My computer has such a hard time with this game and I have a 9800gt. Im playing the game and the framedrop and lag is unbareable. I even have this at really low setting too. I honestly think that this game needs a higher graphics card then the minimum they wrote on the back of their game box. I feel so lied too. I have a crappy internet connection, but it still can run other online games. It really sucks because I didn't have this many problems with bc2 and I play this with my clan.

Actually there is an FPS lag that can be temporarily fixed by switching and switching back your resolution. Also, you look like a fish. But thanks for the effort.

Older technology seems to not work well with this game, although the core 2 quads and the 4870 can play heaps of todays games well BF3 seems to dislike them.
My problem has nothing to do with the fps. But the skips. My specs SLI gtx550 1gb. 4gb ddr2. Q9650@3GHZ. I can run BBC2 fine with no stuttering on highest. And I run this game around 50-70 on low-ultra. It doesn't matter the settings. But every 10-20 seconds it freezes up. I have an extra 2gb of ram but I don't want to take the time to install 64bit. And I'm not sure that would be the problem. I really would like a solution and not feel like I just wasted $60. Thanks.

Have a GTX 506TI and a Phenom 2 x4 with a mix of high and ultra and get random stuttering and lag online. I have consistently high FPS even when the issues occur so Im assuming it's the servers. Even in a low ping server it still happens. Some servers seem to work fine but most are shit.
@Neep95 You seem to have settings similar to my wife, except she has 6970's crossfire watercooled everything bla bla. We had erratic running lag and game crashing tried absoloutly everything including clean win 7 64bit install with only BF3 running.
Turned out it was our Digital download that was corrupted!!
Re-downloaded it and wow everything perfect. Hope this may help someone.
I've tried all that and my latency/ping is about 30-40. My settings are at Medium/High wich i think ma computer should handle. Well i maby should try to add 4gb more ram or so. Thank you for the help :)
@Darkness694@MrGamesOfficial You are wrong, i got the same spec exept i got Phenom X4 965 processor and i can play the game on Ultra Setup and i dont have any lags on large battles. my screen usually is 1920x1080 and i get 45 fps.
To make it not Lag, clean your pc from dust, all those heatsinks, defrag the pc and clean your pc with Advanced system care.
@TheRVBlitz can't do anything about that. Have you tried playing on a server with lower ping/latency, that sounds like it may be the problem. Usually these servers are local to your country/region
Mine lags heavily it's impossible to play the game.. it like freezes for a couple of seconds, runs normal for a couple of seconds then freezes again etc.. i tried reducing the video settings from ultra high to low but it still lags..

@shadysebaai That's very weird. It may actually be the power supply even though a well constructed, good quality 500w-550w PSU should justbe able to run that card.
All your components are good enough to at least run on high settings let alone low.
I'm assuming it runs absolutely fine for a couple of second, then stops for a moment then starts again? this means that something seems to be hitting a wall / being limited
try getting new graphics drivers and re installing the game or even Windows

@MegaPontagon try looking at the 6870(probably medium high settings) or even the 6950 (probably high settings)if you are strapped for cash check out the 6850(probably medium settings) which is also not a bad card

@warta312 the 9800gt is a refined version of the 8800gt which was released in late 2007-2008. the 8800gt is the minimum requirement to run the game.
the 9800gt is only intended to run bf3 at low settings on low resolution. I've tried a 9600gt at it only just could not play the game so you should be fine on that resolution.
@MrGamesOfficial I have less a system than him and i play fine on medium @ 1920x1080 so he should run better than me on low... but one for him to consider is if he is playing at a high enough resolution disable AA at HD res AA makes no noticable difference in what you see but a massive increase in performance.

@MrGamesOfficial Hey, I think have resolved the issue, after checking the forums. My GPU only has 1GB of VRAM and I tried to force it on ultra maxed out settings. This is not advisable because doing so requires around 1.5GB of VRAM, which causes stuttering. I switched mine to just high quality and the stuttering is completely gone. It's a VRAM issue. To run BF3 at ultra, only 2GB cards like the 6950 or GTX570 can do so. 2xGPU setups like 5870x2 do not work because the 1GBx2 VRAM do not compile.
@creamie123 In short, even if you are running supposedly 'high-end' crossfire or SLI setups like 5870 1GB x2, 6870 1GB x2 or GTX470 1.25GB SLIx2, the problem is not how fast your GPU is, rather, it is how much VRAM it has. A single GPU with 2GB of RAM will run without stuttering, what a faster dual GPU setup with 1GB of shared VRAM cannot. The VRAM on dual GPU setups do not stack.
@creamie123 And finally, my research also indicates that more physical RAM actually does help in avoiding stutters at ultra settings. To run it smooth, you need not 4GB or 6GB of RAM, but around 8GB. I have not yet checked the mutual exclusivity of physical RAM and VRAM for avoiding stuttering issues, but suffice to say, the 'recommended' 4GB of physical RAM has misinformed.
@NicoooxD try playing on a low latency/ping server if you have not already. also update your ati graphics drivers for your hd5870 from the ati driver dowload page
When i run Bf3 on auto graphics settings (which is High), I still get wierd problems. The games framerate slows down sometimes to a very low degree, and soldiers dissapepars/reappears out of thin air, which is sometimes accompanied by rapid green flashes. And sometimes when i spawn my gun i missing, then it appears later. Also the sound sometimes tend to exclude certain sound effects only. I have the latest driver

