The software shown on screen is Ableton Live which works on both Mac and PC - the only question that's left is if the plugin runs on Windows or Mac ;).
The record is so-called "timecode vinyl"; it contains a signal that the computer can synchronize to.
I think a lot of people who want to learn the art of turntablism get discouraged because you need to learn so many skills for both hands at once. This appears to take the "awareness of timing" aspects out so you can focus on working on your cross fader skills and more artistic improvisation skills without needing the precision platter control you would otherwise if using actual sample records, yeah? Way cool. Anything that lets people get more enjoyment out of their music is awesome. :)
hi steve, if i understand the vid correctly, you'll still need all the traditional scratching skills. What this plug brings is the ability to dynamically alter the material you're scratching with without having to cut your own dubplates, which isn't practical in front of an audience ;)
It should be noted that while you could cut and paste all your samples into an wav as with traditional vinyl DJ solutions, ammobox allows layering and time staggering as well as triggering quantized to beat, this results in many effects that would be impossible without multiple people scratching pre-made wav files simultaneously.
But I agree with steve's assessment as well, a useful side effect of ammobox is that it is quite easy to use. Technology should be transparent.
Indeed!

It runs in Reaktor (so Mac and PC, but you need to have Reaktor) and it seems to be available now. Check out the other videos for more info.
