely interesting but the difference in volume between your intro , then the train , then when you paused it to explain i couldnt watch any longer as i struggled to hear you

  • Derren talks a lot about this in his book tricks of the mind.

  • yh ive got that

  • now explain the staring competition

  • Great video! Thanks a lot!

  • wow, as a psychology student, i found that fascinating. derren brown has previously denied using NLP techniques, but having watched this video, i think he may be fibbing... About to watch the 2nd video now! excellent video!

  • surprisingly when i mention NLP to psych students they don't believe its power. I find that ridiculous and has really turned me off as far as my experience with psychology courses in college. But that's just my experience.

  • Derren often states he dislikes the term NLP and the way Richard B is going about it. He also says that he himself never claimed to use NLP. Bear in Mind that NLP is a Name that "allows Richard to do whatever the hell he wanted". Derren is a great showman and you can be certain that there was even more to that then just what people call NLP. (Such as nonverb. communication before approaching).

Derren never denied using NLP afaik. He just said he'd never said he uses NLP ;-)

  • Alright...... What are we going for? I'm a little confused as to the relevance of the comment. Haha! Are you just saying that because I used "NLP" in there? lol.

  • I wanted to comment on 88clazzy88s statement that derren denies using nlp and what i think could be that cause for his dislike of the term nlp. My comment had no relation to your also very intersting statement.

  • cool... Would you like to discuss my comment? I love talking about this stuff.

  • My thought on that is that people often ignore what does not fit into their map of reality, because it is easier to ignore something than to alter your reality. (For NLP proves the ordinary Psychology pretty useless).

  • Yeah I agree. I think that psychology has some points that are important to pay attention to though. But most of that is common sense and clear communication. One thing is that people can't make you feel anything. Well that's not true. They can't FORCE you to. But they certainly influence how we feel as humans. So to say that you're in TOTAL control all the time EVEN without knowing how to be, is pretty maddening. I say that's why a lot of people are frustrated with therapy etc.

  • Nice one, but the contrast between the volume of the original audio with your audio is too big.

  • GREAT VIDEO, MAN, YOU SHOULD BE PROUD! You've micro-dynamically explained so much, further resources for my NLP aresnal, great work and thanks for posting!

  • Oh My Gosh! In the past I have amazed myself at how bad of a memory I had about really simple things that I know I should have known...like what I did the day before. Derren Brown's technique has shown me how I can correct my memory!!! Thank you immensely for your video!!! *MWAH!* =)

  • D.Brown more often hypnotised his subjects before any presentation. He could have easily hypnotised this man seconds earlier to forget his stop and forget he ever met Derren. If this is so it debunks almost all of the NLP explanation.

  • Bruce, tks for your comment. Indeed he could have set this up before hand but unlikely. Darren is a showman & skilled at what he does. From what I've observed he appears to live off the edge of seeing how far he can push things. He did use hypnotic language and the guy was in a trance. However a skilled hypnotist generally would not need to do it before hand, they could do it in real time. This type of effect is not an either or technique. Darren employs many techniques. NLP & Hypnosis + others!

  • thanks for your vids, very interesting :)

  • First of all i like your vids.

But i still have a few question, you said he anchored the first man by touching him near his wrist, but how is it possible to do that? how can you do that so quickly?

And at what moment does derren ''wave'' the man's memory away? is it at the moment that he is thinking and his eyes move?

    thanks a lot!

  • Hi Mduit92,

Anchoring can happen in a flash. Your body is regularly making new associations that result in specific response being triggered when you the same stimuli happen again. Think about any relationship you've been in and chances are you'll know there are specific things your partner did that would trigger both positive and negative response from your almost instantaneously.

    Hope that helps.

    Tom

  • The example of Darren touching the guy on the wrist would be an example of a kinestetic anchor .. if it was associated up with a specific response in the guys nevrous system which could be a feeling or a thought such as "Yes"/compliance.

Just so you know not every tactile touch is automatically an "anchor".

  • Interesting... this MAY be how Derren is doing this! He doesn't always use NLP, however, he is a master of presentation!

  • nice vid, sound getting quite an loud is annoying but nice vid cheers

  • The audio could be a bit louder.

  • FWIW, there are also 2 non NLP techniques used in this video to achieve this effect. Can you spot them?

  • Thank you very much. I think it's funny how people believe what Derren says when he explains how he does a trick.

  • Brilliant explanation, thank you very much.

  • very good explanation - i did the paul mckenna and richard bandler nlp course and i can relate to this. more please