I ran the BF3 campaign with 4GB DDR2 ram, Q6600 2.4 ghz, and an nvidia 210. But I did swap my 300w power supply and 210 for a 600w corsair and a gigabyte 6850 that easily maxes the campaign and co-op. It has two fans and heat pipes, so the max temp has only been 82 C. I started multiplayer probably a day before the EU release, and on the next day, I saw some server lag, and it progressed, and now I can hardly do anything except stinger or mortar.
I've been getting crazy lag in Multiplayer. Stuttering, freezing, crashing, and framerate drops occur all the time. I can't even play vehicles because I know I will crash them or destroy them. I have a Geforce 450, 2gb of ram, and a 4 core 3ghz processor. This is ridiculous, it even stutters like crazy on the lowest settings. Singleplayer runs on ultra completely smooth. And no it's not mine or the server's connection speed
@uzumakinaruto246 I got the same issues, I lag at 69 ping and I have excellent graphics. It can easily play BF3 on High/Ultra graphics, but for some reason I still got horrible lag. Using an AMD X4 Quad-core processor, Nvidia GTX 460 1GB, 8 GB RAM, and a HD sound card, Windows 7-64 bit. The game feels so broken it is unplayable. :(

@MrGamesOfficial That's bullshit. I have the same performance issue (runs smooth in Singleplayer but stutters in Multiplayer) and I have 8GB ram. My GPU is an Asus 5850 DirectCU 1GB and my CPU is an AMD X3 450 (triple core) @3,5ghz

my game lags on win7 x64 with my radeon 6850.. but the wierd thing is.. when the camera is in spectator mode it runs so nice and smooth but as soon as i go first person after i respawn it laggs.
@digitaldeath124 Yeah i am even monitoring my cpu, memory, and graphics use and none of them are coming close to maxing out. I even downgraded the graphics settings to medium, and I still get the lag but my resource use is very low. Let me know if you find anything else out and I will do likewise

What do we AMD users do? any help, i'm having lag spikes as hell, i'm running it on medium tho, but turning it down to low doesnt make it better nor worse. Please any help, i think i should run it OK on medium since it set it self to high with the auto settings. My specs are,

Have a GTX 506TI and a Phenom 2 x4 with a mix of high and ultra and get random stuttering and lag online. I have consistently high FPS even when the issues occur so Im assuming it's the servers. Even in a low ping server it still happens. Some servers seem to work fine but most are shit.

@Neep95 You seem to have settings similar to my wife, except she has 6970's crossfire watercooled everything bla bla. We had erratic running lag and game crashing tried absoloutly everything including clean win 7 64bit install with only BF3 running.
Turned out it was our Digital download that was corrupted!!
Re-downloaded it and wow everything perfect. Hope this may help someone.

that's weird.
some of these suggestions may sound a little dumb but
- Try updating the graphics drivers if you have not done so already from the nvidia drivers page
- put the graphics settings down.
- what is your ping/latency on the servers? high ping will cause lag
- stop all background applications
- de fragment your hard drive
If that fails, try re install the game or if desperate re format your PC but that is a last resort

I've tried all that and my latency/ping is about 30-40. My settings are at Medium/High wich i think ma computer should handle. Well i maby should try to add 4gb more ram or so. Thank you for the help :)

@Darkness694 @MrGamesOfficial You are wrong, i got the same spec exept i got Phenom X4 965 processor and i can play the game on Ultra Setup and i dont have any lags on large battles. my screen usually is 1920x1080 and i get 45 fps.
To make it not Lag, clean your pc from dust, all those heatsinks, defrag the pc and clean your pc with Advanced system care.

@TheRVBlitz can't do anything about that. Have you tried playing on a server with lower ping/latency, that sounds like it may be the problem. Usually these servers are local to your country/region

Mine lags heavily it's impossible to play the game.. it like freezes for a couple of seconds, runs normal for a couple of seconds then freezes again etc.. i tried reducing the video settings from ultra high to low but it still lags..

@shadysebaai That's very weird. It may actually be the power supply even though a well constructed, good quality 500w-550w PSU should justbe able to run that card.
All your components are good enough to at least run on high settings let alone low.
I'm assuming it runs absolutely fine for a couple of second, then stops for a moment then starts again? this means that something seems to be hitting a wall / being limited
try getting new graphics drivers and re installing the game or even Windows

Your system is more likely not good enough to run the game. The phenom x2 is only a dual core which struggle on BF3 and the 5670 is a low powered card
Try downloading the latest graphics drivers from ati for your 5670 and putting all the graphics settings including resolution down in BF3

you have two realistic options:
- put your settings down

@warta312 the 9800gt is a refined version of the 8800gt which was released in late 2007-2008. the 8800gt is the minimum requirement to run the game.
the 9800gt is only intended to run bf3 at low settings on low resolution. I've tried a 9600gt at it only just could not play the game so you should be fine on that resolution.

@MrGamesOfficial I have less a system than him and i play fine on medium @ 1920x1080 so he should run better than me on low... but one for him to consider is if he is playing at a high enough resolution disable AA at HD res AA makes no noticable difference in what you see but a massive increase in performance.

@MrGamesOfficial Hey, I think have resolved the issue, after checking the forums. My GPU only has 1GB of VRAM and I tried to force it on ultra maxed out settings. This is not advisable because doing so requires around 1.5GB of VRAM, which causes stuttering. I switched mine to just high quality and the stuttering is completely gone. It's a VRAM issue. To run BF3 at ultra, only 2GB cards like the 6950 or GTX570 can do so. 2xGPU setups like 5870x2 do not work because the 1GBx2 VRAM do not compile.

@creamie123 In short, even if you are running supposedly 'high-end' crossfire or SLI setups like 5870 1GB x2, 6870 1GB x2 or GTX470 1.25GB SLIx2, the problem is not how fast your GPU is, rather, it is how much VRAM it has. A single GPU with 2GB of RAM will run without stuttering, what a faster dual GPU setup with 1GB of shared VRAM cannot. The VRAM on dual GPU setups do not stack.

@creamie123 And finally, my research also indicates that more physical RAM actually does help in avoiding stutters at ultra settings. To run it smooth, you need not 4GB or 6GB of RAM, but around 8GB. I have not yet checked the mutual exclusivity of physical RAM and VRAM for avoiding stuttering issues, but suffice to say, the 'recommended' 4GB of physical RAM has misinformed.

When i run Bf3 on auto graphics settings (which is High), I still get wierd problems. The games framerate slows down sometimes to a very low degree, and soldiers dissapepars/reappears out of thin air, which is sometimes accompanied by rapid green flashes. And sometimes when i spawn my gun i missing, then it appears later. Also the sound sometimes tend to exclude certain sound effects only. I have the latest driver

seems to be somthing to do with servers for online play, some times it runs smooth on ultra and than day later laggy stuttering sound and so one, so iwe try all posibilities fast 2 weeks working on perfect settings but the damn game is just not runing constantly same its damn damn, so for now i found a solution that works INSTALL SOME PROGRAM FOR RAM BOOSTING TO FREE UP YOUR RAM ALWAYS WHAN YOU PLAY,,,,

I ran the BF3 campaign with 4GB DDR2 ram, Q6600 2.4 ghz, and an nvidia 210. But I did swap my 300w power supply and 210 for a 600w corsair and a gigabyte 6850 that easily maxes the campaign and co-op. It has two fans and heat pipes, so the max temp has only been 82 C. I started multiplayer probably a day before the EU release, and on the next day, I saw some server lag, and it progressed, and now I can hardly do anything except stinger or mortar.

I've been getting crazy lag in Multiplayer. Stuttering, freezing, crashing, and framerate drops occur all the time. I can't even play vehicles because I know I will crash them or destroy them. I have a Geforce 450, 2gb of ram, and a 4 core 3ghz processor. This is ridiculous, it even stutters like crazy on the lowest settings. Singleplayer runs on ultra completely smooth. And no it's not mine or the server's connection speed

@uzumakinaruto246 I got the same issues, I lag at 69 ping and I have excellent graphics. It can easily play BF3 on High/Ultra graphics, but for some reason I still got horrible lag. Using an AMD X4 Quad-core processor, Nvidia GTX 460 1GB, 8 GB RAM, and a HD sound card, Windows 7-64 bit. The game feels so broken it is unplayable. :(

@MrGamesOfficial That's bullshit. I have the same performance issue (runs smooth in Singleplayer but stutters in Multiplayer) and I have 8GB ram. My GPU is an Asus 5850 DirectCU 1GB and my CPU is an AMD X3 450 (triple core) @3,5ghz

@digitaldeath124 Yeah i am even monitoring my cpu, memory, and graphics use and none of them are coming close to maxing out. I even downgraded the graphics settings to medium, and I still get the lag but my resource use is very low. Let me know if you find anything else out and I will do likewise
